Superhydrophilic Polydopamine‑Modified Carbon‑Fiber Membrane with Rapid Seawater‑Transferring Ability for Constructing Efficient Hanging‑Model Evaporator

Solar-driven seawater desalination has attracted much attention for alleviating global freshwater shortage,but the practical application is often limited by complicated fabrication processes,unsatisfactory seawater-transferring and severe salt accu-mulation on the photothermal *** solve these problems,hydrophobic industrial-grade carbon fiber membrane(CFM)with good photoabsorption was surface-modified with polydopamine(PDA)to prepare superhydrophilic CFM@PDA for the construction of efficient hanging-model evaporators without salt *** coating of PDA on CFM is realized by simple self-polymerization of dopamine,and the as-prepared CFM@PDA exhibits high solar absorption effi-ciency of 96.7%,good photothermal effect and ***,when CFM@PDA is hanging between two water tanks(one contains seawater and the other is empty)in a flat hanging-model evaporator,it can transport seawater at a high rate(26.35 g/h)which is 3.6 times that(7.28 g/h)of commercial cotton *** simulated sunlight(1.0 kW m^(-2))irradiation,CFM@PDA shows a high evaporation rate of 1.79 kg m^(-2) h^(-1) with a solar evaporation efficiency of 92.6%.Even if NaCl solution with a high concentration(21.0 wt%)is used for the evaporation,the hanging CFM@PDA can retain a high evaporation rate(~1.80 kg m^(-2) h^(-1))without salt accumulation during the long-time test(8 h),which is significantly better than that of the tradition floating ***,this study not only demonstrates the simple preparation of super-hydrophilic CFM@PDA,but also promotes the further practical applications of hanging-model evaporators for continuous salt-free desalination.

Compact terahertz(THz)functional devices are greatly sought after for high-speed wireless communication,biochemical sensing,and non-destructive ***,controlled THz generation,along with transport and detection,has remained a challenge especially for chip-scale devices due to low-coupling efficiency and unavoidable absorption ***,based on the topological protection of electromagnetic waves,we demonstrate nonlinear generation and topologically tuned confinement of THz waves in an engineered lithium niobate chip forming a wedge-shaped Su-Schrieffer-Heeger *** measured band structures provide direct visualization of the THz localization in the momentum space,while robustness of the confined mode against chiral perturbations is also analyzed and compared for both topologically trivial and nontrivial *** topological control of THz waves may bring about new possibilities in the realization of THz integrated circuits,promising for advanced photonic applications.

On-demand assembly of polymeric nanoparticles for longer-blood-circulation and disassembly in tumor for boosting sonodynamic therapy

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is one of the promising strategies for tumor therapy, but its application is usually hindered by fast clearance in blood-circulation, abnormal tumor microenvironment, and inefficient generation of reactive oxygen species. To solve these problems, we proposed an on-demand assembly-disassembly strategy, where the assembly is favorable for longer-blood-circulation and then the disassembly in tumor is favorable for boosting SDT. Hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) as the model of organic sonosensitizers were conjugated with hyaluronic acid (HA). Then HA-HMME was mixed with catalase (CAT) and assembled into polymeric nanoparticles (CAT@HA-HMME NPs) with size of ~80 nm. CAT@HA-HMME NPs exhibit good biocompatibility and a longer blood half-time (t1/2 = 4.17 h) which is obviously longer than that (~0.82 h) of HMME molecules. After HA receptor-mediated endocytosis of cancer cells, CAT@HA-HMME NPs can be cleaved by endogenous hyaluronidase, resulting in the on-demand disassembly in tumor to release HA-HMME molecules and CAT. The CAT catalyzes the endogenous H_(2)O_(2) into O_(2) to relieve the hypoxic microenvironment, and the released HA-HMME exhibits a higher ROS generation ability, greatly boosting SDT for the inhibition of tumor growth. Therefore, the on-demand assembly-disassembly strategy may provide some insight in the design and development of nanoagents for tumor therapy.

