A new heuristic for task scheduling in heterogeneous computing environment

Heterogeneous computing (HC) environment utilizes diverse resources with different computational capabilities to solve computing-intensive applications having diverse computational requirements and constraints. The task assignment problem in HC environment can be formally defined as for a given set of tasks and machines, assigning tasks to machines to achieve the minimum makespan. In this paper we propose a new task scheduling heuristic, high standard deviation first (HSTDF), which considers the standard deviation of the expected execution time of a task as a selection criterion. Standard deviation of the ex- pected execution time of a task represents the amount of variation in task execution time on different machines. Our conclusion is that tasks having high standard deviation must be assigned first for scheduling. A large number of experiments were carried out to check the effectiveness of the proposed heuristic in different scenarios, and the comparison with the existing heuristics (Max-min, Sufferage, Segmented Min-average, Segmented Min-min, and Segmented Max-min) clearly reveals that the proposed heuristic outperforms all existing heuristics in terms of average makespan.

High-pressure chemistry has provided a huge boost to the development of scientific ***-induced emission(PIE)in halide perovskites is gradually showing its unique charm in both pressure sensing and optoelectronic device ***,the PIE retention of halide perovskites under ambient conditions is of great commercial ***,we mainly focus on the potential applications of PIE and PIE retention in metal halide perovskites for scintillators and solid-state *** on the performance requirements of scintillator and single-component white light-emitting diodes(WLEDs),the significance of PIE and PIE retention is critically clarified,aiming to design and synthesize materials used for high-performance optoelectronic *** perspective not only demonstrates promising applications of PIE in the fields of scintillators and WLEDs,but also provides potential applications in display imaging and anti-counterfeiting of PIE ***,solving the scientific disputes that exist under ambient conditions is also simply discussed as an outlook by introducing high-pressure dimension to produce PIE.

Extracellular matrix(ECM)stiffening is a typical characteristic of cartilage aging,which is a quintessential feature of knee osteoarthritis(KOA).However,little is known about how ECM stiffening affects chondrocytes and other molecules *** study mimicked the physiological and pathological stiffness of human cartilage using polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)*** demonstrated that epigenetic Parkin regulation by histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3)represents a new mechanosensitive mechanism by which the stiffness matrix affected chondrocyte *** found that ECM stiffening accelerated cultured chondrocyte senescence in vitro,while the stiffness ECM downregulated HDAC3,prompting Parkin acetylation to activate excessive mitophagy and accelerating chondrocyte senescence and osteoarthritis(OA)in ***,intra-articular injection with an HDAC3-expressing adeno-associated virus restored the young phenotype of the aged chondrocytes stimulated by ECM stiffening and alleviated OA in *** findings indicated that changes in the mechanical ECM properties initiated pathogenic mechanotransduction signals,promoted the Parkin acetylation and hyperactivated mitophagy,and damaged chondrocyte *** results may provide new insights into chondrocyte regulation by the mechanical properties of ECM,suggesting that the modification of the physical ECM properties may be a potential OA treatment strategy.

A transient 3D model was established to investigate the effect of spatial interaction of ultrasounds on the dual-frequency ultrasonic field in magnesium alloy *** effects of insertion depth and tip shape of the ultrasonic rods,input pressures and their ratio on the acoustic field distribution were discussed in ***,the spacing,angle,and insertion depth of two ultrasonic rods significantly affect the interaction between distinct *** a result,various acoustic pressure distributions and cavitation regions are *** spherical rods mitigate the longitudinal and transversal attenuation of acoustic pressure and expand the cavitation volume by 53.7%and 31.7%,respectively,compared to the plate and conical *** the input pressure will enlarge the cavitation region but has no effect on the acoustic pressure distribution *** acoustic pressure ratio significantly affects the pressure distribution and the cavitation region,and the best cavitation effect is obtained at the ratio of 2:1(P15:P20).

