A multiple flame-retardant,early fire-warning,and highly sensitive thread-shaped all-fabric-based piezoresistive sensor

In the artificial intelligence age,multifunctional and intelligent fireproof fabric-based electronics are urgently needed.Herein,a novel thread-shaped all-fabric-based piezoresistive sensor(denoted as TAFPS)with properties such as flame retardancy,firewarning,and piezoresistivity is proposed,which is composed of an inner nickel-plated fabric electrode,a multifunctional double helix fabric,and an external flame-retardant encapsulation fabric.Owing to the multiple flame-retardant properties of glass fiber tubular fabric,aminated carbon nanotubes(ACNTs),and ammonium polyphosphate,the char residue of the TAFPS reaches40.3 wt%at 800℃.In addition,the heat-sensitive effect of ACNTs during combustion causes a rapid decrease in the TAFPS resistance,triggering the fire alarm system within 2 s.Additionally,benefiting from the force-sensitive behavior of the double helix layer and tightly wrapped pattern of the external heat-shrinkable tubular fabric,TAFPS demonstrated a high sensitivity of4.40 kPa^(-1)(0–5.81 k Pa)and good stability for 10000 s.Considering its excellent flame resistance,high sensitivity,and agreeable stability,the developed TAFPS can be integrated into fire suits to monitor the exercise training process and the external fire environment.This work offers a novel approach for fabricating all-fabric-based piezoresistive sensors in the future for fire prevention and fire alarms,with promising applications in fire protection,the Internet of Things,and smart apparel.

Radiated noise measurement method of underwater low noise target by a vertical nested array

A radiated noise measurement method of underwater acoustic targets with relatively low power by a vertical nested array is studied. Firstly, the array gain requirements for different frequency bands are obtained through comparative analysis of the background noise level and the radiated noise level of the target. Secondly, an ultra wideband constant-beamwidth beamforming method with high robustness is established for the waveguide environment based on convex optimization. The radiated noise measurement and the following spatial array signal processing procedure is formulated. Finally, a vertical nested array measurement system is developed, and the radiated noise measurement method is verified using lake test data. Experimental results show that the radiated noise measurement method has large working bandwidth, high robustness and low measurement uncertainty of about 2 dB.

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs),a rapidly developing category of crystalline conjugated organic polymers,possess highly ordered structures,large specific surface areas,stable chemical properties,and tunable pore microenvironments.Since the first report of boroxine/boronate ester-linked COFs in 2005,COFs have rapidly gained popularity,showing important application prospects in various fields,such as sensing,catalysis,separation,and energy storage.Among them,COFs-based electrochemical(EC)sensors with upgraded analytical performance are arousing extensive interest.In this review,therefore,we summarize the basic properties and the general synthesis methods of COFs used in the field of electroanalytical chemistry,with special emphasis on their usages in the fabrication of chemical sensors,ions sensors,immunosensors,and aptasensors.Notably,the emerged COFs in the electrochemiluminescence(ECL)realm are thoroughly covered along with their preliminary applications.Additionally,final conclusions on state-of-the-art COFs are provided in terms of EC and ECL sensors,as well as challenges and prospects for extending and improving the research and applications of COFs in electroanalytical chemistry.

In Vivo Voltammetric Imaging of Metal Nanoparticle-Catalyzed Single-Cell Electron Transfer by Fermi Level-Responsive Graphene

Metal nanomaterials can facilitate microbial extracellular electron transfer(EET)in the electrochemically active biofilm.However,the role of nanomaterials/bacteria interaction in this process is still unclear.Here,we reported the single-cell voltammetric imaging of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 at the single-cell level to elucidate the metal-enhanced EET mechanism in vivo by the Fermi level-responsive graphene electrode.Quantified oxidation currents of~20 fA were observed from single native cells and gold nanoparticle(AuNP)-coated cells in linear sweep voltammetry analysis.On the contrary,the oxidation potential was reduced by up to 100 mV after AuNP modification.It revealed the mechanism of AuNP-catalyzed direct EET decreasing the oxidation barrier between the outer membrane cytochromes and the electrode.Our method offered a promising strategy to understand the nanomaterials/bacteria interaction and guide the rational construction of EET-related microbial fuel cells.

