Myxomycete diversity in the Tarim basin and eastern Tian-Shan,Xinjiang Prov.,China

We report the results of a survey for myxomycetes in the Chinese province of Xinjiang,covering the northern part of the Tarim basin and the eastern Tian-Shan *** in the hyperarid Tarim basin focused on monospecific Tugai forests;these are park-like stands of the phreatophyte Populus *** a transect from the Tarim basin to the mountains,trees vanish outside the basin,but reoccur at ca.1,400 m elevation as monospecific forests of Picea schrenkiana;the second focal area of the *** a total of 362 substrate samples(245 from the Tarim basin,177 from the mountains)we obtained 477 determinable records of myxomycetes,plus a total of 206 field collections,the latter almost exclusively from the spruce forests in the *** the 80 taxa recorded 53 are represented by field collections,and 32 were found in moist chamber cultures;with a very low overlap in species assemblages found in the field and in *** receiving less than 50 mm annual precipitation,corticolous myxomycetes were common in the Tugai forests,with Physarum pseudonotabile ***.,Didymium anellus,Echinostelium colliculosum and Protophysarum phloiogenum as the most common *** to the Tarim basin(21 taxa)the mountains were much richer in myxomycetes(75 taxa),although the diversity recovered from cultures was comparable(21 vs.28 taxa).Most species from the mountains fruited on decaying spruce,often collected under or even inside the logs due to the extremely dry *** results suggest first that there is no lower limit of annual precipitation for myxomycetes,as long as at least some days with nightly dew fall allow these organisms to complete their life ***,the two examples of surprisingly diverse myxomycete assemblages from monospecific forests demonstrate,that species richness of this group is not necessarily connected with plant diversity of the *** survey is the most eastern of a large-scale study of myxomycete diversity throughout M

Sediment transport under the presence and absence of emergent vegetation in a natural alluvial channel from Brazil

Studies regarding the influence of emergent vegetation on sediment transport are scarce and have mainly focused on flume *** fill this gap and also meet the international need,we aimed to evaluate the influence of emergent vegetation(Echinodorus macrophyllus) on sediment transport of Capibaribe River,*** and suspended sediment measurements were carried out using the US BLH 84 and US DH 48 samplers,*** of stem diameter,stem spacing and plant density were performed in conjunction with flow and sediment field *** on our results,0.45 m swas the threshold of mean flow velocity supported by *** under field *** value can be helpful for other rivers with gravel-bed river to armoured layer ratio(ar=D)/D=12.50)-natural conditions observed in Capibaribe River-or where the vegetation can provide positive effects,such as increase the bed stability,assist water restoration/rehabilitation and decrease water *** results can hopefully be used in engineering practice and ecosystem *** general,both the drag coefficient and drag force varied inversely and directly with the mean flow velocity and vegetation density,*** vegetation resistance force was inversely proportional to the bedload transport owing to the resistance caused by emergent *** finding was supported by the clear decoupling between nonvegetated and emergent vegetated conditions indicated by cluster *** study results provided a reasonable understanding of the interaction between emergent vegetation,water flow and sediment transport in the Capibaribe River.

Determination of Selenium in Marine Aquatic Products by Hydride Generation-atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (HG-AFS)

A method for the analysis of selenium in marine aquatic products by HG-AFS has been investigated. The method is based on the reduction of inorganic selenium to volatile SeH2 which is bubbled out by carrier gas of pure argon, and then swept to ar-H2 flame quarts atomizer to measure its fluorescence intensity. The hydride generation, transportation, atomization and some instrumental parameters were studied by a kind of orthogonal design. The optimum conditions selected are as follows： reactive acidity, 20% HC1; the amount of NaBH4, 4.9mL; gas flow of argon, 600mLmin^-1; atomizing temperature, 200 ℃ ; negative high voltage, - 300V; light current, 100 mA; integral time, 7s. The detection limit of the presented method is 0.072μgL^-1 for selenium. The calibration curve shows a satisfactory line inthe concentration range from 0.000 to 1.000μgL^-1 Se. The recovery is 95.8%-102.2%.

Ovarian Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma with Functioning Stroma Accompanied with Endometrial Endometrioid Adenocarcinoma: Immunohistochemical Study and Literature Review

Background: The ovarian tumors with functioning stroma are defined by the morphological presence of endocrine active cells in stroma, and the clinical, biochemical or pathological evidence of endocrine function. Case Report: The ovarian endometrioid adenocarcinoma with functioning stroma accompanied with endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma was found in 64-year-old post-menopausal woman complaining abnormal genital bleeding and mammary distention. Her preoperative serum 17?-estradiol level was high (53.2 pg/ml) while human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) level was within normal limit. Her right ovary with 8.8 × 5.3 cm in size and tan-yellow in color mostly consisted of solid tumor. Histologically, tumor was composed of estrogen receptor (ER)- and progesterone receptor (PgR)-positive, and androgen receptor (ar)-negative cancerous endometrial cells with aggregates of vacuolated foamy stromal cells resembling luteinized cells. These stromal cells contained lipid droplets, and was immunopositive for α-inhibin and 17?-estradiol. After surgery, serum 17?-estradiol level decreased and became normal (14.2 pg/ml). These findings indicate the production of steroid hormone (17?-estradiol) from the foamy stromal cells and may be correlated with the clinical symptoms. Furthermore, ER- and PgR-positive endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma developed synchronously. However, ovary and uterus were totally immunonegative for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Four other cases from the literature including ours are reviewed. Conclusion: Cancer cells were positive for ER and PgR in both ovary and uterus responded to steroid hormone produced by foamy stromal cells, which played a role in proliferation and progression of ovarian and endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma, respectively.

Autopsy study of anatomical features of the posterior gastric artery for surgical contribution

AIM： To investigate features of the posterior gastric arten/（PGA） with respect to incidence, location and size by using autopsy subjects. METHODS： Autopsies were performed on 72 cadavers of adults with no history of abdominal operations. The localization of the PGA, the distance between the root of the splenic artery and the origin of the PGA, and the external diameter of the PGA were examined. RESULTS： The PGA was recognized in all patients. In 70 （97.2%） cadavers, the PGA branched from the splenic artery, and one female in this group had two PGAs. In 1 （1.4%） patient, the PGA originated from the root of the celiac trunk and in another （1.4%） patient, the PGA branched from the superior polar artery. Overall, the PGA extended for a length of 5.8-12.2 （mean, 8.4） cm from the root of the splenic artery, and the external diameter of the PGA was 1.2-3.2 （mean, 2） mm. CONCLUSION： The anatomical features of the PGA can be readily observed and characterized by autopsy. This study has provided valuable information on the features of the PGA useful in the planning of surgical treatment.
