Fire resistance evaluation through synthetic fire tests and generative adversarial networks

This paper introduces a machine learning approach to address the challenge of limited data resulting from costly and time-consuming fire experiments by enlarging small fire test data sets and predicting the fire resistance of reinforced concrete *** approach begins by creating deep learning models,namely generative adversarial networks and variational autoencoders,to learn the spatial distribution of real fire *** then use these models to generate synthetic tabular samples that closely resemble realistic fire resistance values for reinforced concrete *** generated data are employed to train state-of-the-art machine learning techniques,including Extreme gradient Boost,Light gradient Boosting Machine,Categorical Boosting Algorithm,Support Vector Regression,Random Forest,Decision Tree,Multiple Linear Regression,Polynomial Regression,Support Vector Machine,Kernel Support Vector Machine,Naive Bayes,and K-Nearest Neighbors,which can predict the fire resistance of the columns through regression and *** learning analyses achieved highly accurate predictions of fire resistance values,outperforming traditional models that relied solely on limited experimental *** study highlights the potential for using machine learning and deep learning analyses to revolutionize the field of structural engineering by improving the accuracy and efficiency of fire resistance evaluations while reducing the reliance on costly and time-consuming experiments.

This work provides a new method for pricing options under the generalized stochastic volatility models with Jacobi stochastic *** method is based on the observation that the generalized models belong to the class of polynomial diffusions and therefore the option prices can be efficiently computed via orthogonal polynomial *** take the Heston and Schöbel-zhu models with stochastic correlation as two specific examples and are able to derive the analytical formulas for the option *** also illustrate the accuracy of the proposed method through a number of numerical experiments.

Time-sensitive prediction of NO_(2) concentration in China using an ensemble machine learning model from multi-source data

Nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))poses a critical potential risk to environmental quality and public health.A reliable machine learning(ML)forecasting framework will be useful to provide valuable information to support government *** on the data from1609 air quality monitors across China from 2014-2020,this study designed an ensemble ML model by integrating multiple types of spatial-temporal variables and three sub-models for time-sensitive prediction over a wide *** ensemble ML model incorporates a residual connection to the gated recurrent unit(gRU)network and adopts the advantage of Transformer,extreme gradient boosting(XgBoost)and gRU with residual connection network,resulting in a 4.1%±1.0%lower root mean square error over XgBoost for the test *** ensemble model shows great prediction performance,with coefficient of determination of 0.91,0.86,and 0.77 for 1-hr,3-hr,and 24-hr averages for the test results,*** particular,this model has achieved excellent performance with low spatial uncertainty in Central,East,and North China,the major site-dense *** the interpretability analysis based on the Shapley value for different temporal resolutions,we found that the contribution of atmospheric chemical processes is more important for hourly predictions compared with the daily scale predictions,while the impact of meteorological conditions would be ever-prominent for the *** with existing models for different spatiotemporal scales,the present model can be implemented at any air quality monitoring station across China to facilitate achieving rapid and dependable forecast of NO_(2),which will help developing effective control policies.

Effective operation strategies in the solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)can adjust the spatial distribution of temperature gradient favoring the long-term *** investigate the effects of different operating conditions on the thermal behavior inside SOFC,a three-dimensional model is developed in this *** model is verified by comparing it with the experimental *** heat generation rate and its variation under different operating conditions are *** combined effects of operating voltage and gas temperature are considered to be the key factor influencing the temperature *** to the original case,the temperature of SOFC decreases by 21.4 K when the fuel velocity reaches 5 m/*** the maximum temperature gradient increases by21.2%.Meanwhile,higher fuel velocities can eliminate about 32%of the area with higher temperature *** when the oxidant velocity reaches 7.5 m/s,the peak temperature gradient effectively decreases by 16.59%.Simultaneous adjustment of the oxidant and fuel velocities can effectively reduce the peak temperature gradient and increase the safety *** effects of operation conditions on the temperature gradient of the cell are clarified in this study,which can be a reference for further research on the reliability of SOFCs.

Enrichment of anammox biomass during mainstream wastewater treatment driven by achievement of partial denitrification through the addition of bio-carriers

Anammox is widely considered as the most cost-effective and sustainable process for nitrogen ***,how to achieve the enrichment of anammox biomass remains a challenge for its large-scale application,especially in mainstream wastewater *** this study,the feasibility of enrichment of anammox biomass was explored through the realization of partial denitrification and the addition of *** using ordinary activated sludge,a sequencing batch reactor(SBR)followed by an up-fow anaerobic sludge bed(UASB)was operated at 25±2℃ for 214 *** long-term operation was divided into five phases,in which SBR and UASB were started-up in Phases I and II,*** eliminating oxygen and adjusting the infow ratios in Phases III-V,advanced nitrogen removal was achieved with the effuent total nitrogen being 4.7 mg/L and the nitrogen removal efficiency being 90.5%in Phase *** in-situ and ex-situ activity tests demonstrated the occurrence of partial denitrification and ***,16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that Candidatus Brocadia was enriched from below the detection limit to in biofilms(0.4%in SBR,2.2%in UASB)and the foc sludge(0.2%in SBR,1.3%in UASB),while Thauera was mainly detected in the foc sludge(8.1%in SBR,8.8%in UASB),which might play a key role in partial ***,this study provides a novel strategy to enrich anammox biomass driven by rapid achievement of partial denitrification through the addition of bio-carriers,which will improve large-scale application of anammox processes in mainstream wastewater treatment.

A Novel Method for Forecasting Freak Wave Occurrence in A Short Crested Coastal Sea

In order to forecast the distribution of crest amplitudes and the occurrence of freak waves in a short crested coastal sea,a novel transformed linear simulation method is initially proposed in this paper.A Hermite transformation model expressed as a monotonic cubic polynomial serves as the foundation for the novel simulation *** wave crest amplitude exceedance probabilities of two sea states-one with a directional wave spectrum based on the measured wave elevation data at the Yura coast and the other with a typical directional JONSWAP wave spectrum-have been predicted using the novel simulation method that has been *** likelihood that a particular critical wave crest amplitude will be exceeded is directly correlated with the probability that freak waves will *** is shown that the novel simulation approach suggested can provide predictions that are more precise than those obtained from the Rayleigh crest amplitude distribution model,the Jahns and Wheeler crest amplitude distribution model,or the conventional linear simulation *** study also demonstrated that the nonlinear simulation method is less effective than the novel simulation method in terms of efficiency.
