Predictive value of serum calcium ion level in patients with colorectal cancer:A retrospective cohort study

BACKGROUND Serum calcium ion(Ca2+)is an economical and readily available indicator as a routine screening test for hospitalized *** are no studies related to serum Ca2+level and digestive tract *** To evaluate the effectiveness of serum Ca2+level in predicting the prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).METHODS We retrospectively collected the data of 280 patients diagnosed with CRC who underwent radical surgery at the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xinjiang Medical *** analyzing the clinicopathological features,differences between serum Ca2+concentrations on the first day after surgery were *** used the receiver operating characteristic curve to assess the predictive ability of serum Ca2+for *** analyses were performed using the Kaplan-Meier method,and multivariate Cox proportional risk regression was used to determine association between calibration serum Ca2+levels and CRC survival *** By receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,the ideal threshold value for Ca2+the first postoperative day and delta serum calcium(δCa2+)value were 1.975 and 0.245,*** survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)were better in both the high Ca2+group and highδCa2+group on the first postoperative *** variables identified through univariate analysis were incorporated into multivariate analysis and showed that tumor differ-entiation(P=0.047),T stage(P=0.019),N stage(P<0.001),nerve vascular invasion(P=0.037),carcinoembryonic antigen(P=0.039),baseline serum Ca2+level(P=0.011),and serum Ca2+level on the first day(P=0.006)were independent predictors of prognosis for patients undergoing feasible radical CRC *** the findings from the multifactorial analysis,we developed a nomogram and the calibration showed a good predictive *** Low serum Ca2+level on the first postoperative day is an independent risk factor for OS and PFS in CRC.

Polymeric microwave actuators combining tissue-like softness with programmablemicrowave-responsive deformation hold great promise for mobile intelligentdevices and bionic soft robots. However, their application is challenged by restricted electromagneticsensitivity and intricate sensing coupling. In this study, a sensitized polymericmicrowave actuator is fabricated by hybridizing a liquid crystal polymer with Ti3C2Tx(MXene). Compared to the initial counterpart, the hybrid polymer exhibits unique spacechargepolarization and interfacial polarization, resulting in significant improvements of230% in the dielectric loss factor and 830% in the apparent efficiency of electromagneticenergy harvest. The sensitized microwave actuation demonstrates as the shortenedresponse time of nearly 10 s, which is merely 13% of that for the initial shape memory polymer. Moreover, the ultra-low content of MXene (upto 0.15 wt%) benefits for maintaining the actuation potential of the hybrid polymer. An innovative self-powered sensing prototype that combinesdriving and piezoelectric polymers is developed, which generates real-time electric potential feedback (open-circuit potential of ~ 3 mV) duringactuation. The polarization-dominant energy conversion mechanism observed in the MXene-polymer hybrid structure furnishes a new approachfor developing efficient electromagnetic dissipative structures and shows potential for advancing polymeric electromagnetic intelligent devices.

Tetraploid　induced　by　physical　and　chemical　methods　in　Jinjiang　oyster（Crassostrea　rivularis）

In order to induce tetraploid into Jinjiang oyster (Crassostrea rivularis), embryos were treated with physical (cold or heat shock) and chemical (chlorpromazinum or traditional Chinese medicine)methods in the first 3 min before the cleavage of zygotes or at the onset of the first cleavage of one or two eggs. Measurements show that the induction rates of tetraploid in the embryos inspected are 28%, 30%, 28. 4% and 35. 8% for heat-shock (39℃, 3 min),cold-shock (10℃, 3min),chlorpromazinum (0. 375 mg/dm3, 10 min) and traditional Chinese medicine (50 g/dm3 )extract (57 cm3, 10 min),respectively. The tetraploid induction rate in the larvae treated with traditional Chinese medicine is 32. 5%.It is evident that the induction rate of tetraploid in embryos insected at an early stage is the most remarkable when treated. with traditional Chinese medicine.

