Understanding the Mechanism for the In-Plane Yielding Anisotropy of a Hot-Rolled Zirconium Plate

Previously,the in-plane mechanical anisotropy of Zr hot-rolled plates is ascribed mainly to the different activities of the deformation modes activated when loading along different *** this work,a quantitative study on the deformation behavior of a pure Zr hot-rolled plate under tension along the rolling direction(RD)and transverse direction(TD)reveals that both the activities of deformation modes and the anisotropy of grain boundary strengthening account for a tensile yield strength anisotropy along the TD and *** plasticity simulations using viso-plastic self-consistent model show that prismatic slip is the predominant deformation mode for tension along the RD(RD-tension),while prismatic slip and basal slip are co-dominant deformation modes under tension along the TD(TD-tension).A low fraction of■under TD-tension,while hardly activated under *** activation of basal slip with a much higher critical resolve shear stress under TD-tension contributes to a higher yield strength along the TD than along the *** grain boundary strengthening effect under tension along the TD and RD were compared by calculating the activation stress difference(△Stress)and the geometric compatibility factor(m′)between neighboring *** results indicate a higher grain boundary strengthening for TD-tension than that for RD-tension,which will lead to a higher yield strength along the *** is,the anisotropy of grain boundary strengthening between TD-tension and RD-tension also plays an important role in the in-plane anisotropy along the RD and ***,the reasons for why there is a grain-boundary-strengthening anisotropy along the TD and RD were discussed.

Recent Advances in Researches on Physiologically Active Substances in Holothurians

In this report, we reviewed recent literature on physiologically active substances from sea cucumbers (SCs) andtheir activities together with results obtained from our study. Preventive properties against lipid metabolism were reported inrats using a whole SC preparation with no particular constituent specified. Administration of the preparation lowered serumand hepatic cholesterol levels and improved the HDL/LDL ratio. These functions may be attributed to the stimulatory effectof the extract on the secretion of cholesterol in feces. Novel fucosylated chondroitin sulfates (FCSs) from Ludwigothureagrisea significantly induced fibroblast growth factor 2-dependent angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HU-VECs). The proangiogenetic activity seemed attributable to the action of the sulfated fucose branches on the *** contain mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) that are capable of absorbing UV. A biogenetic precursor of MAAs wasfirst reported in SCs. The anti-proliferative effects of a branched chain fatty acid from a sea cucumber on prostate cancercells was reported with the activity of 5-lipoxygenase. Glycosphingolipid constituents in SCs have been systematically ana-lyzed over the past ten years. The results showed that the gangliosides in several SCs differed from those of mammals in thata sialic acid of SC gangliosides directly binded to glucose of cerebroside. Neuritogenic activity of the glycosphingolipids wasdemonstrated in vitro experiments and may lead to the development of therapeutic products for neurological disorders. Ourstudy also showed that sphingoid bases, the hydrolyzed products of glycosphingolipids from SCs, induced significant apoptosisin several tumor cell lines.

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm caused by hysteroscopic surgery: A case report

BACKGROUND We report a case of uterine artery pseudoaneurysm(UAP)occurrence during hysteroscopic endometrial polypectomy and its treatment via uterine artery embolization(UAE).CASE SUMMARY A 48-year-old primigravid,primiparous patient was incidentally found to have an endometrial polyp during a health checkup,and underwent a hysteroscopic polypectomy at another *** cervix was dilated with a Laminken-R®*** the Laminken-R®was withdrawn,a large amount of genital bleeding was *** bleeding persisted after the hysteroscopic polypectomy,and,as hemostasis became impossible,the patient was transferred to our hospital by *** arrival,transvaginal ultrasonography revealed a 3-cm hypoechoic mass with a swirling internal pulse on the right side of the uterus,and color Doppler ultrasonography showed feeder vessels penetrating the *** contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)confirmed the presence of a mass at this site,and vascular proliferation was observed within the uterine ***,UAP was diagnosed,and UAE was *** patient’s postoperative course was uneventful,and 6 mo post-UAE,no recurrence of blood flow to the UAP was *** When abnormal genital bleeding occurs during hysteroscopic surgery,ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced CT can assist in the detection of early UAPs.

Removal of hexavalent chromium from water by Z-scheme photocatalysis using TiO_(2)(rutile)nanorods loaded with Au core-Cu_(2)0 shell particles

All-solid-state Z-scheme photocatalysts,containing Cu_(2)O,TiO_(2)(rutile),and Au as the elec-tron mediator,were prepared and applied to the reduction of Cr(Ⅵ)in aqueous *** Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composites were prepared by loading Au core-Cu_(2)O shell hemisphere particles on TiO_(2)(rutile)nanorods using a two-step photocatalytic deposition ***-der ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)light illumination,the Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composites exhibited higher photocatalytic Cr(Ⅵ)reduction activities than those exhibited by single TiO_(2)(rutile)and Cu_(2)*** this reaction,a precipitate containing Cr,which was considered to be Cr(OH)_(3),was deposited site-selectively on the Au core-Cu_(2)O shell particles of the composites,indi-cating that the reduction site of the composite was Cu_(2)O,and the reaction proceeded accord-ing to the *** Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composites also exhibited photocatalytic activity under visible light *** oxidation state of Cu in the Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composite gradually changed from Cu(Ⅰ)to Cu(Ⅱ)during the photocatalytic Cr(Ⅵ)*** the composite maintained its high photocatalytic performance even after *** role of Au in the Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composite was examined by comparing the properties of the Cu_(2)O-Au-TiO_(2) composite with those of the Cu_(2)O-TiO_(2) composite prepared via direct Cu_(2)O deposition on TiO_(2).

