Application and circular economy prospects of palm oil waste for eco-friendly asphalt pavement industry:A review

During the production of palm oil,a significant amount of waste is ***,because of inefficient handling and utilization,these wastes are becoming a larger *** a result,one initiative is to use these wastes in the pavement industry as sustainable ***,there is still a lack of understanding about the wider incorporation of palm oil waste in asphalt pavement and its *** study examines existing literature on the use of various wastes in the pavement industry,including palm oil clinker(POC),palm oil fibre(POF),palm kernel shell(PKS),and palm oil fuel ash(POFA).As a result,this paper presents a systematic review and scientometric investigation of related study publications on many uses of palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry and its performance from 2009 to *** VOS viewer application was used to conduct the sciento-metric study *** relationship between interactions detected in co-authored country studies cited sources of co-citation,and the keyword of the co-occurrence and publication source enabled the identification of the research *** to the systematic literature review,40%–60% POC can be used to fine aggregate for optimal performance,while 0–100%PKS can be used to replace coarse *** addition,50%–80% POFA or POC fine(POCF)can be used as a filler replacement,5%–8% POCF or POFA as a bitumen modifier,and 0.3% POF as a stabilizing ***,the study demonstrates that the safety of utilizing wastes with more than 50% CO_(2) emissions can be curtailed with minimal heavy metal leaching and radioactivity *** scientometric analysis may encourage researchers to seek out gaps in the literature that will aid in the long-term,multifaceted use of palm oil wastes in the asphalt pavement ***,the study recommends employing and researching the enormous potential of using palm oil waste in the pavement sectors because they are more sustainable and have better perfor

近几年来中国高等教育不断发展,每年都吸引大量的国际学生来此留学。随着留学生数量在中国的快速增长,他们在不同的社会文化环境下学习面临诸多挑战,尤其是研究生在一个陌生和巨大变化的学习环境中遇到很多困难。本研究旨在探讨来华留学的研究生的科研体验、影响其科研体验的因素及其对中国总体研究的影响。本研究针对中国各大高校的404名外国研究生进行问卷调查。研究生科研体验调查(PRES)是以在线方式衡量外国研究生的科研体验。本研究采用定性和定量研究相结合的方法。采用问卷调查探讨指导、研究资源、研究文化、进展与评价、责任、研究技能、专业发展与机会、人口因素对科研体验的影响,并探讨了科研体验因素对其整体研究的影响。使用SPSS version 19对问卷调查得到的数据进行描述性、相关性、差异性和回归分析。同时,采用半结构化访谈的定性方法,探究国外研究生在科研指导、资源、研究文化、进展与评价、责任、研究技能、专业发展、机会等方面所面临的问题。采用随机抽样的方法,对25名来自不同研究领域的外国研究生进行了访谈。研究结果显示学生对科研体验的整体满意度有显著差异。所有的科研体验因素之间存在显著的相关关系。人口统计学变量如学位程度对外国研究生的科研体验有正向影响。研究发现性别对科研体验的影响在总体水平上不显著。研究还发现,在华外籍研究生在不同学科的研究领域上科研体验并不相同。回归分析结果表明,国外研究生的科研体验影响其总体经验。通过对访谈结果进行分析,发现外国研究生科研体验存在的问题。从访谈的解读中可以看出,外籍研究生普遍面对的问题是教师的缺位、工作室的缺乏、缺乏沟通、缺乏知识、缺乏兴趣和反馈、缺乏研究资源、研究技能机会不足等。总之,研究条件的不足是留学生普遍反映的问题。因此,本研究的结果为越来越多的中国高校敲响了警钟,在加强留学生科研体验方面,应注重以需求为导向的研究服务。同时,也意味着需要解决外籍留学生学术研究的问题,提供有竞争力的、令人满意的条件,以提升他们所在大学在国际大学中的排名。

An Error Controlled Method to Determine the Stellar Density Function in a Region of the Sky

In this paper, a reliable computational tool will be developed for the determination of the parameters of the stellar density function in a region of the sky with complete error controlled estimates. Of these error estimates are, the variance of the fit, the variance of the least squares solutions vector, the average square distance between the exact and the least-squares solutions, finally the variance of the density stellar function due to the variance of the least squares solutions vector. Moreover, all these estimates are given in closed analytical forms.

Perceptions and experiences of female burn survivors with facial disfigurement

Purpose This study aimed at exploring the perceptions and experiences of female burn survivors with facial disfigurement in *** Two different quantitative and qualitative studies were conducted,of which the data were collected from 100 burn patients.A pilot interview protocol was *** indepth interview of five female burn survivors with facial disfigurement was taken in Lahore,*** transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis and four major themes were identified,respectively physical appearance,posttraumatic growth,relationships and coping *** Thematic analysis reflected differences in attributional style,perceptions and individual experiences of female burn survivors with facial *** study showed the importance of physical appearance for different burn survivors and how their life had changed after suffering from a burn *** It could be easy to have a positive outlook towards life and accept visible differences post injury for the burn survivors,who are grateful for life,get a strong family support and have available *** the contrary,with low self-esteem,lack of a family support and available resources,patients would be dissatisfied with their life.

