Enhancing hydrogen evolution of moS_(2) basal planes by combining single-boron catalyst and compressive strain

m0 S2 is a promising candidate for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),while its active sites are mainly distributed on the edge sites rather than the basal plane ***,a strategy to overcome the inertness of the m0 S2 basal surface and achieve high HER activity by combining single-boron catalyst and compressive strain was reported through density functional theory(DFT)*** ab initio molecular dynamics(AImD)simulation on B@moS2 suggests high thermodynamic and kinetic *** found that the rather strong adsorption of hydrogen by B@moS2 can be alleviated by stress *** optimal stress of -7%can achieve a nearly zero value of △Gh(〜-0.084 eV),which is close to that of the ideal Pt-saCs for *** novel HER activity is attributed to(i)the Bdoping brings the active site to the basal plane of m0 S2 and reduces the band-gap,thereby increasing the conductivity;(ii)the compressive stress regulates the number of charge transfer between(H)-(B)-(moS2),weakening the adsorption energy of hydrogen on B@***,we constructed a SiN/B@moS2 heterojunction,which introduces an 8.6%compressive stress for B@moS2 and yields an ideal AGh-This work provides an effective means to achieve high intrinsic HER activity for m0 S2.

Nucleon Finite Volume Effect and Nuclear matter Properties in a Relativistic mean-Field Theory

Effects of excluded volume of nucleons on nuclear matter are studied, and the nuclear properties that follow from different relativistic mean-field model parametrizations are compared. We show that, for all tested parametrizations, the resulting volume energy al and the symmetry energy J are around the acceptable values of 16 meV and 30 meV, and the density symmetry L is around 100 meV. On the other hand, models that consider only linear terms lead to incompressibility Ko much higher than expected. For most parameter sets there exists a critical point （pc, δc）, where the minimum and the maximum of the equation of state are coincident and the incompressibility equals zero. This critical point depends on the excluded volume parameter r. If this parameter is larger than 0.5 fm, there is no critical point and the pure neutron matter is predicted to be bound. The maximum value for neutron star mass is 1.85m⊙, which is in agreement with the mass of the heaviest observed neutron star 4U0900-40 and corresponds to r = 0.72 fm. We also show that the light neutron star mass （1.2m⊙） is obtained for r ≌ 0.9 fro.

AIm:To analyse the possible association of various Helicobacter species and certain common gut bacteria in patients with meckel's diverticulum and ***:A nested-polymerase chain reaction (PCR),specific to 16S rRNA of the Helicobacter genus,was performed on paraffin embedded samples,50 with acute appendicitis,50 normal appendixes,and 33 meckel's diverticulum with gastric heterotopia and/or *** genus positive samples were sequenced for species *** samples were also analysed for certain gut bacteria by ***:Helicobacter pullorum DNA was found in one out of 33 cases and Enterobacteria in two cases of meckel's *** pylori (***) was found in three,Enterobacter in 18,and Bacteroides in 19 out of 100 appendix samples by *** was not found in any mD or appendix *** *** positive cases were from normal ***:Helicobacter is not an etiological agent in the pathogenesis of symptomatic meckel's diverticulum or in acute appendicitis.

Wheat yield scenarios for rainwater harvesting at Northern Sinjar mountain, Iraq

Iraq is part of West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region. The area is known as dry land, famous with gap of crop yield as a result of the water shortage problem. Six basins with total catchment area of 614.19 km2 at rain-fed of Northern Sinjar District (Iraq) had been chosen to investigate both of the potential of rainwater harvesting (RWH) and three supplemental irrigation (SI) scenarios S1, S2, and S3 (100%, 75%, and 50% of full irrigation requirement) to support the wheat yield (bread and durum) under various rainfall conditions for the study period 1990-2009. The results indicated that, the total volume of harvested runoff can be considered for irrigation practices, that reached up to 42.4, 25.1, 0.6, 10.9 (× 106 m3) during 1995-1996, 1996-1997, 1998-1999, and 2001-2002, respectively. The total irrigated area ranged between 10.9 - 5163.7 and 8.8 - 3595.7 (ha) for bread and durum wheat crop for the four selected seasons respectively. The yield scenarios for supplemental irrigation condition Y1, Y2, and Y3 give 68 - 9712, 94 - 12,999, and 105 - 22,806 Ton for bread wheat, and for durum wheat give 56 - 8035, 87 - 10,906, and 103 - 17,396 Ton.

