Salt stress-induced changes in soil metabolites promote cadmium transport into wheat tissues

Soil salinity is known to improve cadmium(Cd)mobility,especially in arid ***,the mechanisms involved in how salt stress-associated metabolic profiles participate in mediating Cd transport in the soil-plant system remain poorly *** study was designed to investigate the effects of salinity-induced changes in soil metabolites on Cd *** salts in different combinations according to molar ratio(NaCl:Na_(2)SO_(4)=1:1;NaCl:Na_(2)SO_(4):NaHCO_(3)=1:2:1;NaCl:Na_(2)SO_(4):NaHCO_(3):Na_(2)CO_(3)=1:9:9:1;NaCl:Na_(2)SO_(4):NaHCO_(3):Na_(2)CO_(3)=1:1:1:1)were applied to the Cd-contaminated soils,which increased soil Cd availability by 22.36%and the Cd content in wheat grains by 36.61%,compared to the *** stress resulted in soil metabolic reprogramming,which might explain the decreased growth of wheat plants and increased Cd transport from the soil into wheat *** example,down-regulation of starch and sucrose metabolism reduced the production of sugars,which adversely affected growth;up-regulation of fatty acid metabolism allowed wheat plants to maintain a normal intracellular environment under saline conditions;up-regulation of the tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle was triggered,causing an increase in organic acid synthesis and the accumulation of organic acids,which facilitated the migration of soil Cd into wheat *** summary,salt stress can facilitate Cd transport into wheat tissues by the direct effect of salt-based ions and the combined effect of altered soil physicochemical properties and soil metabolic profiles in Cd-contaminated soils.

In this paper,effect of two strategies on afterglow behavior of Lu_(2)O_(3):Eu single crystal scintillato r,Pr^(3+)codoping and solid solution with Sc_(2)O_(3),were studied *** groups of Lu_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu,x at%Pr(x=0,0.2,0.5,1,2 and 5)and(Lu1-yScy)_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu(y=0,20 at%,50 at%and 70 at%)single crystals were grown by floating zone(FZ)method in air *** structures of as-grown crystals were determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The scintillation,photoluminescence properties and carrier trap states were investigated through afterglow,X-ray excitation luminescence(XEL),transmittance,photoluminescence excitation(PLE)and photoluminescence(PL),PL decay and thermal stimulated luminescence(TSL)*** is found that with the increase of Pr^(3+)concentration,the afterglow level of the system decreases at the expense of scintillation luminescence ***,although Sc_(2)O_(3):Eu presents much lower afterglow intensity than Lu_(2)O_(3):Eu,the addition of Sc_(2)O_(3)will just increase the afterglow level of the(Lu1-yScy)_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu single crystal *** mechanisms for above phenomena are discussed based on experimental results.

This study compares the atmosphere-only HighResMIP simulations from FGOALS-f3-H(FGOALS)and MRIAGCM3-2-S(MRI)with respect to tropical cyclone(TC)characteristics over the Western North Pacific(WNP)for the July-October months of *** focus is on investigating the role of the tropical easterly jet over the Western Pacific(WP_TEJ)in modulating the simulation biases in terms of their climatological distribution and interannual variability of WNP TC genesis frequency(TCGF)based on the analysis of the genesis potential index(GPI).Results show that the two models reasonably capture the main TC genesis location,the maximum center of frequency,and track density;however,their biases mainly lie in simulating the intense TCs and TCGF *** MRI better simulates the windpressure relationship(WPR)but overestimates the proportion of super typhoons(SSTYs).At the same time,FGOALS underestimates the WPR and the proportion of SSTYs but better simulates the total WNP TC *** particular,FGOALS overestimates the TCGF in the northeastern WNP,which is strongly tied to an overestimated WP_TEJ and the enhanced vertical circulation to the north of its entrance *** contrast,the MRI simulates a weaker WP_TEJ and vertical circulation,leading to a negative TCGF bias in most of the *** models exhibit comparable capability in simulating the interannual variability of WP_TEJ intensity,but the composite difference of large-scale atmospheric factors between strong and weak WP_TEJ years is overestimated,resulting in larger interannual anomalies of WNP TCGF,especially for ***,accurate simulations of the WP_TEJ and the associated oceanic and atmospheric factors are crucial to further improving WNP TC simulations for both models.

