Effect of Long-Term Fertilization on Organic Carbon and Nitrogen in a Subtropical Paddy Soil

A long-term experiment beginning in 1981 in Jinxian County of Jiangxi Province, subtropical china, was conducted in a paddy field under a double rice cropping system with four different fertilization regimes, including 1) no fertilizer as control (CK), 2) balanced chemical N, P, and K fertilizers (NPK), 3) organic manure using milk vetch and pig manure in the early and late rice growing season, respectively (OM), and 4) balanced chemical fertilizers combined with organic manure (NPKM). Samples (0-17 cm) of the paddy field soil, which was derived from Quaternary red clay, were collected after the late rice harvest in November 2003 for determination of total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) and fractions of organic C and N. Results showed that TOC and TN in the NPKM and OM treatments were significantly higher than those in other two treatments (CK and NPK). Application of organic manure with or without chemical fertilizers significantly increased the contents of all fractions of organic C and N, whereas chemical fertilizer application only increased the contents of occluded particulate organic C (oPOC) and amino acid N. In addition, application of organic manure significantly enhanced the proportions of free particulate organic carbon (fPOC) and oPOC in total C, and those of amino sugar N and amino acid N (P < 0.01) in total N. In contrast, chemical fertilizer application only increased the proportions of oPOC and amino acid N (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in either contents or proportions of soil organic C and organic N fractions between the NPKM and OM treatments. These indicated that organic manure application with or without chemical fertilizers played the most significant role in enhancing soil organic C and N quantity and quality in the paddy field studied.

＜正＞Endophytic fungi-grass symbiotum base on either endophyte can synthesize or induce the host plant to produce various kinds of secondary metabolites（De Battista ＆ Bacon 1990）. These secondary metabolites,such as alkaloids and plant hormones usually benefit to plant survival,growth and *** detected IAA concentrations of culture filtrates,cell free macerates of Neotyphodium sincium EHA-1 by ELISA and HPLC,and report here that indole-3-acetic acid（IAA） accumulation in culture *** EHA-1 synthesizing IAA even no tryptophan（Trp）,precursor of IAA was added exogenously into the culture（Ji 2002）. These indicated this isolate can produce plant hormone de *** Trp presence conditions, highest concentration of 47.08 mg/g dry mycelium was recorded in IAA production *** IAA was extracted from aerial tissue of Roegneria kamoji EI and EF plants and analyzed by HPLC,higher concentration of IAA was detected in EI plants comparing with that of EF plants. This phenomenon was recognized on plants in period of heading stage and flowering stage *** suggested that IAA biosynthesis in fungal cells may have a certain contribution in total IAA level within Chinese Roegneria-Neotyphodium symbiotum.

Distribution and Migration of Heavy Metals in Undisturbed Forest Soils:A High Resolution Sampling Method

The vertical distribution and migration of Cu,Zn,Pb,and Cd in two forest soil profiles near an industrial emission source were investigated using a high resolution sampling method together with reference element ***-meter soil profile was sectioned horizontally at 2 cm intervals in the first 40 cm,5 cm intervals in the next 40 cm,and 10 cm intervals in the last 20 *** migration distance and rate of heavy metals in the soil profiles were calculated according to their relative concentrations in the profiles,as calibrated by the reference element *** enrichment of heavy metals appeared in the uppermost layer of the forest soil,and the soil heavy metal concentrations decreased down the profile until reaching their background *** calculated average migration rates of Cd,Cu,Pb,and Zn were 0.70,0.33,0.37,and 0.76 cm year-1,respectively,which were comparable to other methods.A simulation model was proposed,which could well describe the distribution of Cu,Zn,Pb,and Cd in natural forest soils.

In order to ascertain the invasive mechanism and control strategy of the invasive Crofton weed, Ageratina adenophora, its ecological adaptability and population differentiation,the formation of single dominant population, displacement of native plants and sustainable management strategies were investigated. The present results helped to clarify and explain such issues as the adaptability post invasion,interaction and competition between inter-and intra-species and community resistance, thereby providing important references to researches on other invasive alien species.

