Clinical characteristics of patients with Haff disease after eating crayfish

BACKGROUND: The study aimed to explore the clinical presentations, laboratory findings, treatments and prognosis of patients with Haff disease after eating crayfi sh. METHODS: Sixteen patients with Haff disease after eating crayfish were admitted to the Emergency Department of Beijing Chao-yang Hospital between June 2013 and August 2017. Clinical data was retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Alcohol consumption and exercise were found to be most commonly associated with the onset of rhabdomyolysis after consuming crayfi sh. Most patients were young adults and the symptoms mostly occurred within 24 hours of consumption of crayfi sh. Clinical symptoms included myalgia (100%), fatigue (87.5%), nausea (43.8%), dizziness (62.5%), chest distress (37.5%) and fever (18.8%). Also found after laboratory testing was elevations in the levels of creatine kinase (11,376±5,535 U/L), myoglobin (350±158 ng/mL), lactate dehydrogenase (6,539±3,180 U/L), alanine transaminase (174±71 U/L) and aspartate aminase (348±100 U/L). The incidence of renal dysfunction was low (6.25%), and all 16 patients had a good prognosis. CONCLUSION: Patients with Haff disease exhibited typical symptoms after consuming crayfish, and laboratory findings gave highly accurate diagnostic results. The development of rhabdomyolysis was considered to be associated with alcohol consumption and exercise, but further studies are needed to demonstrate its relationship with crayfi sh consumption. Compared with other causes of rhabdomyolysis, rhabdomyolysis after crayfi sh consumption has fewer complications and better prognosis.

Consumer heterogeneity and online vs. offline retail spatial competition

This paper develops a game-theoretic spatial model featuring consumer heterogeneity in online vs. offline retailers* spatial competition. We find that consumers1 browse-and-switch behavior intensifies the competition because both offline and online retailers' price and profit decline when the behavior occurs, but it is not necessarily a threat to offline retailers especially when the product relates more closely to experience. We consider six equilibrium seenarios for different combi nations of consumer behaviors when considering a hybrid retailer. The analysis taking consumer heterogeneity into consideration shows that the hybrid retailer operating both online and offline is not always the winner. Particularly, the business opportunity for the offline retailer lies in consumersz willingness to pay in store, and whether the retailer launches an online store depends on the type of products and services provided.

Mathematical Model for Electroslag Remelting Process

A mathematical model, including electromagnetic field equation, fluid flow equation, and temperature field equation, was established for the simulation of the electroslag remelting process. The distribution of temperature field was obtained by solving this model. The relationship between the local solidification time and the interdendritic spacing during the ingot solidification process was established, which has been regarded as a criterion for the evaluation of the quality of crystallization. For a crucible of 950 mm in diameter, the local solidification time is more than 1 h at the center of the ingot with the longest interdendritic spacing, whereas it is the shortest at the edge of the ingot according to the calculated results. The model can be used to understand the ESR process and to predict the ingot quality.

The grades of ultra-pure ferritic stainless steels, especially the grades used in automobile exhaust system, were reviewed. The dependence of properties on alloying elements, the refining facilities, and the mechanism of the reactions in steel melts were described in detail. Vacuum, strong stirring, and powder injection proved to be effective technologies in the melting of ultra-pure ferritic stainless steels. The application of the ferritic grades was also briefly introduced.

The newly discovered neutron halos in the excited states of nuclei 12B, 13C, and 209pb are studied by therelativistic mean-field theory. The calculated binding energies are very close to the experimental ones. The experimentally extracted root-mean-square radii of the last neutron with different occupations in nuclei are well reproduced bycalculations. New candidates for the neutron halos in excited states are predicted and are useful for further search ofneutron halos in the excited states of stable nuclei.

Fabrication of high nitrogen austenitic stainless steels with excellent mechanical and pitting corrosion properties

A series of high nitrogen austenitic stainless steels were successfully developed with a pressurized electroslag remelting furnace. Nitride additives and deoxidizer were packed into the stainless steel pipes, and then the stainless steel pipes were welded on the surface of an electrode with low nitrogen content to prepare a compound electrode. Using Si3N4 as a nitrogen alloying source, the silicon contents in the ingots were prone to be out of the specification range, the electric current fluctuated greatly and the surface qualities of the ingots were poor. The surface qualities of the ingots were improved with FeCrN as a nitrogen alloying source. The sound and compact macrostructure ingot with the maximum nitrogen content of 1.21wt% can be obtained. The 18Cr18Mn2Mo0.9N high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel exhibits high strength and good ductility at room temperature. The steel shows typical ductile-brittle transition behavior and excellent pitting corrosion resistance properties.

A network-aware error-resilient method using prioritized intra refresh for wireless video communications

We propose a novel prioritized intra refresh method for the wireless video *** proposed method considers the characteristics of the human visual system,the error-sensitivity of the bitstream,and the state of the time-varying wireless channel *** expected perceptual distortion model was used to adjust the intra refresh rate *** model consists of the perceptual weight map based on an attention model,the bit error probability map based on bitstream size,and the dynamic channel state information(CSI).Experimental results indicate that,compared with other intra refresh methods that consider only the content of the video or the CSI,the proposed method improves the average peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR) of the whole frame by about 0.5 dB,and improves the average PSNR of the attention-area by about 0.8 dB.

Modeling of flow and temperature distribution in electroslag remelting withdrawal process for fabricating large-scale slab ingots

Currently, the market demands for large-scale and high-quality slab ingots are increasing significantly. A novel electroslag remelting withdrawal （ESRW） process with two series-connected electrodes and a T- shaped mould was developed to produce large-scale and high-quality slab ingots. It is very difficult to ob- tain large slab ingots with good surface quality and high width-to-thickness ratio. And it is not efficient for improving the quality of slab ingots by using trial-and-error-based approaches because the ESRW mecha- nisms are very complex. Thus, a three-dimensional mathematical model was developed to determine the relationship between process parameters and physical phenomena during the ESRW process. The relation- ship between the temperature field of the ESRW process and the surface quality of slab ingots was estab- lished. A good agreement between the simulated and measured temperature fields of slab ingots was ob- tained. The results indicate that the maximum values of current density, electromagnetic force and Joule heat all occur at the electrode-slag interface between the two electrodes. It can be found that the flow is turbulent and the temperature distribution is uniform in the slag pool with the influences of buoyancy and electromagnetic force. The wrinkles in the narrow faces of slab ingots are caused by the relatively lower in- put power. Increasing the electrode width and reducing the curvature can significantly improve the surface quality of slab ingots.

Thickness evolution of commercial Li-ion pouch cells with siliconbased composite anodes and NCA cathodes

It is significant to monitor the thickness change of commercial Li-ion pouch cells that are assembled from Si-based electrodes and layered cathodes since the volume variation is critically linked with kinetic reaction mechanism and chemomechanical degradation. In this work, the single-point and full-field measurements are conducted on the thickness evolution of Si Ox/Cgraphite/lithium nickel-cobalt-aluminum oxide(Si Ox-G/NCA) batteries. It is found that an abnormal overshoot that has been rarely observed in the previous studies appears at the beginning of discharge, which is believed to be the combined results between the rapid expansion of NCA and the contraction of graphite related to the state of charge(SOC). Compared with the results of single-point measurement, the spatial displacement distribution obtained from three-dimensional(3D) scanning suggests the full-field thickness evolution of the entire cell scale, which is more feasible and efficient to provide full-field information for supporting pouch cell design and pack integration.