Electrocatalytic water splitting is the most directly available route to generate renewable and sustainable ***,we report the design of a composite material in which arrays of square pillar-like NiMoO4nanorods coated with N,P-doped carbon layers are uniformly contained in numerous nested nanoparticle *** catalysts have superior catalytic activity,requiring only 59 mV and 187 mV for HER and OER to attain a current density of 10 mA/cm^(2),*** assembled two-electrode electrolytic cell required a voltage of 1.48 V to reach 10 mA/cm^(2),along with excellent long-term *** calculations reveal that electrons aggregate and redistribute at the heterogeneous interface,with the d-band centers of the Ni and Fe atoms being positively shifted compared to the Fermi level,effectively optimizing the adsorption of intermediates and reducing the Gibbs free energy,thus accelerating the catalytic ***,an integrated solar-driven water-splitting system demonstrated a high and stable solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of 18.20%.This work provides new possibilities for developing non-precious metal-based bifunctional electrocatalysts for large-scale water splitting applications.

Overview of the CMIP6 Historical Experiment Datasets with the Climate System Model CAS FGOALS-f3-L

This study documents simulated oceanic circulations and sea ice by the coupled climate system model FGOALS-f3-L developed at the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics,Institute of Atmospheric Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,under historical forcing from phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP6).FGOALS-f3-L reproduces the fundamental features of global oceanic circulations,such as sea surface temperature(SST),sea surface salinity(SSS),mixed layer depth(MLD),vertical temperature and salinity,and meridional overturning *** are notable improvements compared with the previous version,FGOALS-s2,such as a reduction in warm SST biases near the western and eastern boundaries of oceans and salty SSS biases in the tropical western Atlantic and eastern boundaries,and a mitigation of deep MLD biases at high ***,several obvious biases *** most significant biases include cold SST biases in the northwestern Pacific(over 4°C),freshwater SSS biases and deep MLD biases in the subtropics,and temperature and salinity biases in deep ocean at high *** simulated sea ice shows a reasonable distribution but stronger seasonal cycle than *** spatial patterns of sea ice are more realistic in FGOALS-f3-L than its previous version because the latitude–longitude grid is replaced with a tripolar grid in the ocean and sea ice *** most significant biases are the overestimated sea ice and underestimated SSS in the Labrador Sea and Barents Sea,which are related to the shallower MLD and weaker vertical mixing.

CAS-FGOALS Datasets for the Two Interglacial Epochs of the Holocene and the Last Interglacial in PMIP4

Two versions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model(CASFGOALS),version f3-L and g3,are used to simulate the two interglacial epochs of the mid-Holocene and the Last Interglacial in phase 4 of the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project(PMIP4),which aims to study the impact of changes in orbital parameters on the Earth’s *** the PMIP4 experimental protocols,four simulations for the mid-Holocene and two simulations for the Last Interglacial have been completed,and all the data,including monthly and daily outputs for the atmospheric,oceanic,land and sea-ice components,have been released on the Earth System Grid Federation(ESGF)*** datasets contribute to PMIP4 and CMIP6(phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project)by providing the variables necessary for the two interglacial *** this paper,the basic information of the CAS-FGOALS models and the protocols for the two interglacials are briefly described,and the datasets are validated using proxy *** suggest that the CAS-FGOALS models capture the large-scale changes in the climate system in response to changes in solar insolation during the interglacial epochs,including warming in mid-to-high latitudes,changes in the hydrological cycle,the seasonal variation in the extent of sea ice,and the damping of interannual variabilities in the tropical ***,disagreements within and between the models and the proxy data are also *** datasets will help the modeling and the proxy data communities with a better understanding of model performance and biases in paleoclimate simulations.

The datasets for the tier-1 Scenario Model Intercomparison Project(ScenarioMIP)experiments from the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model,finite-volume version 3(CAS FGOALS-f3-L)are described in this *** is one of the core MIP experiments in phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP6).Considering future CO2,CH4,N2O and other gases’concentrations,as well as land use,the design of ScenarioMIP involves eight pathways,including two tiers(tier-1 and tier-2)of ***-1 includes four combined Shared Socioeconomic Pathways(SSPs)with radiative forcing,i.e.,SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5,in which the globally averaged radiative forcing at the top of the atmosphere around the year 2100 is approximately 2.6,4.5,7.0 and 8.5 W m−2,*** study provides an introduction to the ScenarioMIP datasets of this model,such as their storage location,sizes,variables,*** analysis indicates that surface air temperatures will increase by about 1.89℃,3.07℃,4.06℃ and 5.17℃ by around 2100 under these four scenarios,***,some other key climate variables,such as sea-ice extension,precipitation,heat content,and sea level rise,also show significant long-term trends associated with the radiative forcing *** datasets will help us understand how the climate will change under different anthropogenic and radiative forcings.
