Computed tomography perfusion imaging evaluation of angiogenesis in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma

BACKGROUND Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system.More than 80%of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma are not diagnosed until late stage and have distant or local metastases.AIM To investigate the value of computed tomography(CT)perfusion imaging in the evaluation of angiogenesis in pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients.METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study.Patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma and volunteers without pancreatic diseases underwent CT perfusion imaging from December 2014 to August 2017 in Huashan Hospital,Fudan University Shanghai,China.RESULTS A total number of 35 pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients and 33 volunteers were enrolled.The relative blood flow(r BF),and relative blood volume(r BV)were significantly lower in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma than in the control group(P<0.05).Conversely,the relative permeability in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than that in controls(P<0.05).In addition,r BF,r BV,and the vascular maturity index(VMI)were significantly lower in gradeⅢ-Ⅳpancreatic adenocarcinoma than in gradeⅠ-Ⅱpancreatic adenocarcinoma(P<0.05).Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),CD105-MVD,CD34-MVD,and angiogenesis rate(AR)were significantly higher in gradeⅢ-Ⅳpancreatic adenocarcinoma than in gradeⅠ-Ⅱpancreatic adenocarcinoma(P<0.05).Significant correlations between r BF and VEGF,CD105-MVD,AR,and VMI(P<0.01)were observed.Moreover,the levels of r BV were statistically significantly correlated with those of VEGF,CD105-MVD,CD34-MVD,and VMI(P<0.01).CONCLUSION Perfusion CT imaging may be an appropriate approach for quantitative assessment of tumor angiogenesis in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

As an important part of biogeochemical cycling,the nitrogen cycle modulates terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage,water consumption,and environmental quality.Modeling the complex interactions between nitrogen,carbon and water at a regional scale remains challenging.Using China as a testbed,this study presents the first application of the nitrogenaugmented community Noah land surface model with multi-parameterization options(Noah-MP-CN)at the regional scale.Noah-MP-CN parameterizes the constraints of nitrogen availability on photosynthesis based on the Fixation and Uptake of Nitrogen plant nitrogen model and the Soil and Water Assessment Tool soil nitrogen model.The impacts of nitrogen dynamics on the terrestrial carbon and water cycles are investigated by comparing the simulations with those from the original Noah-MP.The results show that incorporating nitrogen dynamics improves the carbon cycle simulations.NoahMP-CN outperforms Noah-MP in reproducing leaf area index(LAI)and gross primary productivity(GPP)for most of China,especially in the southern warm and humid regions,while the hydrological simulations only exhibit slight improvements in soil moisture and evapotranspiration.The impacts of fertilizer application over cropland on carbon fixation,water consumption and nitrogen leaching are investigated through a trade-off analysis.Compared to halved fertilizer use,the actual quantity of application increases GPP and water consumption by only 1.97%and 0.43%,respectively;however,the nitrogen leaching is increased by 5.35%.This indicates that the current level of fertilizer use is a potential concern for degrading the environment.

Previous studies showed that acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid(AKBA),the active ingredient in the natural Chinese medicine Boswellia,can stimulate sciatic nerve injury repair via promoting Schwann cell proliferation.However,the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood.In this study,we performed genomic sequencing in a rat model of sciatic nerve crush injury after gastric AKBA administration for 30 days.We found that the phagosome pathway was related to AKBA treatment,and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in the neurotrophic factor signaling pathway was also highly up-regulated.We further investigated gene and protein expression changes in the phagosome pathway and neurotrophic factor signaling pathway.Myeloperoxidase expression in the phagosome pathway was markedly decreased,and brain-derived neurotrophic factor,nerve growth factor,and nerve growth factor receptor expression levels in the neurotrophic factor signaling pathway were greatly increased.Additionally,expression levels of the inflammatory factors CD68,interleukin-1β,pro-interleukin-1β,and tumor necrosis factor-αwere also decreased.Myelin basic protein-andβ3-tubulin-positive expression as well as the axon diameter-to-total nerve diameter ratio in the injured sciatic nerve were also increased.These findings suggest that,at the molecular level,AKBA can increase neurotrophic factor expression through inhibiting myeloperoxidase expression and reducing inflammatory reactions,which could promote myelin sheath and axon regeneration in the injured sciatic nerve.

To the editor, Multiple glomus tumor is a rare benign neoplasmthat arises from the glomus body in the stratum retic-ularis of the dennis, the highly specialized arteriove-nous anastomosis for thennoregulation.1-4 Althoughseveral cases of multiple glomus tumor involving theanterior thigh,5 submandibular and parotid regions,6 thetorso,7 have been reported, radiological characteristicson MRI images for multiple glomus tumor have notbeen described.We reported here both pre-operativeand post-operative MR images from a case of 16years old girl with multiple glomus tumor that partiallycoalesced on the anterior side of the leg.

The implementation of scalable quantum networks requires photons at the telecom band and long-lived spin coherence. The single Er3+in solid-state hosts is an important candidate that fulfills these critical requirements simultaneously. However, to entangle distant Er3+ions through photonic connections, the emission frequency of individual Er3+in solid-state matrix must be the same, which is challenging because the emission frequency of Er3+depends on its local environment. Herein, we propose and experimentally demonstrate the Stark tuning of the emission frequency of a single Er3+in a Y2SiO5crystal by employing electrodes interfaced with a silicon photonic crystal cavity. We obtain a Stark shift of 182.9±0.8 MHz, which is approximately 27 times of the optical emission linewidth, demonstrating promising applications in tuning the emission frequency of independent Er3+into the same spectral channels. Our results provide a useful solution for construction of scalable quantum networks based on single Er3+and a universal tool for tuning emission of individual rare-earth ions.

