AutoBPS-BIM:A toolkit to transfer BIM to BEM for load calculation and chiller design optimization

This study developed a rapid building modeling tool,AutoBPS-BIM,to transfer the building information model(BIM)to the building energy model(BEM)for load calculation and chiller design optimization.An eight-storey office building in Beijing,33.2 m high,67.2 m long and 50.4 m wide,was selected as a case study building.First,a module was developed to transfer BIM in IFC format into BEM in EnergyPlus.Variable air volume systems were selected for the air system,while water-cooled chillers and boilers were used for the central plant.The EnergyPlus model calculated the heating and cooling loads for each space as well as the energy consumption of the central plant.Moreover,a chiller optimization module was developed to select the optimal chiller design for minimizing energy consumption while maintaining thermal comfort.Fifteen available chillers were included,with capacities ranging from 471 kW to 1329 kW.The results showed that the cooling loads of the spaces ranged from 33 to 100 W/m^(2) with a median of 45 W/m^(2),and the heating load ranged from 37 to 70 W/m^(2) with a median of 52 W/m^(2).The central plant’s total cooling load under variable air volume systems was 1400 kW.Compared with the static load calculation method,the dynamic method reduced 33%of the chiller design capacity.When two chillers were used,different chiller combinations’annual cooling energy consumption ranged from 10.41 to 11.88,averaging 11.12 kWh/m^(2).The lowest energy consumption was 10.41 kWh/m^(2) when two chillers with 538 kW and 1076 kW each were selected.Selecting the proper chiller number with different capacities was critical to achieving lower energy consumption,which achieved 12.6%cooling system energy consumption reduction for the case study building.This study demonstrated that AutoBPS-BIM has a large potential in modeling BEM and optimizing chiller design.

Small-scale and decentralized production of H_(2)O_(2)via electrochemical reduction of oxygen is of great benefit,especially for sanitization,air and water purification,as well as for a variety of chemical processes.The development of low-cost and highperformance catalysts for this reaction remains a key challenge.Carbon-based materials have drawn substantial research efforts in recent years due to their advantageous properties,such as high chemical stability and high tunability in active sites and morphology.Deeper understanding of structure–activity relationships can guide the design of improved catalysts.We hypothesize that mass transport to active sites is of great importance,and herein we use carbon materials with unique flower-like superstructures to achieve high activity and selectivity for O2 reduction to H_(2)O_(2).The abundance of nitrogen active sites controlled by pyrolysis temperature resulted in high catalytic activity and selectivity for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).The flower superstructure showed higher performance than the spherical nanoparticles due to greater accessibility to the active sites.Chemical activation improves the catalysts’performances further,driving the production of H_(2)O_(2)to a record-setting rate of 816 mmol·gcat^(−1)·h^(−1)using a bulk electrolysis setup.This work demonstrates the development of a highly active catalyst for the sustainable production of H_(2)O_(2)through rational design and synthetic control.The understanding from this work provides further insight into the design of future carbon-based electrocatalysts.

Neogloboquadrina pachyderma(sinistral), the dominant planktonic foraminiferal species in the mid-to-high latitude oceans, represents a major component of local calcium carbonate(CaCO) production. However, the predominant factors,governing the calcification of this species and its potential response to the future marine environmental changes, are poorly understood. The present study utilized an improved cleaning method for the size-normalized weight(SNW) measurement to estimate the SNW of N. pachyderma(sin.) in surface sediments from the Amundsen Sea, the Ross Sea, and the Prydz Bay in the Antarctic Zone of the Southern Ocean. It was found that SNW of N. pachyderma(sin.) is not controlled by deep-water carbonate dissolution post-mortem, and can be therefore, used to reflect the degree of calcification. The comparison between N. pachyderma(sin.) SNW and environmental parameters(temperature, salinity, nutrient concentration, and carbonate system) in the calcification depth revealed that N. pachyderma(sin.) SNWs in the size ranges of 200–250, 250–300, and 300–355 μm are significantly and positively correlated with seawater temperature. Moreover, SNW would increase by ~30% per degree increase in temperature, thereby suggesting that the calcification of N. pachyderma(sin.) in the modern Antarctic Zone of the Southern Ocean is mainly controlled by temperature, rather than by other environmental parameters such as ocean acidification. Importantly, a potential increase in calcification of N. pachyderma(sin.) in the Antarctic Zone to produce CaCOwill release COinto the atmosphere. In turn, the future ocean warming will weaken the ocean carbon sink, thereby generating positive feedback for global warming.

The cable system of cable-supported structures usually bears high tension forces, and clip joints may fail to resist cable sliding in cases of earthquake excitations or sudden cable breaks. A analytical method that considers the dynamic cable sliding effect is proposed in this paper. Cable sliding behaviors and the resultant dynamic responses are solved by combining the vector form intrinsic finite element framework with cable force redistribution calculations that consider joint frictions. The cable sliding effect and the frictional tension loss are solved with the original length method that uses cable length and the original length relations. Then, the balanced tension distributions are calculated after frictional sliding. The proposed analytical method is achieved within MATLAB and applied to simulate the dynamic response of a cable-supported plane truss under seismic excitation and sudden cable break. During seismic excitations, the cable sliding behavior in the cable-supported truss have an averaging effect on the oscillation magnitudes, but it also magnifies the internal force response in the upper truss structure. The slidable cable joints can greatly reduce the ability of a cable system to resist sudden cable breaks, while strong friction resistances at the cable-strut joints can help retain internal forces.

Spiking neural P systems with anti-spikes （ASN P systems） are variant forms of spiking neural P systems, which are inspired by inhibitory impulses/spikes or inhibitory synapses. The typical feature of ASN P systems is when a neuron contains both spikes and anti-spikes, spikes and anti-spikes wil immediately annihilate each other in a maximal way. In this paper, a restricted variant of ASN P systems, cal ed ASN P systems without anni-hilating priority, is considered, where the annihilating rule is used as the standard rule, i.e., it is not obligatory to use in the neuron associated with both spikes and anti-spikes. If the annihilating rule is used in a neuron, the annihilation wil consume one time unit. As a result, such systems using two categories of spiking rules （identified by （a, a） and （a,a^-）） can achieve Turing completeness as number accepting devices.
