Influence of tree species on soil microbial residue accumulation and distribution among soil aggregates in subtropical plantations of China

Background Microbial residues are significant contributors to stable soil organic carbon(SOC).Soil aggregates effectively protect microbial residues against decomposition;thus,microbial residue accumulation and distribution among soil aggregates determine long-term SOC ***,how tree species influence accumulation and distribution of soil microbial residues remains largely unknown,hindering the chances to develop policies for SOC ***,we investigated microbial residue accumulation and distribution in soil aggregates under four subtropical tree species(Cunninghamia lanceolata,Pinus massoniana,Michelia macclurei,and Schima superba)after 29 years of *** Accumulation of microbial residues in the 0-10 cm soil layer was 13.8-26.7%higher under *** than that under the other tree species.A structural equation model revealed that tree species affected the accumulation of microbial residues directly by altering fungal ***,tree species significantly affected microbial residue distribution and contribution to SOC in the top 20 cm *** particular,microbial residue distribution was 17.2-33.4%lower in large macro-aggregates(LMA)but 60.1-140.7%higher in micro-aggregates(MA)under *** than that under the other species in the 0-10 cm soil layer,and 14.3-19.0%lower in LMA but 43-52.1%higher in MA under *** than that under *** and *** in the 10-20 cm soil ***,the contribution of microbial residues to SOC was 44.4-47.5%higher under *** than under the other tree *** findings suggest a higher stability of microbial residues under *** than that under the other studied tree *** Our results demonstrate that tree species influence long-term microbial persistence in forest soils by affecting accumulation and stabilization of microbial residues.

Background:Inputs of above-and belowground litter into forest soils are changing at an unprecedented rate due to continuing human disturbances and climate *** drive the soil carbon(C)cycle,but the roles of above-and belowground litter in regulating the soil microbial community have not been evaluated at a global ***:Here,we conducted a meta-analysis based on 68 aboveground litter removal and root exclusion studies across forest ecosystems to quantify the roles of above-and belowground litter on soil microbial community and compare their relative ***:Aboveground litter removal significantly declined soil microbial biomass by 4.9%but root exclusion inhibited it stronger,up to 11.7%.Moreover,the aboveground litter removal significantly raised fungi by 10.1%without altering bacteria,leading to a 46.7%increase in the fungi-to-bacteria(F/B)***,root exclusion significantly decreased the fungi by 26.2%but increased the bacteria by 5.7%,causing a 13.3%decrease in the F/B ***,root exclusion significantly inhibited arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi,ectomycorrhizal fungi,and actinomycetes by 22.9%,43.8%,and 7.9%,*** negative effects of aboveground litter removal on microbial biomass increased with mean annual temperature and precipitation,whereas that of root exclusion on microbial biomass did not change with climatic factors but amplified with treatment *** importantly,greater effects of root exclusion on microbial biomass than aboveground litter removal were consistent across diverse forest biomes(expect boreal forests)and ***:These data provide a global evidence that root litter inputs exert a larger control on microbial biomass than aboveground litter inputs in forest *** study also highlights that changes in above-and belowground litter inputs could alter soil C stability differently by shifting the microbial community structure in the opposite direction.T

Para-xylene was chosen as the probe molecule to study adsorption thermodynamics and diffusion kinetics on NaY zeolite and composite structured NaY zeolite synthesized by in-situ crystallization from kaolin microsphere(designated as Na Y/kaolin composites) separately, using a high precision intelligent gravimetric analyzer(IGA). The adsorption isotherms showed normal Langmuir type-Ⅰ behaviors. The increased adsorption heat with an increasing p-xylene coverage supported a mechanism of phase transition, diffusion and re-arrangement of p-xylene molecules during the adsorption process. The rearrangement seemed to be most pronounced at an adsorption loading of 2.13 and 2.29 mmol/g for Na Y zeolite and Na Y/kaolin composites respectively. Compared with Na Y zeolite, a 2—3 times higher in the diffusion coefficient of p-xylene was observed on Na Y/kaolin composites when the pressure was more than 50 Pa. Temperature-programmed desorption(TPD) of p-xylene on two samples from room temperature to 450 ℃ at a special loading has also been investigated by IGA. Results showed only single desorption peak appeared for Na Y zeolite, indicating that adsorption can only occur in the super-cage structure. Comparably, there were two different peaks for in-situ synthesized Na Y zeolite, corresponding to the two thermo desorption processes in both super-cage structure and the channels provided by kaolin, *** words:

Selective Adsorption of Sulfur Compounds in Model Gasoline Containing Olefins by Modified Zeolites