Calcium, an ubiquitous second messenger, plays an essential and versatile role in cellular signaling. The diverse function of calcium signals is achieved by an excess of calcium sensors. Plants possess large numbers of calcium sensors, most of which have not been functionally characterized. To identify physiologically relevant calcium sensors in a specific cell type, we conducted a genome-wide functional survey in pollen tubes, for which spatiotemporal calcium signals are well-characterized and required for polarized tip growth. *** members of calrnodulin （CAM）, CaM-like （CML）, calcium-dependent protein kinase （CDPK） and calcineurin B-like protein （CBL） families were tagged with green fluorescence protein （GFP） and their localization patterns and overexpression phenotypes were characterized in tobacco pollen tubes. We found that several fusion proteins showed distinct overexpression phenotypes and subcellular localization patterns. CDPK24-GFP was localized to the vegetative nucleus and the generative cell/sperms. CDPK32-GFP caused severe growth depolarization. CBL2-GFP and CBL3-GFP exhibited dynamic patterns of subcellular localization, including several endomembrane compartments, the apical plasma membrane （PM）, and cytoskeleton-like structures in pollen tubes. Their overexpression also inhibited pollen tube elongation and induced growth depolarization. These putative calcium sensors are excellent candidates for the calcium sensors responsible for the regulation of calcium homeostasis and calciumdependent tip growth and growth oscillation in pollen tubes.

Variation of δ^(13)C in karst soil in Yaji Karst Experiment Site, Guilin

This study deals with δ13C variation in karst soil system of Yaji Karst Experiment Site, Guilin, a typical region of humid subtropical karst formations. Samples of near ground air, plant tissue, soil and water (soil solution and karst spring) were respectively collected on site in different seasons during 1996-1999. Considerable variation of δ13C values are not only found with different carbon pools of soil organic carbon, soil air CO2 and soil water HCO3-, but also with the soil depths and with different seasons during a year. The δ13C values of CO2 both of near ground air and soil air are lower in July than those in April by 1‰-4‰ PDB. Our results indicate that the δ13C values of carbon in the water and air are essentially dependent on interface carbon interaction of air-plant-soil-rock-water governed by soilorganic carbon and soil CO2 in the system.

Effect of a Microbiological Detoxification Agent on Mycotoxin in Feed Pigs

Biological method is an ideal way to remove the toxin from contaminated feed compared with both physical and chemical methods. A new microbiological agent, BH was used to reduce the toxicity of mildewed wheat containing deoxynivalenol(DON) at 22. 7 mg per kg feed. Experimental animals included two batches of 24 pigs (5 kg ) and 48 pigs (30 kg). Each batch was randomly divided into 4 groups fed with diets supplemented with different agents as follows: Group 1, +DON; Group2, +DON + BH; Group3, +BH; Group4, just the routine diet as control. The pigs were weighed every 2 weeks, while blood biochemical items were detected every 3 weeks during the experimental period of 6 weeks. The results showed that DON significantly reduced the weight gain of both batches. BH greatly alleviated the harm of DON to the animals. However, BH alone had no influence on weight gain. Furthermore, DON increased some biochemical items significantly, such as AST and GPT. In vitro, BH reduced the amount of DON in liquid medium, while BH added mildew feed did not apparently affect the content of DON in feed if they did not pass the gastrointestine.

The complete sequence(from ATG to TAA) of a glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase(gpd) gene isolated from Volvariella volvacea consisted of 1489 bp and contained nine introns of similar *** full-length cDNA of gpd contained 1157 nucleotides with a predicted ORF of 1011 bp encoding for 337 amino acids and a 3'-untranslated region of 95 *** promoter elements have been identified in a 1220 bp 5'-flanking region,analysis of which revealed two TATA boxes located 80 and 559 bp upstream of the start codon,and three CAAT boxes 333,340 and 406 bp upstream of the initiating *** blot analysis suggested that the *** genome contained only one copy of the gpd *** blot analysis revealed that gpd gene expression was not induced by cold stress,which may explain in part why this mushroom is more perishable than other mushrooms in which gpd expression increases during exposure to low temperatures.
