System.tic Study of nanocrystalline Plasm. Electrolytic nitrocarburising of 316L Austenitic Stainless Steel for Corrosion Protection

A num.er of studies have been reported on the use of nanocrystalline plasm. electrolytic nitrocarburising technology for surface hardening of stainless steels for higher corrosion resistance resulted from.this technique. However, very few studies have focused on the optim.z.tion of the nanocrystalline plasm. electrolytic nitrocarburising process param.ters. In this study, a design of experim.nt （DOE） technique, the Taguchi m.thod, has been used to optim.z. the nanocrystalline plasm. electrolytic nitrocarburising not only for surface hardening but also for the corrosion protection of 316L austenitic stainless steel by controlling the coating processes factors. The experim.ntal design consisted of four factors （Urea concentration, electrical conductivity of electrolyte, voltage and duration of process）, each containing three levels. Potentiodynam.c polariz.tion m.asurem.nts were carried out to determ.ne the corrosion resistance of the coated sam.les. The results were analyz.d with related software. An analysis of the m.an of signal-to-noise （S/n） ratio indicated that the corrosion resistance of nanocrystalline plasm. electrolytic nitrocarburised 316L stainless steel was influenced significantly by the levels in the Taguchi orthogonal array. The optim.z.d coating param.ters for corrosion resistance are 1150 g/L for urea concentration, 360 m./cm.for electrical conductivity of electrolyte, 260 V for applied voltage, 6 m.n for treatm.nt tim.. The percentage of contribution for each factor was determ.ned by the analysis of variance （AnOVA）. The results showed that the applied voltage is the m.st significant factor affecting the corrosion resistance of the coatings.

Pion em.ssion in α-particle interactions with various targets of nuclear em.lsion detector

The behavior of relativistic hadron m.ltiplicity for 4He-nucleus interactions is investigated. The experi- m.nt is carried out at 2.1 A and 3.7 A GeV （Dubna energy） to search for the incident energy effect on the interactions inside different em.lsion target nuclei. Data are presented in term. of the num.er of em.tted relativistic hadrons in both forward and backward angular z.nes. The dependence on the target siz. is presented. For this purpose the statistical events are discrim.nated into groups according to the interactions with H, CnO, Em. and AgBr target nuclei. The separation of events, into the m.ntioned groups, is executed based on Glauber＇s m.ltiple scattering theory approach. Features suggestive of a decay m.ch.nism.seem.to be a characteristic of the backward em.ssion of relativistic hadrons. The results strongly support the assum.tion that the relativistic hadrons m.y already be em.tted during the de-excitation of the excited target nucleus, in a behavior like that of com.ound-nucleus disintegration. Regarding the lim.ting fragm.ntation hypothesis beyond 1 A GeV, the target siz. is the m.in param.ter affecting the backward production of the relativistic hadron. The incident energy is a principal factor responsible for the forward relativistic hadron production, im.lying that this system.of particle production is a creation system. However, the target siz. is an effective param.ter as well as the projectile siz. considering the geom.trical concept regarded in the nuclear fireball m.del. The data are analyz.d in the fram.work of the FRITIOF m.del.

Optical Gain Coefficient m.asurem.nts for 1-(4’-(Diphenylam.no)-[1,1’-biphenyl]-4-yl)ethanone

In this study, the optical gain coefficient due to spontaneous em.ssion for the conjugated com.ound 1-(4’-(diphenylam.no)-[1,1’-biphenyl]-4-yl)ethanone (DBE) in two solvents, Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Dichlorom.thane (DCm. was investigated using the variable stripe length m.thod. The solutions were placed in 10 m. cuvettes and pum.ed optically with n2 laser (337 nm. with pulse duration of 1.2 ns and repetition rate of 10 Hz. A m.xim.m.net gain of 12 cm.m.nus;1 for the com.ound in THF, and 7 cm.m.nus;1 for the com.ound in DCm.were recorded at the input energy of 162 &m.;J. The fluorescence quantum.yields (&em.ty;f) of the com.ound were determ.ned at the excitation wavelength of 337 nm.using coum.rin as a standard. The values of (&em.ty;f) for the sam.les in DCm.and THF solvents were found to be 0.68 and 0.61, respectively. The high values of quantum.yields suggest the possibility of using this m.terial as an active m.dia for lasing and for LED.

The results of the study of the form.tion of graphene layers in the flam. in prem.xed flam. propane or butane-oxygen m.xture on a nickel substrate at atm.spheric pressure and low pressure are given. The influence of the ratio C/O and supply quantity of argon on the form.tion of graphene layers were researched. It is shown that in the flam. of propane and butane on a nickel substrate is observed under these conditions the form.tion of predom.nantly 3 - 10 layers of graphene.

An experim.nt was conducted to test the efficacy of a m.ch.nical barrier around the tree trunk with one spray of Cyperm.thrin @ 1 m./l and turm.ric powder extract @ 15 g/500m. of water applied in integrated approaches against m.ngo m.alybug on m.ngo tree. There were 7 treatm.nts including a control. The treatm.nts were m.ch.nical barrier, Cyperm.thrin spray @ 1 m./l, Turm.ric powder spray @ 15 g/500m. of water, Cyperm.thrin spray + Turm.ric spray, Cyperm.thrin spray + m.ch.nical barrier, Turm.ric + m.ch.nical barrier and untreated control. Three-year-old m.ngo plants grafted from.a 5-year-old m.ngo tree (Variety Am.opali) and planted in pots were used in the experim.nt. The treatm.nt, Cyperm.thrin spray + m.ch.nical barrier gave the highest reduction of m.ngo m.alybug population 87.06% to 93.90% followed by Turm.ric spray + m.ch.nical barrier and showed 81.13% to 86.04% and m.ch.nical barrier alone showed 81.13% to 84.59% population reduction. Turm.ric powder extract showed only (8.42% to 23.77%) population reduction of m.ngo m.alybug which was lowest com.ared to other treatm.nts.

Sim.ltaneous Carbon and nitrogen Rem.val in Wastewater Treatm.nt Using a Partially Packed Biological Aerated Filter （BAF） without Backwashing Process

Biological aerated filter （BAF） is an advanced oxidation process that can sustain high volum.tric loads with high quality effluent. However, backwashing process needed for the system.lim.ts its applicability. This study is to investigate the possibility of rem.ving carbon and nitrogen sim.ltaneously in a biological aerated filter （BAF） with partially packed m.dia without any backwashing process. The upper part of BAF up to 0.5 m.depth is packed with plastic m.dia （Kaldnes K1） with diam.ter and length of 10 m. and 7 m. respectively. This partially packed BAF creates a hybrid system.of attached growth and suspended growth com.ined in a single reactor. Three C：n ratios, i.e. 15, 10 and 4, were com.ared during this study by varying the nitrogen loading while the carbon loading was kept constant at 1.0±0.54 kg COD/（m.3·d）. The organic loading rate （OLR） ratios were calculated based on carbon and TKn loading. The carbon rem.val percentage of 86.7±7.3%, 85.1±10.3%, and 91.0±5.6% and TKn rem.val percentage of 24.7±11.6%, 48.0±25.9% and 62.8±7.9% were achieved after steady-state for the C：n ratio of 15, 10, and 4 respectively. Suspended solid concentration in the effluent was found to be high throughout the treatm.nt, but no clogging occurred during the 4 m.nths of operation period even though backwashing was elim.nated.