Towards an easier pleurodesis: Ultrasound-guided iodopovidone sclerotherapy in cirrhotic patients with hepatic hydrothorax

Background and Aim: Hepatic hydrothorax is one of the complications encountered in end stage liver disease. Pleural drainage carries the risk of massive protein and electrolyte depletion as well as the risk of bleeding and hepatic encephalopathy. Pleurodesis following pleural aspiration decreases the chance of pleural effusion recurrence, and has been a widely used long-standing method of controlling recurrent pleural effusions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of pleurodesis using ultrasound-guided iodopovidone sclerotherapy in hepatic hydrothorax. Patients and methods: This prospective study included 56 patients with clinical, laboratory and radiological evidence of liver cirrhosis and symptomatic right sided hepatic hydrothorax. All patients were subjected to repeated thoracentesis. Ten ml of lidocaine 2% were injected in the pleural space followed by 20 ml of iodopovidone. The follow-up was done after 3 months. Results: The sclerotherapy procedure was successful in 40 out of 56 cases (71.4%), and the success rate was 66.7% in massive effusion and reached 80% in moderate effusion. Twenty eight patients (50%) had to repeat the procedure for a second time, sixteen of which (28.6%) failed despite the second trial and twelve cases (21.4%) showed no fluid reaccumulation. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided iodopovidone sclerotherapy is an effective approach for a successful pleurodesis in hepatic hydrothorax.

为解决汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料力学性能较差的问题,本文提出采用聚乙烯醇(PVA)乳液对汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料进行改性。在优化秸秆纤维的粒径和掺入量后,采用PVA乳液与秸秆纤维和水泥进行共混成型,制备了改性后的汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料。研究了不同质量比的PVA乳液对汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料的抗折强度、密度、比强度和弯曲韧性的影响,通过含水率、吸水率及红外光谱测试揭示了PVA乳液对汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料的改性机制。结果表明:汉麻秸秆纤维粒径为1700μm及掺入量为12%时,秸秆纤维对汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料的增强作用最好。随着PVA乳液质量比的增加,改性后汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料的密度逐渐减小,弯曲韧性逐渐提高。当PVA乳液质量比为4.8%时,相较于未改性的汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料,改性后的汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料抗折强度和比强度分别提高了17.17%和20.50%。通过PVA乳液改性使汉麻秸秆纤维/水泥基复合材料中秸秆纤维与水泥之间的界面得到改善,并缓解了秸秆纤维对水泥水化反应的阻碍作用。

Would behavioral thermoregulation enable pregnant viviparous tropical lizards to cope with a warmer world?

Assessment of maintenance oral Etoposide following induction chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplating in chemonaive extensive small cell lung cancer

Objective： The aim of our study was to evaluate the response and tolerability to treatment when using gemcitabine-cisplatin combination （GC）, followed by maintenance therapy of oral etoposide for non-progressive patients in trial to improve progression free survival and overall survival. methods： Thirty nine patients with extensive small cell lung cancer （SCLC） and ECOG ≤ 2 received 4 cycles of chemotherapy consisting of gemcitabine 1000 mg/m^2 （day 1 and 8） cisplating 75 mgim2 （day 1） every three weeks. Twenty seven non-progressive patients after 4 cycles of chemotherapy were randomized either to receive oral etoposide 50 mg/m^2 for consecutive 15 days every 3 weeks vs no therapy for three months or progression. Results： Thirty nine eligible patients treated with GC, 27 non progressive patients were subsequently randomized to oral etoposide or observation. median follow-up was 18 months. The overall response rate to GC was 59% and toxicity to oral etoposide was mild. There was improvement in median progression-free survival （PFS） favoring the maintenance arm of 10.5 months vs 7 months （P 〈 0.05）. median overall survival （OS） had improved towards the maintenance arm （13 vs 11.5 months）. One year survival （60% vs 24%）, 18 months survival （20% vs 5%） favoring the maintenance. multivariate analysis revealed that age, performance status, maintenance therapy, and response to treatment were independent prognostic factors for OS. Age, maintenance therapy, and response to treatment were highly significant factors for PFS. Conclusion： Gemcitabine-cisplatin is an effective and tolerable regiment for extensive disease of SCLC. The addition of 3 months of oral etoposide in non progressing patients was associated with a significant improvement of PFS and longer OS.

TDDFT Studies of Electronic Structure and First Hyperpolarizability of Tetra-nuclear Cubane-like Transition metal Clusters

The TDDFT method is first applied in a series of tetra-nuclear transition metal clusters studies for nonlinear optical properties. The results indicate that the charge transfer inside the metal core [mCu3X4] (m=W, mo; X=S, O, Cl, Se, Br) makes contribution to the optical nonlinearity. It is possible to enhance the hyperpolarizability by substituting the ligands of the clusters.