Neutron-induced gamma-ray imaging is a spectroscopic technique that uses characteristic gamma rays to infer the elemental distribution of an ***,this technique requires the use of large facilities to supply a high neutron flux and a time-consuming detection procedure involving direct collimating *** this study,a new method based on low neutron flux was proposed.A single-pixel gamma-ray detector combined with random pattern gamma-ray masks was used to measure the characteristic gamma rays emitted from the *** of the elemental distribution in the sample,comprising 30×30 pixels,were reconstructed using the maximum-likelihood expectation-maximization *** results demonstrate that the elemental imaging of the sample can be accurately determined using this *** proposed approach,which eliminates the need for high neutron flux and scanning measurements,can be used for in-field imaging applications.

Clinical features and prognosis in colorectal cancer patients with different ethnicities in Northwest China

AIM:To compare the clinical factors and tumor characteristics that predict survival in colorectal cancer(CRC)patients with different ethnicities in Xin Jiang ***:A total of 1421 histopathologically confirmed sporadic CRC patients who were either Han/Chinese or Uyghur were identified and enrolled from a database of both diagnoses and operative procedures from Xin Jiang Tumor Hospital,which is affiliated to Xin Jiang Medical University between 2000 and *** with family histories of CRC,hereditary nonpolyposis CRC,familial adenomatous polyposis,inflammatory bowel disease,carcinoid,squamous carcinoma or melanoma were *** two ethnic groups were compared with regard to clinical features,tumor characteristics,disease stage,overall survival rate,diseasefree survival rate and cancer-specific survival *** factors predicting long-term survival were assessed via both univariate and multivariate ***:Among the 1421 patients with CRC enrolled in this study,1210 patients were Han/Chinese(mean age,62.3±4.5 years;range,19-92 years),while 211patients were Uyghur(mean age,52.4±15.6 years;range,17-87 years).There were significant differences in proportions of gender,age,blood type,occupation and histopathological type between the Han/Chinese and Uyghur patients(P<0.05).The median overall,disease-free and cancer-specific survival time were 45,62and 65 mo for the Han/Chinese patients and 42,49 and61 mo for the Uyghur patients(P=0.000,P=0.005,P=0.007).The cumulative 5-year survival of the Uyghur patients was significantly worse than that of the Han patients(P=0.000).A multivariate analysis showed that age,ethnicity,histopathological type,differentiation,T(Infiltration depth),N(Lymph node metastasis),staging,postoperative metastasis and metastatic site(P<0.05)were found to be the prognostic ***:The Uyghur CRC patients are associated with significantly younger age,more aggressive histopathologic characteristics and have significantl

Pyogenic granuloma(PG) is a kind of benign vascular tumor. Most of the time, it is found on the skin and mucosa. Many different treatment options for PG have been reported, including destructive approaches and nonsurgical treatments depending on the size and location of PGs. Sclerotherapy with polidocanol(POL) foam has frequently been used for the chronic venous disease, hemangiomas and other vascular malformations, but less report on the evaluation of PGs has been documented. Thermoelectric Modulation of Neat Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXenes by Finely Regulating the Stacking of Nanosheets

Emerging two-dimensional MXenes have been extensively studied in a wide range of fields thanks to their superior electrical and hydrophilic attributes as well as excellent chemical stability and mechanical *** them,the ultrahigh electrical conductivity(σ)and tunable band structures of benchmark Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene demonstrate its good potential as thermoelectric(TE)***,both the large variation ofσreported in the literature and the intrinsically low Seebeck coefficient(S)hinder the practical ***,this study has for the first time systematically investigated the TE properties of neat Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) films,which are finely modulated by exploiting different dispersing solvents,controlling nanosheet sizes and constructing ***,deionized water is found to be superior for obtaining closely packed MXene sheets relative to other polar ***,a simultaneous increase in both S andσis realized via elevating centrifugal speed on MXene aqueous suspensions to obtain small-sized nanosheets,thus yielding an ultrahigh power factor up to~156μW m^(-1) K^(-2).Third,S is significantly enhanced yet accompanied by a reduction inσwhen constructing MXene-based nanocomposites,the latter of which is originated from the damage to the intimate stackings of MXene ***,a correlation between the TE properties of neat Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) films and the stacking of nanosheets is elucidated,which would stimulate further exploration of MXene TEs.
