Stiffness-tuned and ROS-sensitive hydrogel incorporating complement C5a receptor antagonist modulates antibacterial activity of macrophages for periodontitis treatment

Periodontitis is admittedly a microbe-driven intractable infectious disease,in which Porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg)plays a keystone *** can selectively impair the antimicrobial responses of periodontal resident macrophages including their phagocytic and bactericidal activity without interfering their proinflammatory activity,which leads to microflora disturbance,destructive periodontal inflammation and alveolar bone loss ***,an injectable ROS-sensitive hydrogel is developed for releasing active bone marrow-derived macrophages(named ex-situ macrophages hereafter)and a complement C5a receptor antagonist(C5A)to the gingival *** appropriately tuning the hydrogel stiffness,the phagocytic activity of these macrophages is greatly enhanced,reaching an optimal performance at the elastic modulus of 106 ***,C5A avoids undesired C5a receptor activation by Pg to ensure the bacterial killing activity of both the ex-situ and in-situ ***,the ROS-sensitive hydrogels show another distinct feature of decreasing the ROS level in periodontal niche,which contributes to the alleviated periodontal inflammation and attenuated bone loss as *** study highlights the potential of utilizing hydrogels with tailored biomechanical properties to remodel the functions of therapeutic cells,which is expected to find wide applications even beyond periodontitis treatment.

Investigation of adsorption behaviors of paraffin waxes on iron, iron oxide, and iron Ⅲ oxide pipeline's internal surfaces using adsorption locator model

Wax deposition in pipelines leads to pressure drop,reduced effective cross-sectional area,and *** mathematical models and experimental loops were used to model wax precipitation on pipeline surfaces,its prediction at molecular levels is not fully *** dynamics is another powerful approach that can predict wax precipitation at the molecular *** paper uses molecular dynamics simulations with the adsorption locator model found in Material Studio Software to investigate the adsorption behaviors of Icosane-C20H42,Docosane-C22H46,and Tetracosane-C24H50 paraffin waxes on the Fe,FeO,and Fe2O3 pipeline internal *** is performed by varying temperature values and validated with experimental *** was found that as the temperature altered,the adsorption energies,probability energy distribution and adsorption density field on the surfaces also changed;on the other hand,the energetic analysis results showed adsorption energies increase with carbon numbers increase due to its larger surface contacting areas and lower aspect ratio,which resulted in stronger interaction with the ***,paraffin waxes showed to adsorb easily on Fe surfaces than oxide *** temperatures below Wax Appearance Temperature(WAT)on both simulations and experiments showed wax *** lower adsorption energy capacity observed on the Fe2O3 pipeline surface confirms it's vitality and suitability for crude oil transportation pipelines surface lining material.

Experimental study on nucleation process of stick-slip instability on homogeneous and non-homogeneous faults

The nucleation process of stick-slip instability was analyzed based on the experimental measurements of strain and fault slip on homogeneous and non-homogeneous faults. The results show that the nucleation process of stick-slip on the homogeneous fault is of weak slip-weakening behavior under constant loading point velocity. The existence of a short "weak segment" on the fault makes slip-weakening phenomenon in nucleation process more obvious, while the existence of a long "weak segment" on the fault makes the nucleation process changed. The nucleation is characterized by accelerating slip in a local region and rapid increase of shear stress along the fault in this case, which is more coincident with the rate and state friction law. During the period when fault is locked, increasing of shear stress causes lateral elastic dilation near the fault, and the rebound of the dilation at the time of instability causes an instantaneous increase of normal stress in the fault plane, which is an important factor making fault be rapidly locked and its strength recovered.

The cumulative analgesic effect of repeated electroacupuncture involves synaptic remodeling in the hippocampal CA3 region

In the present study, we examined the analgesic effect of repeated electroacupuncture at bilateral zusanfi （ST36） and Yanglingquan （GB34） once a day for 14 consecutive days in a rat model of chronic sciatic nerve constriction injury-induced neuropathic pain. In addition, concomitant changes in calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II expression and synaptic ultrastructure of neurons in the hippocampal CA3 region were examined. The thermal pain threshold （paw withdrawal latency） was increased significantly in both groups at 2 weeks after electroacupuncture intervention compared with 2 days of electroacupuncture. In ovariectomized rats with chronic constriction injury, the analgesic effect was significantly reduced. Electroacupuncture for 2 weeks significantly diminished the injury-induced increase in synaptjc cleft width and thinning of the postsynaptjc density, and it significantly suppressed the down-regulation of intracellular calcium/ calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II expression in the hippocampal CA3 region. Repeated electroacupuncture intervention had a cumulative analgesic effect on injury-induced neuropathic pain reactions, and it led to synaptic remodeling of hippocampal neurons and upregulated calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kjnase II expression in the hippocampal CA3 region.

In this paper,we report the electronics of a timing measurement system of PTB(portable TDC board), which is a handy tool based on USB interface,customized for high precision time measurements without any crates. The time digitization is based on the High Performance TDC Chip(HPTDC).The real-time compensation for HPTDC outputs and the USB master logic are implemented in an ALTERA's Cyclone *** architecture design and logic design are described in *** of the system showed a time resolution of 13.3 ps.