The effects of olefins were quantified by measuring the decreased amount of thiophenes removed by modified zeolites with an increasing olefin concentration in model fuels （300 ppm） via fixed-bed adsorption technique at room temperature and atmosphere pressure. The influence of olefins on adsorptive desulfurization of model fuel had been investigated by FT-IR techniques, which revealed that the protons in the zeolites were the sites responsible for the adsorption of olefins. On the CeY zeolite, in the presence of strong hydroxyl species in the zeolites, the adsorbed olefin compounds can attach to the protons molecularly via electrophilic interaction and undergo the opening of the C=C bonds depending on the acidity of the zeolites. The reduced desulfurization performance of CeY zeolite was attributed to the direct occupation of the absorbent＇s active sites by olefins. In contrast to the CeY zeolite, the NiY zeolites were unable to react directly with pure olefins. However the sulfur compounds and olefins adsorbed on the protons may subsequently undergo olefin alkylation reactions, which can block the zeolite pores and then prevent sulfide molecules from having access to super-cages to contact with the metal cations. This work demonstrates also that the NiY zeolites exhibit excellent performance for selective adsorption desulfurization of model fuel containing olefin compounds.

Background:Litter traits critically affect litter decomposition from local to global ***,our understanding of the temporal dynamics of litter trait-decomposition linkages,especially their dependence on plant functional type remains ***:We decomposed the leaf litter of 203 tree species that belong to two different functional types(deciduous and evergreen)for 2 years in a subtropical forest in *** Weibull residence model was used to describe the different stages of litter decomposition by calculating the time to 10%,25%and 50%mass loss(Weibull t_(1/10),t_(1/4),and t_(1/2)respectively)and litter mean residence time(Weibull MRT).The resulting model parameters were used to explore the control of litter traits(e.g.,N,P,condensed tannins and tensile strength)over leaf litter decomposition across different decomposition ***:The litter traits we measured had lower explanatory power for the early stages(Weibull t_(1/10)and t_(1/4))than for the later stages(Weibull t_(1/2)and MRT)of *** relative importance of different types of litter traits in influencing decomposition changed dramatically during decomposition,with physical traits exerting predominant control for the stages of Weibull t_(1/10)and MRT and nutrient-related traits for the stages of Weibull t_(1/4),and t_(1/2).Moreover,we found that litter decomposition of the early three stages(Weibull t_(1/10),t_(1/4),and t_(1/2))of the two functional types was controlled by different types of litter traits;that is,the litter decomposition rates of deciduous species were predominately controlled by nutrient-related traits,while the litter decomposition rates of evergreen species were mainly controlled by carbon-related ***:This study suggests that litter trait-decomposition linkages vary with decomposition stages and are strongly mediated by plant functional type,highlighting the necessity to consider their temporal dynamics and plant functional types for impr

Integrins are a family of transmembrane receptors that connect the extracellular matrix and actin skeleton, which mediate cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and gene transcription. As a bi-directional signaling molecule, integrins can modulate many aspects of tumorigenesis, including tumor growth, invasion, angiogenesis, metastasis, and therapeutic resistance. Therefore, integrins have a great potential as antitumor therapeutic targets. In this review, we summarize the recent reports of integrins in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), focusing on the abnormal expression, activation, and signaling of integrins in cancer cells as well as their roles in other cells in the tumor microenvironment. We also discuss the regulation and functions of integrins in hepatitis B virus-related HCC. Finally, we update the clinical and preclinical studies of integrin-related drugs in the treatment of HCC.

Investigation on Modification of NaY Zeolite and Its Behaviors in Selective Adsorptive Desulfurization of FCC gasoline

NaY zeolite was modified with oxalic acid, and Ce(IV)Y(1) zeolite was obtained via liquid phase ion exchange between the modified NaY zeolite and cerium nitrate. The Ce(IV)Y(2) zeolite was obtained via liquid phase ion exchange between NaY zeolite and cerium nitrate. The performance of two Y zeolites [Ce(IV)Y(1) and Ce(IV)Y(2)] was compared through static selective adsorptive desulfurization of FCC gasoline at room temperature and normal pressure. The sulfur compounds and contents of the FCC gasoline were analyzed by microcoulometry and GC-SCD chromatogram. The results showed that the effect of adsorptive desulfurization of FCC gasoline achieved by Ce(IV)Y(1) zeolite was better than that of Ce(IV)Y(2) zeolite. The rate for adsorptive desulfurization of FCC gasoline by Ce(IV)Y(1) zeolite and Ce(IV)Y(2) zeolite was 85.0% and 62.4%, respectively. The Ce(IV)Y(1) zeolite could adsorb DMTs, which could not be adsorbed by Ce(IV)Y(2) zeolite. The rate of regeneration of extruded Ce(IV)Y(1)zeolite was 95.5%.
