Antibacterial activity of Lawsonia inermis Linn(Henna) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Objective:To investigate the antibacterial activity of henna(Lawsonia inermis Linn) obtained from different regions of Oman against a wide array of ***:fresh henna samples were obtained from different regions of Oman as leaves and seeds,100 g fresh and dry leaves and SO g of fresh and dry seeds were separately soaked in 500 mL of ethanol for three days,respectively,with frequent *** mixture was filtered,and the crude extract was *** crude extract was then heated,at 48 ℃ in a water bath to evaporate its liquid *** dry crude henna extract was then tested for its antibacterial activity using well-diffusion antibiotic susceptibility *** extracts were investigated for their antibacterial activity at different concentrations against a wide array of different micro-organisms including a laboratory standard bacterial strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa(NCTC 10662)(A aeruginosa) and eleven fresh clinical isolates of *** obtained from patients attending the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital(SQUH).2-Hydroxy-p-Nathoqinone-Tech(2-HPNT, MW=174.16,C_(10)H_40_3) was included as control(at 50%concentration) along with the henna samples ***:Henna samples demonstrated antibacterial activity against all isolates but the highest susceptibility was against *** with henna samples obtained from Al-sharqyia ***:Omani henna from Al-sharqyia region demonstrates high in vitro anti-P. aeruginosa activity compared with many henna samples from different regions of Oman.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the main mediator of the Renin-Angiotensin-System acting on AT1 and other AT receptors. It is regarded as a pleiotropic agent that induces many actions, including functioning as a growth factor, and as a contractile hormone, among others. The aim of this work was to examine the impact of Ang II on the expression and function of α1-adrenergic receptors (α1-ARs) in cultured rat aorta, and aorta-derived smooth muscle cells. Isolated Wistar rat aorta was incubated for 24 h in DMEM at 37˚C, then subjected to isometric tension and to the action of added norepinephrine, in concentration-response curves. Ang II was added (1 × 10−5 M), and in some experiments, 5-Methylurapidil (α1A-AR antagonist), ah11110A (α1B-AR antagonist), or BMY-7378 (α1D-AR antagonist), were used to identify the α1-AR involved in the response. Desensitization of the contractile response to norepinephrine was observed due to incubation time, and by the Ang II action. α1D-AR was protected from desensitization by BMY-7378;while RS-100329 and prazosin partially mitigated desensitization. In another set of experiments, isolated aorta-derived smooth muscle cells were exposed to Ang II and α1-ARs proteins were evaluated. α1D-AR increased at 30 and 60 min post Ang II exposure, the α1A-AR diminished from 1 to 4 h, while α1B-AR remained unchanged over 24 h of Ang II exposure. Ang II induced an increase of α1D-AR at short times, and BMY-7378 protected α1D-AR from desensitization.

The title compound,（E）-5-methoxy-2-（（4-methoxyphenylimino）methyl）phenol（C15H15NO3）,crystallizes in monoclinic,space group P21/c with a=9.4361（6）,b=10.6212（5）,c=12.9338（9）,β=93.064（5）o,V=1294.41（14）3,z=4,Dc=1.320 g/cm3,F（000）=544,Rint=0.116,T=296 K,μ=0.09 mm-1,the final R=0.051 and wR=0.148 for 1836 observed reflections with I2σ（I）.An extensive two-dimensional network of C–H…O hydrogen bonds and π-ring interactions are responsible for the crystal *** hydrogen bonds and C–H…π interactions produce R22（14）,R44（30） and R44（31） *** addition to the molecular geometry from X-ray experiment,the molecular geometry of the title compound in the ground state has been calculated using the semi-empirical（AM1 and PM3） and density functional theory method（DFT）（B3LYP） with 6-31G（d） basis *** determine the conformational flexibility,molecular energy profile of the title compound was obtained by semi-empirical（PM3 and AM1） and DFT/B3LYP calculations with respect to the selected degree of torsional freedom,which varied from –180° to ＋180° in a step of 10°.