This paper discusses the effect of graupel/hail parameters on a convective system in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province. The simulation results using the original model settings were similar to observations in terms of radar reflectivity and sea level pressure, as well as the identification of hydrometeor particle classification by X-band dual-polarization radar data. Sensitivity tests using changed parameters of graupel/hail indicated that a size distribution with larger and denser but fewer hail hydrometers resulted in a weaker development of the convective system in the horizontal and vertical directions. With a large terminal velocity of hail, the melting rate of graupel and evaporation rate of rain were the lowest. Hail could reach the ground and the mixing ratio of rain was the largest near the ground. Precipitation, including rainwater and hail, was the largest. However, a size distribution with smaller and lighter but numerous graupel hydrometers resulted in a stronger development of the convective system. The melting rate of graupel and evaporation rate of rain were the largest. More graupel particles were stranded in the air for a longer time—and the maximum mixing ratio of rain was the largest. The precipitation amount, including rainwater only, was the smallest. The changes to graupel parameters also led to differences in microphysical processes.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between the expression level of miR-155 and the severity of coronary lesion,and explore the action mechanism.Methods:Peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) were isolated form blood simple from patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI),unstable angina(UAP).stable angina(SAP) and chesl pain syndrome(CPS).RT-PCR was performed to analysis the expression level of miR-155 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells,plasma and RAW264.7 macrophagocyte.MTT was used to analyze the cell viability of OxLDL treated RAW264.7 macrophagocyte.Results:The expression level of miR-155 in blood sample from coronary heart disease patients was much lower than in the blood sample of non-coronary heart disease(P<0.05).The level of miR-155 in PBMCs was much higher in the blood sample from CPS group than the other three group,and the level of miR-155 in plasma was higher in the CPS group than in the UAP and the AMI group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The expression level of miR-155 in PBMCs is positively associated with the level in the plasma(r=0.861,P=0.000).OxLDL can induce the expression of miR-155 in RAW264.7 macrophagocyte.decrease the cell viability of RAW264.7 macrophagocyte.and with the concentration and the treatment time of OxLDL increased,the effort become more obvious.The inhibition effort of OxLDL to RAW264.7macrophagocyte with high miR-155 expression is much lower than the control group,and it is statistically significant after treated for 12.24 and 48 h.Conclusions:miR-155 plays a protective role in the progression of atherosclerosis,and it may be achieved by reducing the apoptosis effort of OxLDL to RAW264.7 macrophagocyte.

Background: Previous studies have provided conflicting results regarding whether the serum ghrelin concentration can reflect the severity of acute pancreatitis(AP). The present study examined the correlation between the serum ghrelin concentration and AP severity in animal models and investigated whether altered ghrelin expression in pancreatic acinar cells influences IKK β/NF-κ B signaling and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Methods: Mild or severe AP was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of cerulein or retrograde cholangiopancreatic duct injection of sodium taurocholate, respectively. After successful model induction, serum ghrelin, tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), and interleukin-6(IL-6) concentrations were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and IKK β/NF-κ B activation was assessed by immunohistochemistry. Subsequently, stable overexpression or knockdown of ghrelin in AR42 J cells was achieved by lentiviral transfection. After transfected cells and control cells were treated with cerulein for 24 h, the TNF-αand IL-1 β levels in the supernatants were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the expression levels of p-p65, IKK β, and p-IKK β were detected by Western blotting. Results: In rat AP models, AP severity was correlated with increased IKK β/NF-κ B activation, proinflammatory cytokine production, and ghrelin secretion. The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-αand IL-1 β as well as IKK β/NF-κ B signaling activity were increased upon knockdown of ghrelin in the AP acinar cell model and decreased with ghrelin overexpression. Conclusions: Serum ghrelin is related to the severity of AP. Ghrelin may play a protective role in the pathogenesis of AP by inhibiting the pro-inflammatory cytokines and the activation of the IKK β/NF-κ B signaling pathway.

To evaluate outcomes between extraperitoneal robotic single-port radical prostatectomy(epR-spRP)and extraperitoneal robotic multiport radical prostatectomy(epR-mpRP)performed with the da Vinci Si Surgical System,comparison was performed between 30 single-port(SP group)and 26 multiport(MP group)cases.Comparisons included operative time,estimated blood loss(EBL),hospital stay,peritoneal violation,pain scores,scar satisfaction,continence,and erectile function.The median operation time and EBL were not different between the two groups.In the SP group,the median operation time of the first 10 patients was obviously longer than that of the latter 20 patients(P<0.001).The median postoperative hospital stay in the SP group was shorter than that in the MP group(P<0.001).The rate of peritoneal damage in the SP group was less than that in the MP group(P=0.017).The pain score and overall need for pain medications in the SP group were lower than those in the MP group(P<0.001 and P=0.015,respectively).Patients in the SP group were more satisfied with their scars than those in the MP group 3 months postoperatively(P=0.007).At 3 months,the cancer control,recovery of erectile function,and urinary continence rates were similar between the two groups.It is safe and feasible to perform epR-spRP using the da Vinci Si surgical system.Therefore,epR-spRP can be a treatment option for localized prostate cancer.Although epR-spRP still has a learning curve,it has advantages for postoperative pain and self-assessed cosmesis.In the absence of the single-port robotic surgery platform,we can still provide minimally invasive surgery for patients.