Background:Prolonged sitting and reduced physical activity lead to low energy expenditures.However,little is known about the joint impact of daily sitting time and physical activity on body fat distribution.We investigated the independent and joint associations of daily sitting time and physical activity with body fat among adults.Methods:This was a cross-sectional analysis of U.S.nationally representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey2011-2018 among adults aged 20 years or older.Daily sitting time and leisure-time physical activity(LTPA)were self-reported using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire.Body fat(total and trunk fat percentage)was determined via dual X-ray absorptiometry.Results:Among 10,808 adults,about 54.6%spent 6 h/day or more sitting;more than one-half reported no LTPA(inactive)or less than 150 min/week LTPA(insufficiently active)with only 43.3%reported 150 min/week or more LTPA(active)in the past week.After fully adjusting for sociodemographic data,lifestyle behaviors,and chronic conditions,prolonged sitting time and low levels of LTPA were associated with higher total and trunk fat percentages in both sexes.When stratifying by LTPA,the association between daily sitting time and body fat appeared to be stronger in those who were inactive/insuufficiently active.In the joint analyses,inactive/insuufficiently active adults who reported sitting more than 8 h/day had the highest total(female:3.99%(95%confidence interval(95%CI):3.09%-4.88%);male:3.79%(95%CI:2.75%-4.82%))and trunk body fat percentages(female:4.21%(95%CI:3.09%-5.32%);male:4.07%(95%CI:2.95%-5.19%))when compared with those who were active and sitting less than 4 h/day.Conclusion:Prolonged daily sitting time was associated with increased body fat among U.S.adults.The higher body fat associated with 6 h/day sitting may not be offset by achieving recommended levels of physical activity.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide inhibits neuronal apoptosis in heatstroke rats via PKA/p-CREB pathway

Purpose:The incidence of heatstroke(HS)is not particularly high;however,once it occurs,the consequences are serious.It is reported that calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)is protective against brain injury in HS rats,but detailed molecular mechanisms need to be further investigated.In this study,we further explored whether CGRP inhibited neuronal apoptosis in HS rats via protein kinase A(PKA)/p-cAMP response element-binding protein(p-CREB)pathway.Methods:We established a HS rat model in a pre-warmed artificial climate chamber with a temperature of(35.5±0.5)℃and a relative humidity of 60%±5%.Heatstress was stopped once core body temperature reaches above 41℃.A total of 25 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with 5 animals each:control group,HS group,HS+CGRP group,HS+CGRP antagonist(CGRP8-37)group,and HS+CGRP+PKA/p-CREB pathway blocker(H89)group.A bolus injection of CGRP was administered to each rat in HS+CGRP group,CGRP8-37(antagonist of CGRP)in HS+CGRP8-37 group,and CGRP with H89 in HS+CGRP+H89 group.Electroencephalograms were recorded and the serum concentration of S100B,neuron-specific enolase(NSE),neuron apoptosis,activated caspase-3 and CGRP expression,as well as pathological morphology of brain tissue were detected at 2 h,6 h,and 24 h after HSin vivo.The expression of PKA,p-CREB,and Bcl-2 in rat neurons were also detected at 2 h after HSin vitro.Exogenous CGRP,CGRP8-37,or H89 were used to determine whether CGRP plays a protective role in brain injury via PKA/p-CREB pathway.The unpairedt-test was used between the 2 samples,and the mean±SD was used for multiple samples.Double-tailedp<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:Electroencephalogram showed significant alteration ofθ(54.50±11.51vs.31.30±8.71,F=6.790,p=0.005)andαwave(16.60±3.21vs.35.40±11.28,F=4.549,p=0.020)in HS group compared to the control group 2 h after HS.The results of triphosphate gap terminal labeling(TUNEL)showed that the neuronal apoptosis of HS rats was increased in the cortex(9.67±3.16vs.1.80±1.10,F=11.002,p=0.001)and

Lipid concentration and composition in xylem sap of woody angiosperms from a tropical savanna and a seasonal rainforest

Lipids may play an important role in preventing gas embolisms by coating nanobubbles in xylem sap.Few studies on xylem sap lipids have been reported for temperate plants,and it remain unclear whether sap lipids have adaptational significance in tropical plants.In this study,we quantify the lipid composition of xylem sap for angiosperm species from a tropical savanna(seven species)and a seasonal rainforest(five species)using mass spectrometry.We found that all twelve species studied contained lipids in their xylem sap,including galactolipids,phospholipids and triacylglycerol,with a total lipid concentration ranging from 0.09 to 0.26 nmol/L.There was no difference in lipid concentration or composition between plants from the two sites,and the lipid concentration was negatively related to species’open vessel volume.Furthermore,savanna species showed little variation in lipid composition between the dry and the rainy season.These results support the hypothesis that xylem sap lipids are derived from the cytoplasm of individual conduit cells,remain trapped inside individual conduits,and undergo few changes in composition over consecutive seasons.A xylem sap lipidomic data set,which includes 12 tropical tree species from this study and 11 temperate tree species from literature,revealed no phylogenetic signals in lipid composition for these species.This study fills a knowledge gap in the lipid content of xylem sap in tropical trees and provides additional support for their common distribution in xylem sap of woody angiosperms.It appears that xylem sap lipids have no adaptive significance.

