The realization of lossless metasurfaces with true chirality crucially requires the fabrication of three-dimensional structures,constraining experimental feasibility and hampering practical *** though the threedimensional assembly of metallic nanostructures has been demonstrated previously,the resulting plasmonic resonances suffer from high intrinsic and radiative *** concept of photonic bound states in the continuum(BICs)is instrumental for tailoring radiative losses in diverse geometries,especially when implemented using lossless dielectrics,but applications have so far been limited to planar ***,we introduce a novel nanofabrication approach to unlock the height of individual resonators within all-dielectric metasurfaces as an accessible parameter for the efficient control of resonance features and nanophotonic *** particular,we realize out-of-plane symmetry breaking in quasi-BIC metasurfaces and leverage this design degree of freedom to demonstrate an optical all-dielectric quasi-BIC metasurface with maximum intrinsic chirality that responds selectively to light of a particular circular polarization depending on the structural *** experimental results not only open a new paradigm for all-dielectric BICs and chiral nanophotonics,but also promise advances in the realization of efficient generation of optical angular momentum,holographic metasurfaces,and parity-time symmetry-broken optical systems.

Intragingival injection of Porphyromonas gingivalis-derived lipopolysaccharide induces a transient increase in gingival tumour necrosis factor-a, but not interleukin-6,in anaesthetised rats

This study used in vivo microdialysis to examine the effects of intragingival application of lipopolysaccharide（LPS） derived from Porphyromonas gingivalis（Pg-LPS） on gingival tumour necrosis factor（TNF）-a and interleukin（IL）-6 levels in rats. A microdialysis probe with an injection needle attached to the surface of the dialysis membrane was implanted into the gingiva of the upper incisor. For comparison, the effects of LPS derived from Escherichia coli（Ec-LPS） on IL-6 and TNF-a levels were also analysed. Pg-LPS（1 mg/1 m L） or Ec-LPS（1 or 6 mg/1 m L） was applied by microsyringe, with gingival dialysates collected every hour. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay（ELISA） revealed that gingival dialysates contained approximately 389 pg？m L21 of IL-6 basally; basal TNF-a levels were lower than the detection limit of the ELISA. Pg-LPS failed to alter IL-6 levels but markedly increased TNF-a levels, which remained elevated for 2 h after treatment. Neither IL-6 nor TNF-a were affected by Ec-LPS. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction（RT-PCR） analysis revealed that the gingiva expresses Toll-like receptor（TLR） 2 and TLR4 m RNA. Immunohistochemical examination showed that TLR2 and TLR4 are expressed by gingival epithelial cells. The present study provides in vivo evidence that locally applied Pg-LPS, but not Ec-LPS, into the gingiva transiently increases gingival TNF-a without affecting IL-6. The present results suggest that TLR2 but not TLR4 expressed on gingival epithelial cells may mediate the Pg-LPS-induced increase in gingival TNF-a in rats.

326 species of spiders belonging to 26 families are recorded from the Bolshekhekhtsyrski State Nature Reserve,of them 70 are new records for the reserve and six are new to the fauna of Russia:Asperthorax borealis Ono et Saito,2001; Cyclosa kumadai Tanikawa,1992; Cyclosa okumae Tanikawa,1992(earlier it was identified as C. argenteoalba Bosenberg et Strand,1906); Haplodrassus taepaikensis Paik,1992; Hypselistes fossilobus Fei et Zhu,1993; and Pachygnatha gaoi Zhu et al.,2003. The name Pronous minutus (S. Saito,1939) is synonymized with Pronoides brunneus Schenkel,1936. The male of H. taepaikensis is illustrated for the first time. Composition of the fauna is briefly discussed; 41% of the recorded species have their ranges confined to the SE Palaearctics. By its species diversity,the reserve's fauna is the second largest local fauna eastward of the Urals. An expected spider diversity of this reserve is likely to be over 400 species.