As human populations become concentrated in larger,more intensely urbanized areas connected through glob-alization,the relationships of cities to their surrounding landscapes are open to social,ecological,and economic *** particular,the value of access to nature in the form of nearby undeveloped wildland to ur-ban populations implies a relatively novel type of synergistic city-region *** develop a robust and replicable metric-the urban-wildland juxtaposition(UWJ)-that quantifies critical dimensions of the juxtapo-sition of the urbanicity of cities with the quantity of nearby unbuilt wildlands,based on the spatial proximity and relative intensities of these two contrasting system *** a distance-decay gravity model,this analysis provides documentation on the calculation of the UWJ and its component metrics,urbanicity(U)and wildland(W)and then presents U,W,and UWJ metrics for 36 urbanized areas representing all regions of the U.S.,pro-viding the basis for comparisons and *** explore the potential of the metric by testing correlations with“creative class”employment and public health *** UWJ has implications and potential applications for demographic,economic,social,and quality-of-life trends across the *** internationally.

The Islamic awakening demonstrates the following essential ***,it calls for the authentic return to Arab-Islamic heritage,while deeming as heretical several traditional doctrines;second,it strives for Arab unity without recognising the needed concessions that should be given to unify non-Muslim Arabs;third,it is proud of the creativity of Islamic heritage in natural and philosophical fields while rejecting the indebtedness to Greek or zoroastrian influences;fourth,it embraces the Abrahamic path in response to atheistic trends and calling for unity with Jewish and Christian monotheisms,without accepting the possibility of tracing the influence of these traditions on the Qur’an and without admitting the non-Abrahamic traditions such as Hinduism into the spiritual camp;and fifth,it admits the primacy of scientific knowledge,while disparaging its methodological presumptions seen in *** articulation of critical views to resolve these contradictions in the Arab world present creative reformation attempts to harmonise intellectual spheres of identity。

During a survey of mycobiota inhabiting guts of red palm weevil(Rhynchophorus ferrugineus)in Assiut area of Egypt,two interesting yeast isolates were obtained from 2 different gut samples(out of 11 gut samples investigated).Two isolates were identified phenotypically and genotypically with 87%ITS sequencing similarities with the type strain Reniforma *** name Reniforma rhynchophori was assigned for the new *** two strains were deposited in Assiut University Mycological Centre Culture Collection and AUMC numbers 10263^(T)(as the type strain)and AUMC 10264 were *** ITS gene sequences for AUMC 10263^(T)&AUMC 10264 were also deposited at the National Center for Biotechnological Information(NCBI)and accession numbers are given as KX011609 and KX015891 *** description and photos of the new species are *** new species was recorded as the second species of the genus Reniforma.

＜正＞ We investigated whether 7-ketocholesterol. one of the major cholesterol oxides in the lesions, altered resistance of HVSMC to Fas-mediated death pathway. Crosslinking of Fas receptor with agonistic anti-Fas antibody （CH11） in the presence of 7-ketocholesterol induced death in human aorta smooth muscle cells （HAoSMC） as detected by morphology, viability, and DNA fragmentation. The agonistic anti-Fas antibody, however, did not induce death in the presence of 7AAA-hydroxycholesterol or cholesterol. The HAoSMC death was significantly inhibited by an antagonistic Fas receptor （FasR） antibody and by expression of dominant negative Fas-associated death domain containing protein （DN-FADD） using aden-oviruses. Activation of caspase-3 was observed in HAoSMC destined to death. HAoSMC death was significantly inhibited by pharmacological caspase inhibitor. z-VAD and z-DEVD. and baculovirus caspase inhibitor p35. 7-Ketocholesterol impaired mitochondrial transmembrane potential and ATP production. Overexpression of bcl-xL also significantly inhibited HAoSMC death. In dying HAoSMC. bax was translocated from the cytosol to mitochondria and cytochrome c was re leased from mitochondria into the cytosol.