Scattering of shear waves by an elliptical cavity in a radially inhomogeneous isotropic medium

Complex function and general conformal mapping methods are used to investigate the scattering of elastic shear waves by an elliptical cylindrical cavity in a radially inhomogeneous medium. The conformal mappings are introduced to solve scattering by an arbitrary cavity for the Helmholtz equation with variable coefficient through the transformed standard Helmholtz equation with a circular cavity. The medium density depends on the distance from the origin with a power-law variation and the shear elastic modulus is constant. The complex-value displacements and stresses of the *** medium are explicitly obtained and the distributions of the dynamic stress for the case of an elliptical cavity are discussed. The accuracy of the present approach is verified by comparing the present solution results with the available published data. Numerical results demonstrate that the wave number, inhomogeneous parameters and different values of aspect ratio have significant influence on the dynamic stress concentration factors around the elliptical cavity.

Probing the interseismic locking state of the Xianshuihe fault based on a viscoelastic deformation model

The interseismic locking state of tectonic faults is essential for regional seismic hazard ***,it is challenging to obtain this parameter reliably due to the weak deformation and complex model *** better probe the fault locking state,more reliable physical models and well-covered observations are *** we investigate the locking state of the Xianshuihe fault based on a new-developed viscoelastic deformation ***,we combine GPS velocities from 13 new near-field stations and existing stations in this region to improve the spatial *** to the theoretical predictions,our results indicate that the elastic model will clearly overestimate the fault locking depth and seismic moment accumulation rate,and the fault slip rate inferred from the elastic model is slightly lower than that from the viscoelastic *** on the locking distribution inferred from the viscoelastic model,we identify four potential asperities on the Xianshuihe *** importantly,we find a clear spatial correlation between the fault locking distribution and the rupture extent of historical earthquakes,which indicates that the fault locking state may control the rupture extent and thus the magnitude of *** addition,our results show that the 2022 M6.8 Luding earthquake only ruptured the south part of a potential asperity,and the accumulated energy in the northern unruptured area is equivalent to an Mw6.9 earthquake,where the seismic hazard deserves special attention.

Influence of Forming Pressure on Properties of Yttrium Iron Garnet Ferrite

The Ca-Sn co-substituted yttrium iron garnet(YIG)ferrite materials were prepared by the traditional oxide solid-state reaction method,and the influence of forming pressure on the density,morphology and magnetic properties of YIG ferrite was systematically *** results show that the density of YIG ferrite green body increases with the increase of the forming pressure,while the density of its sintered body shows a trend of first increasing and then *** the same time,the ferromagnetic resonance(FMR)linewidth of YIG sample first decreases and then ***,the effects of forming pressure on the saturation magnetization,remanence and coercivity of the sample can be *** study proves that the density and FMR linewidth of YIG materials can be controlled by regulating the forming pressure and the best performance is obtained for the sample prepared under a forming pressure of 5 MPa.

Synthesis of GaPO_4-GaN Coaxial Nanowires

GaPO4-GaN coaxial nanowires were synthesized by two-step chemical vapor deposition method using H2 and NH3 as reactant gas in turn at 950℃. The morphology and microstructures of the GaPO4-GaN coaxial nanowires were studied by scanning elctron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）. The nanowires have an average diameter of -15 nm and length of hundreds of nanometers. The core is GaPO4 crystal and the outer shell is GaN crystal. The formation mechanism was discussed and the key factors controlling the growth are temperature and the concentration of reactant gases. These coaxial nanowires may have potential application for piezoluminescence nano-devices, and the two-step synthetic technique could be used to grow rationally other 1D GaN-based nanowire heterostructures.

Effects of biodegradation on diamondoid distribution in crude oils from the Bongor Basin,Chad

The sensitivity of biodegradation on diamondoids was investigated using a series of biodegraded oil samples from the Ronier tectonic unit of Bongor Basin,*** results suggest that diamondoids,including adamantanes(As)and diamantanes(Ds),are relatively resistant to biodegradation and obvious biodegradation was observed in oils with a Peters-Moldowan(PM)biodegradation rank of 6 or ***,the sensibility of biodegradation on diamondoids is generally similar to hopanes and regular *** biodegradation evolves,the changes in concentration and components of diamondoids show that the biodegradation process is selective and *** significant increase of MD/MA and DMD/DMA for oils with a PM ranking 6t indicates that diamantanes are generally more resistant to biodegradation than *** similar trends of DMA/MA,EA/MA,MD/D,DMD/MD and other relevant indexes,show that higher alkylation homologs are more resistant to *** commonly used diamondoid ratios,such as MAI,EAI,MDI and DMID-1,are obviously affected by biodegradation at the stage of high-level biodegradation,which may indicate that these ratios should be used with caution in case of severely degraded oils.
