The Pomacea canaliculata, also known as apple snail, is an invasive species in China, posing a serious threat to agricultural production and public health. To prevent its rampant infestation, we developed a highly efficient snail-killing lead compound, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(pyridin-3-yl)urea (PBQ). However, the killing mechanism of PBQ remains unclear. To elucidate this, two novel compounds, B-PBQ and J-PBQ, were developed through structural modification of PBQ and were used, through both protein pull-down assay and confocal laser scanning microscopy imaging, to identify and confirm that phosphofructokinase(PFK) in the apple snail is the primary target protein of PBQ. Further studies revealed that PBQ successfully inhibits the activity,content, and expression of PFK in apple snail, disrupting the glycolysis pathway and leading to abnormal energy *** disruptions impair the snail’s tolerance to low oxygen, resulting in its efficient eradication. These findings offer a promising direction for developing next-generation PFK-targeted snail-killing pesticides. Furthermore, the strategy of combining pull-down assays with optical imaging used in this work provides a novel approach for the exploration of mechanisms of other pesticide candidates.

Fertilization or atmospheric deposition of nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)to terrestrial ecosystems can alter soil N(P)availability and the nature of nutrient limitation for plant *** the allocation of leaf P fractions is potentially an adaptive strategy for plants to cope with soil N(P)availability and nutrient-limiting ***,the impact of the interactions between imbalanced anthropogenic N and P inputs on the concentrations and allocation proportions of leaf P fractions in forest woody plants remains *** conducted a metaanalysis of data about the concentrations and allocation proportions of leaf P fractions,specifically associated with individual and combined additions of N and P in evergreen forests,the dominant vegetation type in southern China where the primary productivity is usually considered limited by *** assessment allowed us to quantitatively evaluate the effects of N and P additions alone and interactively on leaf P allocation and use *** addition(exacerbating P limitation)reduced the concentrations of leaf total P and different leaf P *** addition reduced the allocation to leaf metabolic P but increased the allocation to other fractions,while P addition showed opposite *** simultaneous additions of N and P showed an antagonistic(mutual suppression)effect on the concentrations of leaf P fractions,but an additive(summary)effect on the allocation proportions of leaf P *** results highlight the importance of strategies of leaf P fraction allocation in forest plants under changes in environmental nutrient ***,our study identified critical interactions associated with combined N and P inputs that affect leaf P fractions,thus aiding in predicting plant acclimation strategies in the context of intensifying and imbalanced anthropogenic nutrient inputs.

By combining experimental α-decay energies and half-lives, the α-particle preformation factor for nuclei around neutron magic numbers N of 126, 152, and 162 were extracted using the two-potential approach. The nuclei around the shell closure were more tightly bound than adjacent nuclei. Additionally, based on the WS4 mass model (Wang et al., Phys. Lett.B 734, 215 (2014)), we extended the two-potential approach to predict the α-decay half-lives of nuclei around N values of178 and 184 with Z of 119 and 120. We believe that our findings will serve as guidelines for future experimental studies.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone-setting therapy for the treatment of Tourette syndrome. METHODS: We randomly divided 600 patients at a ratio of 1∶1∶1 into three groups: group A(acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone setting therapy group), group B(acupuncture group), and group C(tiapride group). After two months of treatment, the Yale global tic severity scale(YGTSS) score reduction, improvement in social function impairment, clinical efficacy, and long-term efficacy in the three groups were compared. RESULTS: After treatment, in the analysis of YGTSS score reduction, social function impairment improvement, the clinical control rate, and long-term efficacy, the results were all Group A > Group B > Group C, with a statistically significant difference(P < 0.05). However, the total clinical efficacy of treatment in group A(94.9%) was not significantly different from that in group B(91.8%). Adverse reactions did not occur in groups A and B, and several adverse reactions occurred in 29%(n = 58) of the group C patients. CONCLUSION: Compared with traditional drug therapy, acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone setting therapy has better clinical and long-term efficacy. This treatment strategy can improve the social function of children and prevent adverse reactions to drugs.

GPU-Enabled Isogometric Topology Optimization with Bezier Element Stiffness Mapping

Due to the high-order B-spline basis functions utilized in isogeometric analysis(IGA)and the repeatedly updating global stiffness matrix of topology optimization,Isogeometric topology optimization(ITO)intrinsically suffers from the computationally demanding *** this work,we address the efficiency problem existing in the assembling stiffness matrix and sensitivity analysis using B˙ezier element stiffness *** Element-wise and Interaction-wise parallel computing frameworks for updating the global stiffness matrix are proposed for ITO with B˙ezier element stiffness mapping,which differs from these ones with the traditional Gaussian integrals *** the explicit stiffness computation formula derived from B˙ezier element stiffness mapping possesses a typical parallel structure,the presented GPU-enabled ITO method can greatly accelerate the computation speed while maintaining its high memory efficiency *** examples demonstrate threefold speedup:1)the assembling stiffness matrix is accelerated by 10×maximumly with the proposed GPU strategy;2)the solution efficiency of a sparse linear system is enhanced by up to 30×with Eigen replaced by AMGCL;3)the efficiency of sensitivity analysis is promoted by 100×with GPU ***,the proposed method is a promising way to enhance the numerical efficiency of ITO for both single-patch and multiple-patch design problems.
