Ob.ective: The aim of the work describ.d here was to evaluate the role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in response evaluation for unresectab.e advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with ty.osine kinase inhib.tors (TKIs) plus anti-programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) antib.dy.therapy. Methods: A prospective cohort of consecutive patients with HCC who received comb.ned TKI/anti-PD-1 antib.dy.treatment for unresectab.e HCC b.tween January.2022 and Octob.r 2022 was included in this study. The patients underwent unenhanced ultrasound (US) and CEUS examinations b.fore treatment and at follow-up. Changes in the largest diameters of the target tumor on unenhanced US and the largest diameters of the enhancing target tumors on CEUS were evaluated. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 with unenhanced US and magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomography.(MRI/CT) and modified RECIST (mRECIST) with CEUS and CEMRI/CT were used to assess treatment response. Results: A total of 24 HCC patients (23 men and 1 woman; mean age: 56.5 ± 8.5 y. b.rcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C, 62.5%; 29 intrahepatic target tumors) were studied. Calculations of degree of necrosis in the target tumors revealed no significant differences b.tween CEUS and CEMRI/CT (44.5 ± 36.2% vs. 45.3 ± 36.8%, p = 0.862). As for the differentiation of responders from non-responders, the agreement b.tween RECIST version 1.1 of unenhanced US and mRECIST-CEUS was poor (κ coefficient = 0.233). Meanwhile, there was a high degree of concordance b.tween mRECIST-CEUS and mRECIST-CEMRI/CT (κ coefficient = 0.812). Conclusion: CEUS proved to b. superior to b.seline US and is comparab.e to CEMRI/CT in defining treatment outcome for comb.ned TKI/anti-PD-1 antib.dy.therapy. © 2023 World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine & b.ology

Human fallopian tub.s (FTs) play.important roles in the whole reproductive process. FTs are the site for the final maturation of gametes, fertilization, transport of preimplantation emb.y.s, and early.emb.y.nic development b.fore entering the uterus. All these functions are critical in the estab.ishment of a successful pregnancy. When the emb.y. is in transit through the FT, the FT microenvironment changes through endocrine, paracrine, autocrine, and juxtacrine mechanisms which involve various hormones and b.oactive sub.tances mainly.from the neighb.ring cells. Therefore, the interactions b.tween the emb.y. and the FT may.b. the earliest emb.y.-maternal communications that are essential for the estab.ishment of pregnancy. This review critically.discusses the evidence of various hormonal and b.oactive mediated control of the microenvironment in the FTs during the earliest emb.y.-maternal communications. Moreover, we highlight existing gaps in the knowledge and the importance of exploring more of the phy.iology.of FTs which will hold the key.to producing high-quality.emb.y.s for patients seekingin vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.

Sy.chronized off-harmonic prob. laser with highly.variab.e pulse duration for laser-plasma interaction experiments

This paper presents the development and experimental utilization of a sy.chronized off-harmonic laser sy.tem designed as a prob. for ultra-intense laser±plasma interaction experiments. The sy.tem exhib.ts a novel seed-generation design,allowing for a variab.e pulse duration spanning over more than three orders of magnitude, from 3.45 picoseconds to 10 nanoseconds. This makes it suitab.e for various plasma diagnostics and visualization techniques. In a side-view configuration, the laser was employ.d for interferometry.and streaked shadowgraphy.of a laser-induced plasma while successfully.suppressing the self-emission b.ckground of the laser±plasma interaction, resulting in a signal-to-self-emission ratio of 110 for this setup. These properties enab.e the prob. to y.eld valuab.e insights into the plasma dy.amics and interactions at the PHELIX facility.and to b. deploy.d at various laser facilities due to its easy.to-implement design.

The wear profile analy.is,ob.ained b. different trib.meters,is essential to characterise the wear ***,most of the availab.e methods did not take the stress distrib.tion over the wear profile in consideration,which causes inaccurate *** this study.the wear profile of poly.er–metal contact,ob.ained b. b.ock-on-ring configuration under dry.sliding conditions,was analy.ed using finite element modelling(FEM)and experimental ***’s wear equation was integrated into a developed FORTRAN-UMESHMOTION code linked with Ab.qus software.A vary.ng wear coefficient(k)values covering b.th running-in and steady.state regions,and a range of applied loads involving b.th mild and severe wear regions were measured and implemented in the *** FEM was in good agreement with the *** model reproduced the stress distrib.tion profiles under variab.e testing conditions,while their values were affected b. the sliding direction and maximum wear depth(hmax).The largest area of the wear profile,exposed to the average contact stresses,is defined as the normal *** the critical zones were characterized b. high stress concentrations reaching up to 10 times of that at the normal *** wear profile was mapped to identify.the critical zone where the stress concentration is the key.point in this *** surface features were examined in different regions using scanning electron microscope(SEM).Ultimately.SEM analy.is showed severer damage features in the critical zone than that in the normal zone as proven b. ***,the literature data presented and considered the wear features the same at any.point of the wear *** this study.the normal zone was determined at a stress value of ab.ut 0.5 MPa,whereas the critical zone was at ab.ut 5.5 *** wear b.haviour of these two zones showed totally.different features from one another.
