Improving flight performance of UAVs by ice shape modulation

Aircraft icing poses a great threat to flight *** response to the characteristics of high-power consumption,large volume,and heavy weight of traditional anti-/de-icing technologies,the concept of ice shape modulation is proposed,which is called ice tolerant ***,the flight performance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)was compared in three states:no ice,full ice,and modulated ice through flight *** was found that ice shape modulation has a significant improvement effect on the aerodynamic performance of aircraft under icing *** the three modulated ice shape conditions in this experiment,the lift coefficient of the UAV under different ice shape modulation conditions increased by 18%–33%,and the stalling angle was delayed by 3°-5°.Subsequently,the pressure distribution,streamlines in the flow field,and detached vortex distribution of the UAV model in these three states were obtained through numerical simulation,to study the mechanism of ice shape modulation on the aerodynamic performance of *** simulation found that the reason for the improvement of the wings effect after ice shape modulation is that the modulated area forms a leading-edge protrusion structure similar to a vortex *** structure prolongs the mixed flow region on the wings surface and reduces the trend of flow separation,which plays a role in increasing lift and reducing drag for UAVs under icing ***,a reverse reachable set that can be used for unexpected state recovery is used as the definition of flight safety boundaries,and an aircraft dynamics model is established to obtain flight safety boundaries for different *** has found that the flight safety boundary of the UAV in a no ice state is greater than that in a modulated ice state,and the safety boundary in a modulated ice state is greater than that in a full ice *** with the full ice state,the flight safety boundary after modulation has expanded by 27.0%.The sch

Gravity assistance is a critical factor influencing CO_(2)-Oil mixing and miscible flow during EOR and CO_(2)geological *** on the Navier-Stokes equation,component mass conservation equation,and fluid property-composition relationship,a mathematical model for pore-scale CO_(2) injection in oilsaturated porous media was developed in this *** model can reflect the effects of gravity assistance,component diffusion,fluid density variation,and velocity change on EOR and CO_(2) *** nonhomogeneous porous media,the gravity influence and large density difference help to minimize the velocity difference between the main flow path and the surrounding area,thus improving the oil recovery and CO_(2) *** CO_(2) injection angles and oil-CO_(2) density differences can increase the oil recovery by 22.6% and 4.2%,respectively,and increase CO_(2) storage by 37.9% and 4.7%,*** diffusion facilitates the transportation of the oil components from the low-velocity region to the main flow path,thereby reducing the oil/CO_(2) concentration difference within the porous *** diffusion can increase oil recovery and CO_(2) storage by 5.7% and 6.9%,*** addition,combined with the component diffusion,a low CO_(2) injection rate creates a more uniform spatial distribution of the oil/CO_(2) component,resulting in increases of 9.5% oil recovery and 15.7% CO_(2) storage,*** study provides theoretical support for improving the geological CO_(2) storage and EOR processes.

The backreaming operation plays a significant role in safe drilling for horizontal wellbores, while it may cause severe stuck pipe accidents. To lower the risk of the stuck pipe in backreaming operations, the mechanism of cuttings transport needs to be carefully investigated. In this research, a transient cuttings transport with multiple flow patterns model is developed to predict the evolution of cuttings transported in the annulus while backreaming. The established model can provide predictions of the distribution of cuttings bed along the wellbore considering the bulldozer effect caused by large-size drilling tools(LSDTs). The sensitivity analyses of the size of LSDTs, and backreaming operating parameters are conducted in Section 4. And a new theory is proposed to explain the mechanism of cuttings transport in the backreaming operation, in which both the bit and LSDTs have the “cleaning effect” and “plugging effect”.The results demonstrate that the cuttings bed in annuli is in a state of dynamic equilibrium, but the overall trend and the distribution pattern are obvious. First, larger diameters and longer drilling tools could lead to a higher risk of the stuck pipe. Second, we find that it is not the case that the higher flow rate is always better for hole cleaning, so three flow-rate intervals are discussed separately under the given conditions. When the “dangerous flow rate”(35 L/s in Case 4),the higher the flow rate, the better the cleaning effect of cuttings beds. The particle gradation of sand has a significant influence on its shear strength,yet the similarities and differences between the effects of continuous and gap grading have yet to be fully *** this study,the discrete element method(DEM)was used to simulate biaxial tests on granular samples that were both continuously graded and *** macroscopic analysis revealed that the shear strength of continuously graded sands increases initially and then decreases as the uniformity of particle size distribution *** the other hand,the lack of medium particles in gap-graded sands amplifies the difference in particle size between coarse and fine particles,leading to a decrease in shear ***,both continuous and gap gradings affect the internal packing structure of the particle assembly,which consequently affects particle stress distributions,contact forces,coordination numbers,stress-induced anisotropies,and contact force networks,thus having an impact on the macroscopic shear *** global uniformity of particle size distribution was unidirectionally affected by continuous grading,while gap grading had a locally bidirectional *** findings provide a better understanding of the effects of particle grading on the macroscopic shear strength of sands.

Several types of acoustic metamaterials composed of resonant units have been developed to achieve low-frequency bandgaps. In most of these structures, bandgaps are determined by their geometric configurations and material properties. This paper presents a frequency-displacement feedback control method for vibration suppression in a sandwich-like acoustic metamaterial plate. The band structure is theoretically derived using the Hamilton principle and validated by comparing the theoretical calculation results with the finite element simulation results. In this method, the feedback voltage is related to the displacement of a resonator and the excitation frequency. By applying a feedback voltage on the piezoelectric fiber-reinforced composite(PFRC) layers attached to a cantilever-mass resonator, the natural frequency of the resonator can be adjusted. It ensures that the bandgap moves in a frequency-dependent manner to keep the excitation frequency within the bandgap. Based on this frequency-displacement feedback control strategy, the bandgap of the metamaterial plate can be effectively adjusted, and the vibration of the metamaterial plate can be significantly suppressed.

With the development of hydrogen energy,palladium-based membranes have been widely used in hydrogen separation and ***,the poor chemical stability of palladium composite membranes limits their commercial *** this study,a zeolite-palladium composite membrane with a sandwich-like structure was obtained by using a TS-1 zeolite film grown on the surface of palladium *** membrane microstructure was characterized by SEM and *** effects of the TS-1 film on the hydrogen permeability and stability of palladium composite membrane were investigated in *** from the protection of the TS-1 zeolite film,the stability of palladium composite membrane was *** results indicate that the TS-1-Pd composite membrane was stable after eight cycles of the temperature exchange cycles between 773 K and 623 ***,the loss of hydrogen permeance for TS-1-Pd composite membrane was much smaller than that of the pure palladium membrane when the membrane was tested in the presence of *** indicated that the TS-1-Pd composite membrane had better chemical stability in comparison with pure palladium membrane,owing to its sandwich-like *** work provides an efficient way for the deposition of zeolite film on palladium membrane to enhance the membrane stability.