Suppression of multistep phase transitions of O3-type cathode for sodium-ion batteries

O3-type layered oxide cathodes have been widely investigated due to their high reversible capacities and sufficient Na+***,such materials usually suffer from complex multistep phase transitions along with drastic volume changes,leading to the unsatisfied cycle ***,we report a Mg/Ti co-doped O3-type NaNi_(0.5)Mn_(0.5)O_(2),which can effectively suppress the complex multistep phase transition and realize a solid-solution reaction within a wide voltage *** is confirmed that,the Mg/Ti co-doping is beneficial to enhance the structural stability and integrity by absorbing micro-strain and ***,the as obtained sample delivers an outstanding cyclic performance(82.3%after 200 cycles at 1 C)in the voltage range of 2.0-4.0 V,and a high discharge capacity of 86.6 mAh/g after 100 cycles within the wide voltage range(2.0-4.5 V),which outperform the existing *** co-doping strategy offers new insights into high performance O3-type cathode for sodium ion batteries.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)ad hoc network has achieved significant growth for its flexibility,extensibility,and high deployability in recent *** application of clustering scheme for UAV ad hoc network is imperative to enhance the performance of throughput and energy *** conventional clustering scheme,a single cluster head(CH)is always assigned in each ***,this method has some weaknesses such as overload and premature death of CH when the number of UAVs *** order to solve this problem,we propose a dual-cluster-head based medium access control(DCHMAC)scheme for large-scale UAV *** DCHMAC,two CHs are elected to manage resource allocation and data forwarding ***,two CHs work on different *** of CH is used for intra-cluster communication and the other one is for inter-cluster communication.A Markov chain model is developed to analyse the throughput of the *** result shows that compared with FM-MAC(flying ad hoc networks multi-channel MAC,FM-MAC),DCHMAC improves the throughput by approximately 20%~50%and prolongs the network lifetime by approximately 40%.

The abused ciprofloxacin antibiotics have caused significant environmental *** oxidative degradation of ciprofloxacin exhibits promising efficacy,it often entails excessive energy ***,it is necessary to explore an effective and ecologically sustainable degradation ***,we demonstrated that g-C_(3)N_(4) decorated with the coordinated CeO_(2)and Co_(3)O_(4)(CeO_(2)-Co_(3)O_(4)/CN)exhibited effective ciprofloxacin photodegradation via in situ H_(2)O_(2) production and activation *** indicate that the introduced CeO_(2) enhances the transference of photogenerated electrons to O_(2) by adjusting the oxygen vacancy of photocatalyst,thereby increasing the generation of superoxide radicals,which in turn generate H_(2)O_(2),resulting in a 22.4-fold increase in H_(2)O_(2) generation over g-C_(3)N_(4).Moreover,the in situ H_(2)O_(2)generation facilitated by CeO_(2) is confirmed to be essential for ciprofloxacin degradation via CeO_(2)-Co_(3)O_(4)/CN,as it provides enough oxidant for Co_(3)O_(4) to activate into hydroxyl radicals for the pollutants ***,CeO_(2)-Co_(3)O_(4)/CN achieves a ciprofloxacin degradation ratio of 97.7%within 80 *** study introduces a novel approach that combines H_(2)O_(2) generation and activation,offering an innovative perspective for achieving clean and efficient purification of antibiotic-contaminated water.

A composite material comprising a carbon layer and spherical carbon/carbon cloth(C-SC/CC)was fabricated using a hydrothermal-pyrolysis method,employing carbon cloth as the substrate and glucose as the carbon *** C-SC/CC electrode was evaluated as an electrocatalytic electrode for hydrogen production by electrolysis of Bunsen reaction *** electrode prepared with 4 g of glucose and annealed at 800°C showed excellent electrocatalytic *** requires only a potential of 185 mV(***)to achieve a current density of 10 mA/***,the electrode demonstrated good stability with a 6%loss in current density after 1000 cycles of scanning from 0.2 V to 1.2 *** results indicate the potential of the SC/CC electrode as an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the electrolysis of H2SO4 and HI.
