Casual associations between blood metabolites and colon cancer

Targeting of circulating hepatocellular carcinoma cells to prevent postoperative recurrence and metastasis

Currently,the main treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)involves the surgical removal of tumors or liver ***,these treatments are often not completely curative,as they are associated with a risk for postoperative recurrence and *** tumor cells(CTCs)are increasingly recognized as the main source for recurrence and metastasis after radical hepatectomies are *** studies have demonstrated the association between the presence of either pre-or postoperative CTCs and an increased risk for HCC *** improve the therapeutic outcome of HCC,a personalized,comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach should be considered,involving the application of appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic measures targeting HCC CTCs in different stages throughout the course of *** article proposes some HCC CTC-based strategies for the treatment of HCC,including the monitoring of HCC CTCs before,during and after radical hepatectomy,therapeutic targeting of HCC CTCs,prevention of the generation and colonization of CTCs,as well as the use of CTC indexes for the selection of indications,prediction of prognoses,and planning of individualized therapeutic *** and technological development of therapies targeting CTCs,as well as their translation into clinical practice,will help to effectively reduce postoperative recurrence and metastasis,and significantly prolong the survival of HCC patients.

Effects of rafting on the meso deformation and fracture behaviour of a Ni-based single crystal superalloy at room temperature: In-situ observation and simulation

Microstructural rafting of Ni-based single-crystal(SC) superalloys is inevitable at elevated temperatures during long-term service with mechanical loading, which significantly affects the mechanical behaviour of the material. In this study, the effects of rafting on the mesodeformation and fracture behaviour of a Ni-based SC superalloy under cyclic and tensile loads were investigated using in situ scanning electron microscopy(SEM), digital image correlation(DIC), and crystal plasticity finite element method(CP-FEM) simulations. The results indicated that the tensile strength decreased significantly in the rafted specimens. In the cyclic tests, both the virgin and rafted specimens showed an increase in the maximum shear strain with cycle number. The interaction of cross-slip bands was captured by in situ SEM-DIC around the micro-notch of the virgin specimens during the tensile test, while a more homogeneous local deformation field was observed in the rafting specimens. In addition,the fracture behaviour was strongly influenced by the rafting morphology. The crack exhibited instantaneous and long-range fracture features along the octahedral plane as it propagated in the rafting specimen, whereas it deflected over a short distance between the crystallographic planes at an early stage in the virgin specimen, which is consistent with the CP-FEM ***, the CP-FEM results for the crack initiation direction on(111) dominant slip plane were consistent with the in situ SEM observations.

Pressure transient characteristics of non-uniform conductivity fractured wells in viscoelasticity polymer flooding based on oil-water two-phase flow

Polymer flooding in fractured wells has been extensively applied in oilfields to enhance oil *** contrast to water,polymer solution exhibits non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior such as effects of shear thinning and shear thickening,polymer convection,diffusion,adsorption retention,inaccessible pore volume and reduced effective ***,the flux density and fracture conductivity along the hydraulic fracture are generally non-uniform due to the effects of pressure distribution,formation damage,and proppant *** this paper,we present an oil-water two-phase flow model that captures these complex non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior,and non-uniform fracture characteristics in fractured polymer *** hydraulic fracture is firstly divided into two parts:high-conductivity fracture near the wellbore and low-conductivity fracture in the far-wellbore section.A hybrid grid system,including perpendicular bisection(PEBI)and Cartesian grid,is applied to discrete the partial differential flow equations,and the local grid refinement method is applied in the near-wellbore region to accurately calculate the pressure distribution and shear rate of polymer *** combination of polymer behavior characterizations and numerical flow simulations are applied,resulting in the calculation for the distribution of water saturation,polymer concentration and reservoir *** with the polymer flooding well with uniform fracture conductivity,this non-uniform fracture conductivity model exhibits the larger pressure difference,and the shorter bilinear flow period due to the decrease of fracture flow ability in the far-wellbore *** field case of the fall-off test demonstrates that the proposed method characterizes fracture characteristics more accurately,and yields fracture half-lengths that better match engineering reality,enabling a quantitative segmented characterization of the near-wellbore section with high fracture conductivity and th

Unveiling the Re,Cr,and I diffusion in saturated compacted bentonite using machine-learning methods