Sediment transport under the presence and absence of emergent vegetation in a natural alluvial channel from Brazil

Studies regarding the influence of emergent vegetation on sediment transport are scarce and have mainly focused on flume *** fill this gap and also meet the international need,we aimed to evaluate the influence of emergent vegetation(Echinodorus macrophyllus) on sediment transport of Capibaribe River,*** and suspended sediment measurements were carried out using the US BLH 84 and US DH 48 samplers,*** of stem diameter,stem spacing and plant density were performed in conjunction with flow and sediment field *** on our results,0.45 m swas the threshold of mean flow velocity supported by *** under field *** value can be helpful for other rivers with gravel-bed river to armoured layer ratio(AR=D)/D=12.50)-natural conditions observed in Capibaribe River-or where the vegetation can provide positive effects,such as increase the bed stability,assist water restoration/rehabilitation and decrease water *** results can hopefully be used in engineering practice and ecosystem *** general,both the drag coefficient and drag force varied inversely and directly with the mean flow velocity and vegetation density,*** vegetation resistance force was inversely proportional to the bedload transport owing to the resistance caused by emergent *** finding was supported by the clear decoupling between nonvegetated and emergent vegetated conditions indicated by cluster *** study results provided a reasonable understanding of the interaction between emergent vegetation,water flow and sediment transport in the Capibaribe River.

Approximation by Splines of Hermite Type

The approximation evaluations by polynomial splines are well-known. They are obtained by the similarity principle;in the case of non-polynomial splines the implementation of this principle is difficult. Another method for obtaining of the evaluations was discussed earlier (see [1]) in the case of nonpolynomial splines of Lagrange type. The aim of this paper is to obtain the evaluations of approximation by non-polynomial splines of Hermite type. Considering a linearly independent system of column-vectors, . Let be square matrix. Supposing that and are columns with components from the linear space such that . Let be vector with components belonging to conjugate space . For an element we consider a linear combination of elements By definition, put . The discussions are based on the next assertion. The following relation holds: where the second factor on the right-hand side is the determinant of a block-matrix of order m + 2. Using this assertion, we get the representation of residual of approximation by minimal splines of Hermite type. Taking into account the representation, we get evaluations of the residual and calculate relevant constants. As a result the obtained evaluations are exact ones for components of generated vector-function .

Association of the level of heteroplasmy of the 15059G>A mutation in the mT-CYB mitochondrial gene with essential hypertension

AIm: To examine whether the heteroplasmy level for 15059G>A mutation in the mitochondrial genome might be associated with essential hypertension. mETHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 196 unrelated participants randomly selected from general population (90 males and 106 females) who underwent a regular medical check-up at the Institute for Ath-erosclerosis Research (moscow, Russia). One hundred and twenty of them (61%) had essential hypertension, and 76 (39%) were apparently healthy normotensive persons. The level of heteroplasmy for 15059G>A mutation occurring in the coding region of cytochrome b gene (mT-CYB) of mtDNA isolated from the blood leukocytes, was quantified using DNA pyrosequencing method. RESULTS: The 15059G>A heteroplasmy level ranged between 4% and 83%, with a median level of 31%. Between the upper and lower quartiles of 15059G>A heteroplasmy distribution, significant differences were observed for patients’ age, systolic blood pressure, and triglyceride levels. 15059G>A heteroplasmy correlated both with age (r = 0.331, P A heteroplasmy, and hypertension independently explains more 5% variability. The 15059G>A heteroplasmy exceeding 31% was found to be significantly associated with a higher risk of essential hypertension (odds ratio 2.76; P (Fisher) 0.019]. The study participants with high 15059G>A heteroplasmy level were found to have significantly higher age (P mpared to those with low 15059G>A heteroplasmy level. These observations suggested a positive correlation between the level of 15059G>A heteroplasmy and essential hypertension. CONCLUSION: This study provides the evidence of association of mtDNA 15059G>A mutation heteroplasmy with essential hypertension.

