Colonoscopy plays an important role in detecting colorectal neoplasms in patients with gastric neoplasms

Clinical comparison of antrum-preserving double tract reconstruction vs roux-en-Y reconstruction after gastrectomy for Siewert types Ⅱ and Ⅲ adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction

AIM:To explore a reasonable method of digestive tract reconstruction,namely,antrum-preserving double-tract reconstruction(ADTR),for patients with adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction(AEG) and to assess its efficacy and safety in terms of longterm survival,complications,morbidity and ***:A total of 55 cases were retrospectively collected,including 18 cases undergoing ADTR and 37 cases of Roux-en-Y reconstruction(RY) for AEG(Siewert types Ⅱ and Ⅲ) at North Sichuan Medical College. The cases were divided into two groups. The clinicopathological characteristics,perioperative outcomes,postoperative complications,morbidity and overall survival(OS) were compared for the two different reconstruction ***:Basic characteristics including sex,age,body mass index(BMI),Siewert type,p T status,p N stage,and lymph node metastasis were similar in the two groups. No significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of perioperative outcomes(including the length of postoperative hospital stay,operating time,and intraoperative blood loss) and postoperative complications(consisting of anastomosis-related complications,wound infection,respiratory infection,pleural effusion,lymphorrhagia,and cholelithiasis). For the ADTR group,perioperativerecovery indexes such as time to first flatus(P = 0.002) and time to resuming a liquid diet(P = 0.001) were faster than those for the RY group. Moreover,the incidence of reflux esophagitis was significantly decreased compared with the RY group(P = 0.048). The postoperative morbidity and mortality rates for overall postoperative complications and the rates of tumor recurrence and metastasis were not significantly different between the two groups. Survival curves plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank test demonstrated similar outcomes for the ADTR and RY groups. SNP Analysis and Haplotype Identification in Chymotrypsin Inhibitor-2 (CI-2) Gene of Barley

Barley chymotrypsin inhibitor-2 （CI-2） was considered to be a promising candidate for enhancing the nutritional value of other cereals by increasing its concentration as it is rich in lysine than any other storage protein. Also, it was proposed that CI-2 might play an important role in the inhibition of proteolytic enzymes from pests or pathogens as CI-2 can strongly inhibit chymotrypsin and subtilisin. In this study, a total of 93 CI-2 gene sequences were isolated from wild and cultivated barley. 48 SNPs and 4 indels were detected across the entire sequences. The frequency of SNPs in the noncoding region （1 out of 9 bases） was slightly higher than that in the coding region （1 out of 10.7 bases）. In all, 33.3% of the candidate cSNPs resulted in amino acid changes. As a total, the 24 cSNPs resulted in 15 amino acid changes. Ten distinguishable haplotypes were detected, among which 3 haplotypes were shared in the most barley accessions, whereas the rest of the haplotypes appeared at a lower frequency. In addition, three haplotypes （haplotype 4, 8, and 9） were unique for single accessions. These results suggested that low diversity at the CI-2 locus was detected among the cultivated and wild barley.

Quantum information processing and metrology with color centers in diamonds

The Nitrogen Vacancy （NV） center is becoming a promising qubit for quantum information processing. The defect has a long coherence time at room temperature and it allows spin state initialized and read out by laser and manipulated by microwave pulses. It has been utilized as a ultra sensi- tive probe for magnetic fields and remote spins as well. Here, we review the recent progresses in experimental demonstrations based on NV centers. We first introduce our work on implementation of the Deutsch- Jozsa algorithm with a single electronic spin in diamond. Then the quantum nature of the bath around the center spin is revealed and continuous wave dynamical decoupling has been demonstrated. By applying dynamical decoupling, a multi-pass quantum metrology protocol is realized to enhance phase estimation. In the final, we demonstrated NV center can be regarded as a ultra-sensitive sensor spin to implement nuclear magnetic resonance （NMR） imaging at nanoscale.

Dietary n-6：n-3 ratio and Vitamin E improve motility characteristics in association with membrane properties of boar spermatozoa

This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary n-6：n-3 ratio and Vitamin E on the membrane properties and motility characteristics of spermatozoa in boars. Forty Duroc boars were randomly distributed in a 2 × 2 factorial design with two n-6：n-3 ratios （14.4 and 6.6） and two Vitamin E levels （200 and 400 mg kg-1）. During 16 weeks of treatment, fresh semen was collected at weeks O, 8, 12, and 16 for measurements of motility characteristics, contents of fatty acids, membrane properties （membrane fluidity and membrane integrity）, and lipid peroxidation of the spermatozoa. The semen was diluted in Beltsville Thawing Solution （BTS） extender and stored at 17℃, and the sperm motility was assessed at 12, 36, 72, and 120 h of storage. The 6.6 n-6.n-3 dietary ratio increased the contents of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids （PUFAs） and docosabexaenoic acid （DHA） and improved the membrane integrity and membrane fluidity of the spermatozoa, resulting in notably increased total motility, sperm progressive motility, and velocity parameters of fresh semen. Feeding diet with Vitamin E （400 mg kg-1） prevented sperm lipid peroxidation, and resulted in higher total motility and sperm progressive motility in fresh and liquid stored semen. In conclusion, the adjustment of n-6.n-3 ratio （6.6） and supply of Vitamin E （400 mg kg-1） successfully improved sperm motility characteristics and thus may be beneficial to the fertility of boars, which might be due to the modification of the physical and functional properties of spermatozoa membrane in response to dietary supplementation.