In-situ observation of twinning and detwinning in AZ31 alloy

Twinning and detwinning behavior of a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy during cyclic compression–tension deformation with a total strain amplitude of 4%(±2%) was evaluated using the complementary techniques of in-situ neutron diffraction, identical area electron backscatter diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. In-situ neutron diffraction demonstrates that the compressive deformation was dominated by twin nucleation, twin growth, and basal slip, while detwinning dominated the unloading of compressive stresses and subsequent tension stage. With increasing number of cycles from one to eight: the volume fraction of twins at-2% strain gradually increased from 26.3% to 43.5%;the residual twins were present after 2% tension stage and their volume fraction increased from zero to 3.7% as well as a significant increase in their number;and the twinning spread from coarse grains to fine grains involving more grains for twinning. The increase in volume fraction and number of residual twins led to a transition from twin nucleation to twin growth, resulting in a decrease in yield strength of compression deformation with increasing cycles. A large number of-component dislocations observed in twins and the detwinned regions were attributed to the dislocation transmutation during the twinning and detwinning. The accumulation of barriers including twin boundaries and various types of dislocations enhanced the interactions of migrating twin boundary with these barriers during twinning and detwinning, which is considered to be the origin for increasing the work hardening rate in cyclic deformation of the AZ31 alloy.

Dualistic role of platelets in living donor liver transplantation: Are they harmful?

New native tissue repair for pelvic organ prolapse:Medium-term outcomes of laparoscopic vaginal stump-round ligament fixation

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse(POP)is a new and widely used approach;however,ever since the United States Food and Drug Administration warned against the use of surgical mesh,repairs performed using patients’tissues[*** tissue repair(NTR)]instead of mesh have attracted much *** our hospital,laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy(the Shull method)was introduced in ***,patients with more severe POP who have a long vaginal canal and overextended uterosacral ligaments may not be candidates for this *** To validate a new NTR treatment for POP,we examined patients undergoing laparoscopic vaginal stump–round ligament fixation(the Kakinuma method).METHODS The study patients were 30 individuals with POP who underwent surgery using the Kakinuma method between January 2020 and December 2021 and who were followed up for>12 mo after *** retrospectively examined surgical outcomes for surgery duration,blood loss,intraoperative complications,and incidence of *** Kakinuma method involves round ligament suturing and fixation on both sides,effectively lifting the vaginal stump after laparoscopic *** The patients’mean age was 66.5±9.1(45-82)years,gravidity was 3.1±1.4(2-7),parity was 2.5±0.6(2-4)times,and body mass index was 24.5±3.3(20.9-32.8)kg/*** to the POP quantification stage classification,there were 8 patients with stage Ⅱ,11 with stage Ⅲ,and 11 with stage Ⅳ.The mean surgery duration was 113.4±22.6(88-148)min,and the mean blood loss was 26.5±39.7(10-150)*** were no perioperative *** of the patients exhibited reduced activities of daily living or cognitive impairment after hospital *** cases of POP recurrence were observed 12 mo after the *** The Kakinuma method,similar to conventional NTR,may be an effective treatment for POP.

Ionomic Profiling of Rice Genotypes and Identification of Varieties with Elemental Covariation Effects

Ionomic profiles are primarily influenced by genetic and environmental *** ionomic responses to varietal effects is necessary to understand the ionomic variations among species or subspecies and to potentially understand genetic effects on ionomic *** cultivated 120 rice(Oryza sativa)varieties to seedling stage in identical hydroponic conditions and determined the concentrations of 26 elements(including 3 anions)in the shoots and roots of *** the subspecies effects were limited by the genus Oryza pre-framework and its elemental chemical properties,we found significant differences in ionomic variations in most elements among the aus,indica and japonica *** component analysis of the correlations indicated that variations in the root-to-shoot ionomic transport mechanisms were the main causes of ionomic differences among the ***,the correlations were primarily associated with the screening of varieties for elemental covariation effects that can facilitate breeding biofortified rice varieties with safe concentrations of otherwise toxic *** japonica subspecies exhibited the strongest elemental correlations and elemental covariation effects,therefore,they showed greater advantages for biofortification than the indica and aus subspecies,whereas indica and aus subspecies were likely safer in metal(loid)polluted *** also found that geographical and historical distribution significantly defined the ionomic ***,the results of this study provided a reference for further association studies to improve the nutritional status and minimize toxicity risks in rice production.

Platelets in liver disease, cancer and regeneration

Although viral hepatitis treatments have evolved over the years, the resultant liver cirrhosis still does not completely heal. Platelets contain proteins required for hemostasis, as well as many growth factors required for organ development, tissue regeneration and repair. Thrombocytopenia, which is frequently observed in patients with chronic liver disease(CLD) and cirrhosis, can manifest from decreased thrombopoietin production and accelerated platelet destruction caused by hypersplenism; however, the relationship between thrombocytopenia and hepatic pathogenesis, as well as the role of platelets in CLD, is poorly understood. In this paper, experimental evidence of platelets improving liver fibrosis and accelerating liver regeneration is summarized and addressed based on studies conducted in our laboratory and current progress reports from other investigators. In addition, we describe our current perspective based on the results of these studies. Platelets improve liver fibrosis by inactivating hepatic stellate cells, which decreases collagen production. The regenerative effect of platelets in the liver involves a direct effect on hepatocytes, a cooperative effect with liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, and a collaborative effect with Kupffer cells. Based on these observations, we ascertained the direct effect of platelet transfusion on improving several indicators of liver function in patients with CLD and liver cirrhosis. However, unlike the results of our previous clinical study, the smaller incremental changes in liver function in patients with CLD who received eltrombopag for 6 mo were due to patient selection from a heterogeneous population. We highlight the current knowledge concerning the role of platelets in CLD and cancer and anticipate a novel application of platelet-based clinical therapies to treat liver disease.
