Unveiling an ancient whole-genome duplication event in Stentor,the model unicellular eukaryotes

Whole-genome duplication(WGD) events are widespread across eukaryotes and have played a significant role in moulding the genetic architectures of diverse organisms. In the present study, the newly sequenced genome of a giant ciliated protist, Stentor roeselii, provides an opportunity for the analysis of the collinearity and retention of reciprocal best-hit genes between two Stentor species. As a main result, we have unveiled a previously undetected ancient WGD event shaping the genome of its congener, Stentor coeruleus, a model protist used in cytological and evolutionary studies. Genomes of two congeners, S. coeruleus and S. roeselii, are compared and analyzed, revealing that:(i)the former exhibits a much higher retention rate of colinear-gene pairs(28%) than does S. roeselii, and in S. coeruleus, 75% of genes that have a RBH hit in S. roeselii, have paralogs with high amino-acid identity, consistent with a WGD event in the lineage leading to S. coeruleus;(ii) the S. roeselii genome possesses extremely short intergenic regions, implying that the lengths of intergenic regions are under strong selection;(iii) the unique characteristics of introns may have been shaped in the common ancestor of heterotrichs;(iv) gene families that play a role in activities of multiple protein kinases and voltage-gated ion channels expanded rapidly in the ancestor of both taxa, possibly relating to the remarkable regenerative ability in Stentor. This study offers new insights into the evolutionary dynamics of ciliate genomes,with implications for understanding of the processes underlying the evolution of genomic complexity.

The remarkably high theoretical energy densities of Li–O_(2) batteries have triggered tremendous efforts for next-generation conversion *** efficient oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction(ORR/OER)bifunctional catalysts and revealing their internal structure-property relationships are crucial in developing high-performance Li–O_(2) ***,we have prepared a nanoflower-like Ni_(5)P_(4)@NiSe_(2) heterostructure and employed it as a cathode catalyst for Li–O_(2) *** expected,the three-dimensional biphasic Ni_(5)P_(4)@NiSe_(2) nanoflowers facilitated the exposure of adequate active moieties and provide sufficient space to store more discharge ***,the strong electron redistribution between Ni_(5)P_(4) and NiSe_(2) heterojunctions could result in the built-in electric fields,thus greatly facilitating the ORR/OER *** on the above merits,the Ni_(5)P_(4)@NiSe_(2) heterostructure catalyst improved the catalytic performance of Li–O_(2) batteries and holds great promise in realizing their practical applications as well as inspiration for the design of other catalytic materials.

Developing excellent cathode catalysts with superior catalytic activities is essential for the practical application of aprotic lithium-oxygen batteries(LOBs).Herein,we successfully synthesized nitrogen-doped hollow mesoporous carbon spheres encapsulated with molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))nanosheets as the cathode catalyst for rechargeable LOBs,and the relationship between the battery performance and structural characteristics was intensively *** found that the synergistic effect of the nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon and MoS_(2)nanosheets endows superior electrocatalytic activities to the composite *** the one hand,the nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon could enable fast charge transfer and effectively accommodate more discharging products in the composite *** the other hand,the thin MoS_(2)nanosheets could promote mass transportation to facilitate the revisable formation and decomposition of the Li2O2 during oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction,and the side reactions were also prevented,apparently due to their full coverage on the composite *** a result,the catalytic cathode loaded with 2H-MoS_(2)-modified nitrogen-doped hollow mesoporous carbon spheres exhibited excellent electrochemical performance in terms of large discharge-/charge-specific capacities with low overpotentials and extended cycling life,and they hold great promise for acting as the cathode catalyst for high-performance LOBs.

Molecular Analysis of the Huntington's Disease with Expanded CAG Trinucleotide Repeat in Chinese

The polymorphic CAG repeats in the IT15 gene in Chinese normal and Huntington’s dis-ease(HD)chromosomes were determined by using nested PCR and denaturing polyacry-lamide gel electrophoretic autoradiography as well as direct sequencing analysis.A total of40 normal individuals and 122 members of 13 unrelated HD families originating from Shang-hai,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Anhui,Shandong,Guangdong and Henan,respectively,were in-volved in this *** results showed that the(CAG)n repeat numbers in 270 normal al-leles ranged from 13 to 26 but most in 16;while in 54 HD alleles,the CAG repeats from 40to 94,with an unstable inheritance of expanded repeats in some *** was no over-lap between the normal and affected ***,the presymptomatic diagnosis in103 family members at risk for HD disclosed that 35 individuals had HD alleles,which were-in accordance with the pedigree analysis and clinical *** these results indicatedthat the dynamic mutation in IT15 gene was responsible for the genetic defect in the ChineseHD patients and that a correlation existed between the numbers of(CAG)n repeat and theonset age of the ***-of these provide valuable data for HD molecular diagnosis,ge-netic counselling and genetic health.

伴随着政府转型和社会力量有序发展,社会组织成为参与突发事件应急管理不可或缺的新生力量,其应急协同能力成为政府部门管理社会组织的一个关键问题。基于当前我国社会组织参与应急救援的现实情况、中国国情和社会组织本身的独特性,客观地分析了应急志愿服务组织功能及其影响因素,提出了应急志愿服务组织应急协同能力指标体系,建立了相应的评估模型,并以北京市应急志愿服务总队为研究实例进行了评估验证。研究结果为科学认识社会组织应急协同能力提供了一种理论方法和量化指标。

Recently,the eutectic high-entropy alloy(EHEA),AlCoCrFeNi_(2.1),can reach a good balance of strength and *** dual-phase alloy exhibits a eutectic lamellar microstructure with large numbers of ***,the role of the interfaces in plastic deformation have not been revealed *** the present work,the orientation relationship(OR)of the interfaces has been clarified as the Kurdjumov-Sachs(KS)interfaces presenting〈111〉_(B2) 〈110〉_(FCC)and {110} _(B2){111}_(FCC) independent of their *** exist three kinds of interfaces in the EHEA,namely,The dominating interface and the secondary interface are both non-slip planes and atomistic-scale faceted,facilitating the nucleation and slip transmission of the *** formation mechanism of the preferred interfaces is revealed using the atomistic geometrical analysis according to the criteria of the low interfacial energy based on the coincidence-site lattice(CSL)*** particular,the ductility of the dual-phase alloy originates from the KS interface-induced slip continuity across interfaces,which provides a high slip-transfer geometric ***,the strengthening effect can be attributed to the interface resistance for the dislocation transmission due to the mismatches of the moduli and lattice parameters at the interfaces.

After coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),previously known as pneumonia of unknown etiology(PUE)and 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV),was first discovered in Wuhan City,Hubei Province,the Chinese government took measures to stop the spread of the epidemic nationwide and interrupted local transmission in China(1–2).Although there have been several localized outbreaks that were caused by overseas importation of the virus—including Heilongjiang,Jilin,Beijing,Liaoning,and other provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)—these outbreaks have been stopped within two to four weeks and were limited in scope to less than ten cases or a few hundred cases for each *** the COVID-19 pandemic still uncontrolled globally,the threat of importing the virus continues unabated and still threatens China’s population,virtually all of which is susceptible.