Synthesis and Catalytic Activity of Copper(Ⅱ) Resorcylic Acid Nanoparticles

Copper（ Ⅱ ） resercyiic acid（CuRes） nanoparticles were synthesized by using reactive precipitation method with resorcylic acid and blue copperas as the raw material in a rotating packed bed. The sample obtained was characterized by using X-ray diffraction（XRD）, transmission electron micrescopy（TEM）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, thermo-gravimetric analyses （TG）, and element analysis. In addition, the catalytic activity of CuRes nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of nitrocellulose-nitroglycerine（NC-NG） was also determined via DSC. The results show that the spherical nanoparticles with a diameter of 20 nm were obtained in ethanol solution. The peak temperature of the thermal decomposition of NC-NG-CuRes decreases by 3℃ compared with that of normal CuRes, and the decomposition enthalpy is increased by 735 j/g, and therefore, it is reasonable to assume that CuRes nanoparticles have a better catalytic activity.

Photonic crystal(PC)barcodes are a new type of spectrum-encoding microcarriers used in multiplex high-throughput bioassays,such as broad analysis of biomarkers for clinical diagnosis,gene expression,and cell ***,most of these existing PC barcodes suffered from undesired features,including difficult spectrum-signal acquisition,weak mechanical strength,and high ontology fluorescence,which limited their development to real *** address these limitations,we report a new type of structural color-encoded PC *** barcodes are fabricated by the assembly of monodisperse polydopamine-(PDA-)coated silica(PDA@SiO_(2))nanoparticles using a droplet-based microfluidic technique and followed by pyrolysis of PDA@SiO_(2)(C@SiO_(2))*** of the templated carbonization of adhesive PDA,the prepared C@SiO_(2)PC beads were endowed with simultaneous easy-to-identify structural color,high mechanical strength,and ultralow ontology *** demonstrated that the structural colored C@SiO_(2)barcodes not only maintained a high structural stability and good biocompatibility during the coculturing with fibroblasts and tumor cells capture but also achieved an enhanced fluorescentreading signal-to-noise ratio in the fluorescence-reading *** features make the C@SiO_(2)PC barcodes versatile for expansive application in fluorescence-reading-based multibioassays.

Flow fields control for bubble refinement induced by electromagnetic fields

Large bubbles seriously reduce the efficiencies of the interactions between the bubbles and the molten steel,such as energy transfer,momentum transfer,mass transfer and chemical *** reduce the size of the bubbles and increase the gas–liquid interface area,a novel non-intrusive method of bubble refinement was proposed,which only depends on the molten steel flow field controlled by the rotating electromagnetic *** flow fields of the molten steel for bubble refinement were analyzed,and the corresponding bubble refinement was *** was found that the molten steel formed obvious rotating turbulent flow for bubble refinement under the unidirectional rotating electromagnetic ***,the large vortex in the center of the molten pool caused by the rotating flow made the bubbles aggregate and coalesce again,resulting in formation of larger bubbles and gas *** suppress the central vortex formation and enhance the bubble refinement,the forward-reverse rotating electromagnetic field for bubble refinement was *** irregular and chaotic flow occurred repeatedly because of alternating forward and reverse rotating in a short period,so that the turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent dissipation of the flow field always remained at a high level which favors bubble *** a result,the bubble diameter can decrease by more than 50%compared to that without electromagnetic ***,it is important that this non-intrusive kind of bubble refinement method completely avoids the introduction of non-metallic inclusions caused by intrusive configuration.

Hydrogen generation through seawater electrolysis provides a promising,attractive pathway towards the utilization of sustainable ***,the catalytic activity and stability of oxygen evolution anode are severely limited by the chloride-induced corrosion and competitive oxidation *** this work,we demonstrate an anion-assisted performance improvement strategy by quick and universal screening of electrolyte additive via correlating Cl-repellency with the anionic ***,the addition of phosphate ions is found to enable highly stable alkaline seawater splitting at industry-level current density(0.5 A cm^(-2))over 500 h using transition metal hydroxides as anodic *** situ experiments and theoretical simulations further reveal that the dynamic anti-corrosion behaviors of surface-adsorbed phosphate ions are attributed to three factors including repelling Cl-ions without significantly blocking OH-diffusion,preventing transition metal dissolution and acting as a local pH buffer to compensate the fast OH-consumption under high current electrolysis.

Thermo-kinetic connectivity by integrating thermo-kinetic correlation and generalized stability

Designing structured materials with optimized mechanical properties generally focuses on engineering microstructures,which are closely determined by the processing routes,such as phase transformations(PTs)and plastic deformations(PDs).Both PTs and PDs follow inherent trade-off relation between thermodynamic driving force ΔG and kinetic energy barrier Q,i.e.,so-called thermo-kinetic *** analyzing nucleation and growth and proposing a conception of negative driving force integrating strain energy,interface energy and any kind of energy that equivalently inhibits the PT itself,ΔG^(S),unified expressions for the thermo-kinetic correlation and generalized stability(GS)were derived for three kinds of PTs,i.e.,diffusive PTs with simultaneously decreasedΔG and increased Q,diffusive PTs with simultaneously increasedΔG and decreased Q,and displacive PTs with simultaneously increased ΔG and decreased *** leads to so-called thermo-kinetic connectivity by integrating the thermo-kinetic correlation and the GS,where,by application in typical PTs,it was clearly shown,a criterion of high ΔG-high GS can be predicted by modulating chemical driving force,negative driving force and kinetic energy barrier for diffusion or *** thermo-kinetic connectivity,analogous procedure for dislocation evolution upon PDs was performed,and materials design in terms of the highΔG-high GS criterion was discussed and prospected.
