Interfacial instability of sand patterns induced by turbulent shear flow

When a turbulent shear flow above a plane sand surface entrains sand grains, it generates a variety of sand patterns. Fluvial sand forms two major interfacial patterns: meso-scale dunes and antidunes, and large-scale bars. Measurements have evidenced that under erosive conditions, meso-scale patterns either change to or coexist with large-scale patterns. However, it remains elusive what exactly drives the switching of interfacial patterns and how the switching occurs. Here, we showdcombing a flow model with a grain transport model, allowing for both the surface and suspended sand fluxes dthat the switching of patterns emerges from the shear-driven complex feedback between grain transport and topographic perturbations. The switching predominantly depends on the magnitudes of the Rouse number and the grain size to undisturbed flow depth ratio. The model offers quantitative predictions of the maximum amplification of sand patterns and unveils a new attraction erepulsion phenomenon.

HPLC-UV method for simultaneous determination of irbesartan, candesartan, gliquidone and pioglitazone in formulations and in human serum

In this study, we reported and validated a novel and sensitive reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of irbesartan, candesartan, gliquidone and pioglitazone. Separation was performed at 230 nm using a mobile phase consisting of methanol–water(90:10, v/v) with a flow rate of 1 mL/min. p H was adjusted to 3.5 with phosphoric acid. The concentration-response relationship was found linear over a concentration range of 5–25 μg/mL for all of the analytes tested. The limits of detection and quantification were 0.83 and 2.78 for irbesartan, 0.30 and 1.01 for candesartan, 1.11 and 3.93 for gliquidone, and 0.41 and 1.41 μg/mL for pioglitazone, respectively. Described method permitted the successful determination of these drugs in human serum. The developed method was simple, rapid, and it did not require extensive sample purification.

Thymoma： current diagnosis and treatment

Objective To review the presentation, diagnosis, staging and treatment of thymoma. Data sources Data were obtained from papers on thymoma published in English within the last 30 years. No formal systematic review was conducted, but an effort was made to be comprehensive. Study selection Studies were selected if they contained data relevant to the topic addressed in the particular section. In particular, standards adopted by the International Thymic Malignancies Interest Group through a formal process of achieving worldwide consensus are featured. Because of the limited length of this article, we have frequently referenced recent reviews that contain a comprehensive amalgamation of literature rather than the actual source papers. Results Thymomas are rare malignant tumors. They account for about half （47%） of anterior mediastinal tumors. About one third of these are associated with myasthenia gravis. Computed tomography with intravenous contrast is the standard diagnostic modality. Thymomas appear as round or oval masses in early stages but irregular shapes with calcifications occurring in later stages. They can invade surrounding structures including mediastinal fat, pleura, major blood vessels and nerves. Fine needle aspiration, core needle biopsy or open biopsy is used to obtain tissue diagnosis. Masaoka-Koga classification is currently used to stage thymomas. All thymomas should be considered for resection due to their malignant potential. A complete resection is a major prognostic factor and every effort should be made to achieve this even if this means resection and reconstruction of a major thoracic structure. Median sternotomy is the standard approach for thymoma resection. A number of minimally invasive techniques are used in selective centers. While stage I and II tumors undergo primary surgery, preoperative chemotherapy appears to increase the chances of complete resection for stage III and IVa tumors. The precise brain tumor diagnosis is critical and shows a vital role in the medical support for treating tumor *** brain tumor segmentation for cancer analysis from many Magnetic Resonance Images(MRIs)created in medical practice is a problematic and timewasting task for *** a result,there is a critical necessity for more accurate computeraided methods for early tumor *** remove this gap,we enhanced the computational power of a computer-aided system by proposing a finetuned Block-Wise Visual Geometry Group19(BW-VGG19)*** this method,a pre-trained VGG19 is fine-tuned with CNN architecture in the block-wise mechanism to enhance the system`s *** publicly accessible Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging(CE-MRI)dataset collected from 2005 to 2020 from different hospitals in China has been used in this *** proposed method is simple and achieved an accuracy of 0.98%.We compare our technique results with the existing Convolutional Neural network(CNN),VGG16,and VGG19 *** results indicate that our proposed technique outperforms the best results associated with the existing methods.

Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization of Multistage Ground-launched Boost Phase Interceptor Using Hybrid Search Algorithm

This article proposes a multidisciplinary design and optimization （MDO） strategy for the conceptual design of a multistage ground-based interceptor （GBI） using hybrid optimization algorithm, which associates genetic algorithm （GA） as a global optimizer with sequential quadratic programming （SQP） as a local optimizer. The interceptor is comprised of a three-stage solid propulsion system for an exoatmospheric boost phase intercept （BPI）. The interceptor＇s duty is to deliver a kinetic kill vehicle （KKV） to the optimal position in space to accomplish the mission of intercept. The modules for propulsion, aerodynamics, mass properties and flight dynamics are integrated to produce a high fidelity model of the entire vehicle. The propulsion module com- prises of solid rocket motor （SRM） grain design, nozzle geometry design and performance prediction analysis. Internal ballistics and performance prediction parameters are calculated by using lumped parameter method. The design objective is to minimize the gross lift off mass （GLOM） of the interceptor under the mission constraints and performance objectives. The proposed design and optimization methodology provide designers with an efficient and powerful approach in computation during designing interceptor systems.

Long-document semantic measurement has great significance in many applications such as semantic searchs, plagiarism detection, and automatic technical surveys. However, research efforts have mainly focused on the semantic similarity of short texts. Document-level semantic measurement remains an open issue due to problems such as the omission of background knowledge and topic transition. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic matching method for long documents in the academic domain. To accurately represent the general meaning of an academic article, we construct a semantic profile in which key semantic elements such as the research purpose, methodology, and domain are included and enriched. As such, we can obtain the overall semantic similarity of two papers by computing the distance between their profiles. The distances between the concepts of two different semantic profiles are measured by word vectors. To improve the semantic representation quality of word vectors, we propose a joint word-embedding model for incorporating a domain-specific semantic relation constraint into the traditional context constraint. Our experimental results demonstrate that, in the measurement of document semantic similarity, our approach achieves substantial improvement over state-of-the-art methods, and our joint word-embedding model produces significantly better word representations than traditional word-embedding models.

Hybridizing Artificial Bee Colony with Bat Algorithm for Web Service Composition

In the Internet of Things(IoT),the users have complex needs,and the Web Service Composition(WSC)was introduced to address these *** WSC’s main objective is to search for the optimal combination of web services in response to the user needs and the level of Quality of Services(QoS)*** challenge of this problem is the huge number of web services that achieve similar functionality with different levels of QoS *** this paper,we introduce an extension of our previous works on the Artificial Bee Colony(ABC)and Bat Algorithm(BA).A new hybrid algorithm was proposed between the ABC and BA to achieve a better tradeoff between local exploitation and global *** bat agent is used to improve the solution of exhausted bees after a threshold(limits),and also an Elitist Strategy(ES)is added to BA to increase the convergence *** performance and convergence behavior of the proposed hybrid algorithm was tested using extensive comparative experiments with current state-ofthe-art nature-inspired algorithms on 12 benchmark datasets using three evaluation criteria(average fitness values,best fitness values,and execution time)that were measured for 30 different *** datasets are created from real-world datasets and artificially to form different scale sizes of WSC *** results show that the proposed algorithm enhances the search performance and convergence rate on finding the near-optimal web services combination compared to *** signed-rank significant test is usedwhere the proposed algorithm results significantly differ fromother algorithms on 100%of datasets.

Colorectal cancer carcinogenesis:a review of mechanisms

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cancer in women and the third most common in men globally. CRC arises from one or a combination of chromosomal instability, Cp G island methylator phenotype, and microsatellite instability. Genetic instability is usually caused by aneuploidy and loss of heterozygosity. Mutations in the tumor suppressor or cell cycle genes may also lead to cellular transformation. Similarly, epigenetic and/or genetic alterations resulting in impaired cellular pathways, such as DNA repair mechanism, may lead to microsatellite instability and mutator phenotype. Non-coding RNAs, more importantly micro RNAs and long non-coding RNAs have also been implicated at various CRC stages. Understanding the specific mechanisms of tumorigenesis and the underlying genetic and epigenetic traits is critical in comprehending the disease phenotype. This paper reviews these mechanisms along with the roles of various non-coding RNAs in CRCs.