Judd-Ofelt Analysis on Trifluoroacetate Europium Complexes for Liquid Laser Media

Four europium trifiuoroacetate complexes, Eu（CF3COO）3＂bpy（bpy=2,2＇-bipyridine）（l）, Eu（CF3COO）3＂ phen（phen=l,10-phenanthroline）（2）, Eu（CF3COO）3.2bp（bp=benzophenone）（3） and Eu（CF3COO）3-2tppo（tppo=triphenyl- phosphine oxide）（4） were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared（FTIR） spectroscopy, photoluminescence（PL） spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）. The PL spectra of the complexes at room temperature show the strong typical Eu3＋ ion red emission, due to the efficient energy ＂antenna absorption＂ of ligands and transitions of Eu3＋ ion between 5Do----7Fj（j-0-4）. The long lifetime and high quantum yield reflect that the multiphonon relaxations by coupling to O--H and C--H vibrations were reduced. According to the photoluminescent spectra, the Judd-Ofelt parameters f22 and 04 of the complexes were calculated and the radiative properties were also presented. The 5D0 radiative lifetime, quantum yield and the stimulated emission cross-section of the complexes are excellent, which prove that they have promising optical properties for liquid laser. The thermal analyses indicate that they are quite stable to heat.

In this study,the effects of dry heat treatments including air frying and baking on the physicochemical and digestive properties of proteins in scallop adductor muscle(SAM)were *** heat treatments,the proteins in SAM exhibited different degrees of oxidation,aggregation and *** both heat treatments,the increase of carbonyl and dityrosine contents and the decrease of free sulfhydryl groups and surface hydrophobicity of proteins in SAM were observed along with increasing heat ***,with increasing heat temperature,there was a progressive transition fromα-helix toβ-sheet in protein secondary ***,the protein solubility first increased and then decreased with increasing *** which,the solubility of 160℃-treated samples was the highest,which were 21.02%and 20.32%for air frying and *** protein digestive properties which reflected by the degree of hydrolysis(DH),soluble amino groups and soluble peptides showed a trend of increasing first and then decreasing with increasing *** gastrointestinal digestion,the DH,soluble amino groups and soluble peptides of 160℃-treated SAMs cooking by air frying were 69.96%,61.14%and 39.33%,respectively,which were significantly higher than all other samples including the fresh *** analysis showed that the protein digestive indexes were positively correlated with solubility,free sulfhydryl content and surface hydrophobicity,and negatively correlated with protein carbonyl content,dityrosine content and protein aggregation *** results provide evidence for knowing more about the effects of dry heat treatments on physicochemical and digestive properties of aquatic muscle food.

Is recovery enhancement after gastric cancer surgery really a safe approach for elderly patients?

BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the safety of enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)in elderly patients with gastric cancer(GC).AIM To evaluate the safety of ERAS in elderly patients with *** The PubMed,EMBASE,and Cochrane Library databases were used to search for eligible studies from inception to April 1,*** mean difference(MD),odds ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(95%CI)were pooled for *** quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale *** used Stata(V.16.0)software for data *** This study consists of six studies involving 878 elderly *** analyzing the clinical outcomes,we found that the ERAS group had shorter postoperative hospital stays(MD=-0.51,I2=0.00%,95%CI=-0.72 to-0.30,P=0.00);earlier times to first flatus(defecation;MD=-0.30,I²=0.00%,95%CI=-0.55 to-0.06,P=0.02);less intestinal obstruction(OR=3.24,I2=0.00%,95%CI=1.07 to 9.78,P=0.04);less nausea and vomiting(OR=4.07,I2=0.00%,95%CI=1.29 to 12.84,P=0.02);and less gastric retention(OR=5.69,I2=2.46%,95%CI=2.00 to 16.20,P=0.00).Our results showed that the conventional group had a greater mortality rate than the ERAS group(OR=0.24,I2=0.00%,95%CI=0.07 to 0.84,P=0.03).However,there was no statistically significant difference in major complications between the ERAS group and the conventional group(OR=0.67,I2=0.00%,95%CI=0.38 to 1.18,P=0.16).CONCLUSION Compared to those with conventional recovery,elderly GC patients who received the ERAS protocol after surgery had a lower risk of mortality.

S5 0716＋714 is one of the targets in our long term blazar monitoring program carried out with the 1.56-m telescope at Sheshan Station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, China. We report a very rapid variability of △I=0.611±0.102 mag over 3.6 min detected in our monitoring program during the period from December 2000 to March 2007. The rapid variability suggests that the mass for the central black hole is log（M/M⊙） = 7.68 - 8.38.