The safety assessment of high-level radioactive waste repositories requires a high predictive accuracy for radionuclide diffusion and a comprehensive understanding of the diffusion *** this study,a through-diffusion method and six machine-learning methods were employed to investigate the diffusion of ReO_(4)^(−),HCrO_(4)^(−),and I−in saturated compacted bentonite under different salinities and compacted dry *** machine-learning models were trained using two *** dataset contained six input features and 293 instances obtained from the diffusion database system of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency(JAEA-DDB)and 15 *** other dataset,comprising 15,000 pseudo-instances,was produced using a multi-porosity model and contained eight input *** results indicate that the former dataset yielded a higher predictive accuracy than the *** gradient-boosting exhibited a higher prediction accuracy(R2=0.92)and lower error(MSE=0.01)than the other machine-learning *** addition,Shapley Additive Explanations,Feature Importance,and Partial Dependence Plot analysis results indicate that the rock capacity factor and compacted dry density had the two most significant effects on predicting the effective diffusion coefficient,thereby offering valuable insights.

Combustion mechanism of benzene in iron ore sintering process:experimental and simulation

Benzene is a typical component of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in the iron ore sintering flue *** combustion behavior of benzene directly affects the emission of VOCs in iron ore sintering *** effects of temperature,benzene,and oxygen concentrations on the conversion ratio of benzene were investigated by experiments and numerical *** experiments were carried out in a tube reactor at temperatures of 773-1098 K,benzene concentrations of 0.01-0.03 vol.%,and oxygen concentrations of 10-21 vol.%.The numerical simulation was performed with the plug flow model in the CHEMKIN program based on a kinetic model that consists of 132 chemical species and 772 elementary step-like *** experimental results reveal that increasing the temperature and benzene concentration could signifi-cantly promote benzene *** is attributed to the increase in the reaction rates of all steps in the pathway for forming CO_(2)and H_(2)*** addition,due to the large equivalent ratio of oxygen to benzene,the conversion ratio of benzene remained constant at different oxygen *** simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results and indicated that six elementary reactions dominated the formations of CO_(2)and H_(2)*** oxidations of C_(6)H_(5)O,CO,and C_(5)H_(4)O intermediates to CO_(2)were the limiting steps in the reaction pathways.

Surrogate-assisted differential evolution using manifold learning-based sampling for highdimensional expensive constrained optimization problems

To address the challenges of high-dimensional constrained optimization problems with expensive simulation models,a Surrogate-Assisted Differential Evolution using Manifold Learning-based Sampling(SADE-MLS)is *** SADE-MLS,differential evolution operators are executed to generate numerous high-dimensional candidate *** alleviate the curse of dimensionality,a Manifold Learning-based Sampling(MLS)mechanism is developed to explore the high-dimensional design space *** MLS,the intrinsic dimensionality of the candidate points is determined by a maximum likelihood ***,the candidate points are mapped into a low-dimensional space using the dimensionality reduction technique,which can avoid significant information loss during dimensionality ***,Kriging surrogates are constructed in the low-dimensional space to predict the responses of the mapped candidate *** candidate points with high constrained expected improvement values are selected for global ***,the local search process assisted by radial basis function and differential evolution is performed to exploit the design space *** numerical benchmarks are tested to compare SADE-MLS with other ***,SADE-MLS is successfully applied to a solid rocket motor multidisciplinary optimization problem and a re-entry vehicle aerodynamic optimization problem,with the total impulse and lift to drag ratio being increased by 32.7%and 35.5%,*** optimization results demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed method in real engineering practices.

Linear Viscoelasticity of ABA-type Vitrimer Based on Dioxaborolane Metathesis

In this study, we synthesized a series of ABA-type vitrimers by crosslinking the short A moieties of precursors with a bifunctional crosslinker and evaporating the small molecular byproduct. The vitrimer samples thus prepared exhibit linear viscoelasticity dependent on the length of A moiety as well as the content of the crosslinks. When the average number of A monomers per end moiety m=1.1, the crosslinker can only extend the chain but not crosslink the chain. When m becomes 2.8 or higher, introducing a crosslinker first leads to the gelation, whereas excess in crosslinker molecules leads opening of the crosslinking sites and accordingly reentry into the sol regime. Surprisingly, a further increase in the length of the A moieties increases the relaxation time much weaker than the exponential increase seen for the physically crosslinked ABAtype ionomers. We attribute this difference to the distinct relaxation mechanisms:the relaxation of the vitrimer samples is based on relatively independent exchange reactions, which contrasts with the ABA-type ionomers that relax through the collective hopping of connected ionic groups from one ion aggregate to another.