Tooth agenesis is the most common developmental anomaly of the human dentition. Epilepsy-like disorder (EL) mice, which have a 100% incidence of agenesis of the third molars, may be a good model for the genetic study of human tooth agenesis. Our previous congenic breeding strategy using EL mice confined a major locus for agenesis of m3, designated am3, within an approximately 1 mega base pair (mbp) interval on chromosome 3, which contains five known genes;Lef1, Hadh, Cyp2u1, Sgms2 and Papss1. The aim of this study was to identify the strongest candidate for am3 among the five genes using real-time PCR analysis. The tooth germs of m3 in the bud stage of EL and control mice were dissected out, and total RNA was extracted. In real-time PCR analysis, a significantly low level of expression of Lef1, which is one of the essential transcription factors for early tooth development, was observed in m3 of EL mice. In addition, a significantly low level of expression of Fgf4, which is a direct transcriptional target for LEF1 in early tooth development, was observed in m3 of EL mice. Our results suggest that the cause of m3 agenesis of EL mice may be a low level of Lef1 expression in m3 in the bud stage of EL mice.

Role of sex hormones in gastrointestinal motility in pregnant and non-pregnant rats

AIm: To correlate gastric contractility, gastrointestinal transit, and hormone levels in non-pregnant(estrous cycle) and pregnant rats using noninvasive techniques. mETHODS: Female rats(n = 23) were randomly divided into(1) non-pregnant,(contractility, n =6; transit, n = 6); and(2) pregnant(contractility, n = 5; transit, n = 6). In each estrous cycle phase or at 0, 7, 14, and 20 d after the confirmation of pregnancy, gastrointestinal transit was recorded by AC biosusceptometry(ACB), and gastric contractility was recorded by ACB and electromyography. After each recording, blood samples were obtained for progesterone and estradiol determination. RESULTS: In the estrous cycle, despite fluctuations of sex hormone levels, no significant changes in gastrointestinal motility were observed. Days 7 and 14 of pregnancy were characterized by significant changes in the frequency of contractions(3.90 ± 0.42 cpm and 3.60 ± 0.36 cpm vs 4.33 ± 0.25 cpm) and gastric emptying(168 ± 17 min and 165 ± 15 min vs 113 ± 15 min) compared with day 0. On these same days, progesterone levels significantly increased compared with control(54.23 ± 15.14 ng/m L and 129.96 ± 30.52 ng/mL vs 13.25 ± 6.31 ng/mL). On day 14, we observed the highest level of progesterone and the lowest level of estradiol compared with day 0(44.3 ± 15.18 pg/mL vs 24.96 ± 5.96 pg/mL). CONCLUSION: Gastrointestinal motility was unaffected by the estrous cycle. In our data, high progesterone and low estradiol levels can be associated with decreased contraction frequency and slow gastric emptying.

Introduction:Although an association between metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease(mAFLD)and cardiovascular disease or overall mortality has been reported,it is unclearwhether there is an association between mAFLD and cancer incidence or *** aimed to investigate the differential risk of all-and site-specific cancer incidence and mortality according to mAFLD subgroups categorized by additional etiologies of liver ***:Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database,we stratified the participants into three groups:(1)single-etiology mAFLD(SmAFLD)or mAFLD of pure metabolic origin;(2)mixed-etiology mAFLD(m-mAFLD)or mAFLD with additional etiological factor(s)(i.e.,concomitant liver diseases and/or heavy alcohol consumption);and(3)*** steatosis and fibrosiswere defined using the fatty liver index and the BARDscore,*** proportional hazards regression was performed to estimate the risk of cancer ***:Among the 9,718,182 participants,the prevalence of S-mAFLD and m-mAFLD was 29.2%and 6.7%,*** the median 8.3 years of follow-up,510,330(5.3%)individuals were newly diagnosed with cancer,and 122,774(1.3%)cancer-related deaths occurred among the entire *** with the non-mAFLD group,the risk of all-cancer incidence and mortality was slightly higher among patients in the S-mAFLD group(incidence,adjusted hazard ratio[aHR]=1.03;95%confidence interval[CI]:1.02−1.04;mortality,aHR=1.06;95%CI:1.04−1.08)and highest among patients with m-mAFLD group(incidence,aHR=1.31;95%CI:1.29−1.32;mortality,aHR=1.45;95%CI:1.42−1.48,respectively).The m-mAFLD with fibrosis group(BARD score≥2)showed the highest relative risk of all-cancer incidence(aHR=1.38,95%CI=1.36–1.39),followed by the m-mAFLD without fibrosis group(aHR=1.09,95%CI=1.06–1.11).Similar trends were observed for cancer-related ***:mAFLD classification,by applying additional etiologies other than pure metabolic origi
