Seizures due to neurocysticercosis(NCC) is a neglected human-to-human transmitted disorder and an emerging problem worldwide.A substantial portion of recent onset seizures is known to be attributed to NCC in Taenia solium(***) endemic areas where populations which neither raise pigs nor eat pig meat are also at *** prevalence of NCC causing epilepsy has been reported in the underdeveloped areas of Southeast Asia(SEA) however,only fragmentary information on its incidence is available in countries like *** Malaysia *** infection was previously thought to be infrequent due to Muslim population majority and the religious prohibition of consuming pork,but it is not totally absent There is an evident lack of knowledge and awareness of the actual burden,routes of transmission,and the impact of NCC in this *** problem is assumed to be more prevalent particularly in cities because of the frequent inflow of possibly *** infected individuals or carriers among those who migrate from neighboring endemic countries to *** issue of imported cases that are likely to be emerging in Malaysia is highlighted *** accurate quantification of regional burdens of epilepsy due to NCC in Malaysia is warranted considering the disease emergence in its neighboring *** is suggested that the importance of NCC be recognized through quantification of its burden,and also to collect epidemiological data for its subsequent elimination in line of World Health Organization's mission for control of cysticercosis as a neglected tropical *** this review the need as well as a strategy for neurc-care center screening of epilepsy cases,and various issues with possible explanations are *** is also proposed that NCC be declared as a reportable disease which is one of the eradicable public health problems in SEA.

AIM： To study the association of three common ABCB11 and ABCC2 polymorphisms （ABCB11： 1331T〉C→V444A; ABCC2： 3563T〉A → V1188E and 4544G 〉A → C1515Y） with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy （ICP） and contraceptive-induced cholestasis （CIC）. METHODS： ABCB11 and ABCC2 genotyping data were available from four CIC patients and from 42 and 33 ICP patients, respectively. Allele-frequencies of the studied polymorphisms were compared with those in healthy pregnant controls and Caucasian individuals. Furthermore, serum bile acid levels were correlated with the presence or absence of the 1331 C allele. RESULTS： The ABCB11 1331T〉C polymorphism was significantly more frequent in cholestatic patients than in pregnant controls： C allele 76.2% （CI, 58.0-94.4） vs 51.3% （CI 35.8-66.7）, respectively （P = 0.0007）; and CC allele 57.1% （CI 36.0-78.3） vs 20% （CI 7.6-32.4）, respectively （P = 0.0065）. All four CIC patients were homozygous carriers of the C allele. In contrast, none of the studied ABCC2 polymorphism was overrepresented in ICP or CIC patients. Higher serum bile acid levels were found in carriers of the 1331CC genotype compared to carriers of the TT genotype. CONCLUSION： Our data support a role for the ABCB11 1331T〉C polymorphism as a susceptibility factor for the development of estrogen-induced cholestasis, whereas no such association was found for ABCC2. Serum bile acid and 7-glutamyl transferase levels might help to distinguish ABCB4- and ABCB11-related forms of ICP and CIC.

Background Children with rare diseases experience challenges at home and school and frequently require multi-disciplinary *** aimed to determine health service utilization by Australian children with rare diseases and barriers to access-ing *** Parents completed an online survey on health professional and emergency department(ED)presentations,hospi-talization,and barriers to accessing *** barriers to service access included residential location(city,regional,remote)and child health-related functioning,determined using a validated,parent-completed measure-of-function *** Parents of 462 children with over 240 rare diseases completed the *** with the general population,these children were more likely to be hospitalized[odds ratio(OR)=17.25,95%confidence interval(CI)=15.50-19.20]and present to the ED(OR=4.15,95%CI=3.68-4.68)or a family physician(OR=4.14,95%CI=3.72-4.60).Child functional impairment was nil/mild(31%),moderate(48%)or severe(22%).Compared to children with nil/mild impair-ment,those with severe impairment were more likely to be hospitalized(OR=13.39,95%CI=7.65-23.44)and present to the ED(OR=11.16,95%CI=6.46-19.27).Most children(75%)lived in major cities,but children from regional(OR=2.78,95%CI=1.72-4.55)and remote areas(OR=9.09,95%CI=3.03-25.00)experienced significantly more barriers to healthcare access than children from major *** included distance to travel,out-of-pocket costs,and lack of specialist medical and other health *** Children with rare diseases,especially those with severe functional impairment have an enormous impact on health services,and better integrated multidisciplinary services with patient-centered care are *** must be improved for children living in rural and remote settings.

Objective:To investigate the effects of different extracts of Anthocleista djalonensis on the testis and epididymal sperms of ***:Fifty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 10 groups(n=5 in each group)and orally treated with 50,100 and 200 mg/kg body weight each of methanol,aqueous ethanol(H-EtOH)and chloroform extracts of *** oil was used as vehicle(2 mL/kg).After 60 days of treatment,testosterone(T)and cholesterol(CHOL)concentrations,catalase(CAT),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase(3β-HSD)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)activities in the testes along with myeloperoxidase(MPO)activities and nitrite concentrations(NO)in the serum and testes as well as sperm quality were ***:T and CHOL concentrations along with 3β-HSD activity were significantly higher in the animals treated with the low dose than in those treated with the high dose of the chloroform extract(PH-Et OH>*** all extracts at all doses showed excellent stimulatory effects on sperm quality(count,motility and morphology),the methanol extract at the high dose was the most effective on sperm count(P<0.05).Conclusion:The chloroform ex