Under high-excitation irradiance conditions to induce fluorescence, the dependence of photobleaching of Coumarin 307 （C307） and acriflavine （ACF） laser dyes in liquid and solid phases have been studied. A cw LD laser source of 1 mW and 407 nm wavelength was used as an exciting source. For one hour exposure time, it was found that the solid dye samples suffer photobleaching more than the liquid dye samples. This is because in liquid solutions the dye molecules can circulate during the irradiation, while the photobleaching is a serious problem when the dye is incorporated into solid matrix and cannot circulate.

Indications and Outcome of Gynaecological Hysterectomy at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano: A 5-Year Review

Background: Hysterectomy, is a common operation worldwide. It is a major surgery, which leads to significant morbidity and mortality, hence, there must be a justifiable indication before the procedure is undertaken. Symptomatic uterine fibroid and utero-vaginal prolapse are common indications in this environment. Objectives: To determine the prevalence, indications and outcome of hysterectomy at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano. Study Design: A retrospective study of all the hysterectomies that were done in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano between 1st of Jan 2009 and 31st of Dec 2013. Result: During the period of study, there were 3843 major gynaecological operations. Out of which hysterectomy was 196, giving hysterectomy rate of 5.1% of all major gynaecological operations. Hysterectomy was highest among patient aged 40 - 49 years accounting for 54.6% of cases and the commonest indication was uterine fibroid, constituting 66.4% of all hysterectomies. Total abdominal hysterectomy was the most frequently preformed, accounting for 78.1% while, vaginal hysterectomy accounts for 20.9% of cases and subtotal hysterectomy was 1%. Hysterectomy was mostly complicated with post-operative pyrexia constituting 24% of all the complications while ureteric injury was the least, constituting 1%. There was no mortality recorded. Most of the patients who had hysterectomy were discharge in less than 10th post-operative day accounting for 91.3% of cases. However, 80.5% of patients who had vagina hysterectomy were discharge in less than 5th post-operative day. Conclusion: The prevalence of hysterectomy was 5.1%. Uterine fibroid was the commonest indication while post-operative pyrexia was the commonest complication found.

Influence of Recycled Construction Materials Aggregate on Mechanical and Physical Properties of Concrete

The main purpose of this research is to study the properties of re-use different types of construction materials such as PVC （polyvinylchloride） scraps, clay brick and recycled concrete as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate. Different proportions （1%, 3%, 5% and 7%） by weight were used for PVC. scrap, （10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%） by weight were used for recycled concrete and （5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%） by weight were used for clay brick. Mechanical tests such as compressive and tensile strength tests and physical tests such as ultrasonic pulse velocity, bulk density, porosity, specific gravity and water absorption tests were done to the samples after curing in normal water for 28 days. Test results showed slightly degradation in mechanical and physical engineering properties of concrete specimens that used partial replacement of recycled concrete coarse aggregate, degradation increased with increasing of replacement but test results still closely to reference samples. Use of polyvinyl chloride in proportions not more than 5% as a partial replacement of coarse aggregates given acceptable results in comparison with reference samples but all test results degraded at 7% replacements. Test results of partial replacement of crushed brick coarse aggregates unacceptable and the range of degradation are wide because of increased （water： cement） ratio to improve the concrete workability.

Easy Determination of Radiation Absorption in Brain Tissue from Mobile Phones Using Finite Element Method

Brain tissue plays a significant role in both cognitive and psychomotor behavior of humans. However, their interaction with radiation emanating from hand held mobile devices is still not fully understood. This research was aimed at investigating radiation absorption in brain tissue. Bovine brain tissues ranging from lesser than 1 year to greater than 10 years of age were bought from a specialty store (Sigma-Aldrich). The tissues were used within 72 h of extraction for ex vivo brain experiments. The brain tissue was stored at 6°C and then 16°C for 24 h in the MRI room to reach thermal equilibrium before any experiments were undertaken. The averages for the dielectric constant were measured from 1 - 4 GHz using open ended coaxial probe (OECP) (85,070E;Agilent Technologies). The results obtained for the dielectric properties were then used as raw data in the numerical computation and simulation of the radiation absorption by the brain tissues for both adolescent and adults bovine brain tissue using finite element method (FEM). The measured dielectric constants varied for the different brain tissue from 54.39 to 39.29. Analysis showed that adolescents tissue absorbed more radiation than adults from mobile phoneradiation which is due to the higher dielectric property of adolescent brain tissue. The results obtained can be applied to human brain tissue since bovine shares the same compositional properties with humans.