A prognostic four-gene signature and a therapeutic strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma:Construction and analysis of a circRNA-mediated competing endogenous RNA network

Background:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has a poor long-term prognosis.The competition of circular RNAs(circRNAs)with endogenous RNA is a novel tool for predicting HCC prognosis.Based on the alterations of circRNA regulatory networks,the analysis of gene modules related to HCC is feasible.Methods:Multiple expression datasets and RNA element targeting prediction tools were used to construct a circRNA-microRNA-mRNA network in HCC.Gene function,pathway,and protein interaction analyses were performed for the differentially expressed genes(DEGs)in this regulatory network.In the proteinprotein interaction network,hub genes were identified and subjected to regression analysis,producing an optimized four-gene signature for prognostic risk stratification in HCC patients.Anti-HCC drugs were excavated by assessing the DEGs between the low-and high-risk groups.A circRNA-microRNA-hub gene subnetwork was constructed,in which three hallmark genes,KIF4A,CCNA2,and PBK,were subjected to functional enrichment analysis.Results:A four-gene signature(KIF4A,CCNA2,PBK,and ZWINT)that effectively estimated the overall survival and aided in prognostic risk assessment in the The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)cohort and International Cancer Genome Consortium(ICGC)cohort was developed.CDK inhibitors,PI3K inhibitors,HDAC inhibitors,and EGFR inhibitors were predicted as four potential mechanisms of drug action(MOA)in high-risk HCC patients.Subsequent analysis has revealed that PBK,CCNA2,and KIF4A play a crucial role in regulating the tumor microenvironment by promoting immune cell invasion,regulating microsatellite instability(MSI),and exerting an impact on HCC progression.Conclusions:The present study highlights the role of the circRNA-related regulatory network,identifies a four-gene prognostic signature and biomarkers,and further identifies novel therapy for HCC.

The transformation of aldose to ketose or common sugars into rare saccharides,including rare ketoses and aldoses,is of great value and interest to the food industry and for saccharidic biomass utilization,medicine,and the synthesis of drugs.Nowadays,high-fructose corn syrup(HFCS)is industrially produced in more than 10 million tons annually using immobilized glucose isomerase.Some low-calorie saccharides such as tagatose and psicose,which are becoming popular sweeteners,have also been produced on a pilot scale in order to replace sucrose and HFCS.However,current catalysts and catalytic processes are still difficult to utilize in biomass conversion and also have strong substrate dependence in producing high-value,rare sugars.Considering the specific reaction properties of saccharides and catalysts,since the pioneering discovery by Fischer,various catalysts and catalytic systems have been discovered or developed in attempts to extend the reaction pathways,improve the reaction efficiency,and to potentially produce commercial products.In this review,we trace the history of sugar isomerization/epimerization reactions and summarize the important breakthroughs for each reaction as well as the difficulties that remain unresolved to date.

Steering surface reconstruction of hybrid metal oxides for efficient oxygen evolution reaction in water splitting and zinc-air batteries

Surface reconstruction yields real active species in electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction(OER)conditions;however,rationally regulating reconstruction in a targeted manner for constructing highly active OER electrocatalysts remains a formidable challenge.Here,an electrochemical activation strategy with selective etching was utilized to guide the reconstruction process of a hybrid cobalt-molybdenum oxide(CoMoO_(4)/Co_(3)O_(4)@CC)in a favorable direction to improve the OER performance.Both in-situ Raman and multiple ex-situ characterization tools demonstrate that controlled surface reconstruction can be easily achieved through Mo etching,with the formation of a dynamically stable amorphous-crystalline heterostructure.Theoretical calculations together with experimental results reveal that the synergistic effects between amorphous CoOOH and crystalline Co_(3)O_(4) are crucial in enhancing the catalytic performance.Consequently,the reconstructed CoMoO_(4)/Co_(3)O_(4)@CC exhibits a low overpotential of 250 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) in 1 M KOH,and more importantly it can be practiced in electrolytic water splitting and rechargeable zinc-air batteries devices,achieving ultra-long stability for over 500 and 1200 h,respectively.This work provides a promising route for the construction of high-performance electrocatalysts.
