The Singapore Statement on Research Integrity,artic-ulated during the 2nd World Conference on Research Integrity in 2010,encompasses principles that apply to all research endeavours,including the various disci-plines that comprise the field of forensic science.(Singapore Statement on Research Integrity(2010)(https://***/guidance/singapore-statement)).Cases of research misconduct and breaches of research integ-rity in any field undermine the trustworthiness of research and make it difficult if not impossible for others to rely upon and replicate research results.Moreover,problems in the research environment,whether in the academic,public,or private sector,can include bullying and harassment,discrimination,abuse of power and corruption,as well as competitive pres-sures related to employment and status.

Superficial Angiomyxoma of the Vulva: A Case Report

Superficial angiomyxoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that mainly occurs in the genital region. We report the case of a 51-year-old woman with a painless vulvar mass, well circumscribed on ultrasound. On gross finding, it was a polypoid and bilobed mass, partially encapsulated. On histological examination, it was a proliferation of non-atypical spindle cells with an abundant, myxoid stroma and numerous medium-sized blood vessels. The diagnosis was superficial angiomyxoma. The clinical features do not often lead to the diagnosis of superficial vulvar angiomyxoma. It is based on histological examination and immunohistochemistry is helpful to differentiate it from other myxoid tumors.

In this paper we pursue the study of the best approximation operator extended from L~Φ to L~φ, where φ denotes the derivative of the function Φ. We get pointwise convergence for the coefficients of the extended best approximation polynomials for a wide class of function f, closely related to the Calder′on–Zygmund class t_m^p(x) which had been introduced in 1961. We also obtain weak and strong type inequalities for a maximal operator related to the extended best polynomial approximation and a norm convergence result for the coefficients is derived. In most of these results, we have to consider Matuszewska–Orlicz indices for the function φ.

As the consumption of fructose and saturated fatty acids(FAs) has greatly increased in western diets and is linked with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome,the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a mod-erate(10 weeks) and a prolonged(30 weeks) high fructose and saturated fatty acid(HFS) diet on plasma FA com-position in rats.The effects of a few weeks of HFS diet had already been described,but in this paper we tried to es-tablish whether these effects persist or if they are modified after 10 or 30 weeks.We hypothesized that the plasma FA profile would be altered between 10 and 30 weeks of the HFS diet.Rats fed with either the HFS or a standard diet were tested after 10 weeks and again after 30 weeks.After 10 weeks of feeding,HFS-fed rats developed the metabolic syndrome,as manifested by an increase in fasting insulinemia,total cholesterol and triglyceride levels,as well as by impaired glucose tolerance.Furthermore,the plasma FA profile of the HFS group showed higher proportions of monounsaturated FAs like palmitoleic acid [16:1(n-7)] and oleic acid [18:1(n-9)],whereas the proportions of some polyunsaturated n-6 FAs,such as linoleic acid [18:2(n-6)] and arachidonic acid [20:4(n-6)],were lower than those in the control group.After 30 weeks of the HFS diet,we observed changes mainly in the levels of 16:1(n-7)(decreased) and 20:4(n-6)(increased).Together,our results suggest that an HFS diet could lead to an adaptive response of the plasma FA profile over time,in association with the development of the metabolic syndrome.

Preparation of Porous Silica Ceramics with Low Dielectric Constant

Porous silica ceramics has been prepared with the starch consolidation casting method. Slurries with various fractions of starch added in were prepared by ball-milling. The evaluation of the microstructures was done through two techniques： Hg porosimetry and SEM investigation. The bending strength of the sintered samples varied within the range of 10 MPa-20 MPa and the low dielectric constant within the range of 2.0-2.4 correspondent with the porosity of 42%-56%. The ceramics holds a brilliant promise of being a kind of core material used in sandwich-like electromagnetic windows.

Influence of primary tumor location and resection on survival in metastatic colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Patients with right sided colorectal cancer are known to have a poorer prognosis than patients with left sided colorectal cancer, whatever the cancer stage. To this day, primary tumor resection(PTR) is still controversial in a metastatic, non resectable setting.AIM To explore the survival impact of PTR in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC) depending on PTL.METHODS We retrospectively collected data from all consecutive patients treated for mCRC at the Centre Georges Francois Leclerc Hospital. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to assess the influence of PTR on survival. We then evaluated the association between PTL and overall survival among patients who previously underwent or did not undergo PTR. A propensity score was performed to match cohorts.RESULTS Four hundred and sixty-six patients were included. A total of 153(32.8%) patients had unresected synchronous mCRC and 313(67.2%) patients had resected synchronous mCRC. The number of patients with right colic cancer, left colic cancer and rectal cancer was respectively 174(37.3%), 203(43.6%) and 89(19.1%). In the multivariate analysis only PTL, PTR, resection of hepatic and or pulmonary metastases and the use of oxaliplatin, EGFR inhibitors or bevacizumab throughout treatment were associated to higher overall survival rates. Survival evaluation depending on PTR and PTL found that PTR improved the prognosis of both left and right sided mCRC. Results were confirmed by using a weighted propensity score.CONCLUSION In mCRC, PTR seems to confer a higher survival rate to patients whatever the PTL.

Bilateral Ovarian Fibroma: About a Case Seen at Chu Anosiala, Antananarivo

Ovarian fibroma is a tumor of the stroma and sex cords of the ovary. It is rare and represents 1% to 4% of benign ovarian tumors. It is sometimes associated with Demons-Meigs syndrome, raising suspicion of malignancy at the clinical and paraclinical stages. We report a case of bilateral ovarian fibroma diagnosed in the Pathological Anatomy Department of CHU Anosiala. A 46-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and pollakiuria. Clinical examination revealed a palpable abdominopelvic mass lateralized to the right. Ultrasound suspected leiomyoma. Foci of microcalcifications were observed. The patient underwent bilateral adnexectomy. The histological study confirmed the diagnosis of bilateral ovarian fibroma. This is the first case of ovarian fibroma reported at the CHU Anosiala.

Trust is an important aspect of the design and analysis of secure distributed systems. It is often used informally to designate those portions of a system that must function correctly in order to achieve the desired outcome. But it is a notoriously diffcult notion to formalize. What are the properties of trust? How is it learned, propagated, and utilized successfully? How can it be modeled? How can a trust model be used to derive protocols that are effcient and reliable when employed in today's expansive networks? Past work has been concerned with only a few of these issues, without concentrating on the need for a comprehensive approach to trust modeling. In this paper, we take a first step in that direction by studying an artificial community of agents that uses a notion of trust to succeed in a game against nature. The model is simple enough to analyze and simulate, but also rich enough to exhibit phenomena of real life interactive communities. The model requires agents to make decisions. To do well, the agents are informed by knowledge gained from their own past experience as well as from the experience of other agents. Communication among agents allows knowledge to propagate faster through the network, which in turn can allow for a more successful community. We analyze the model from both a theoretical and an experimental point of view.
