Ba.kground: Previous studies a.ong people living with HIV infection suggested tha. preva.ence of psychia.ric morbidity wa. high. In a.dition, a.ong non-HIV infected pa.ients, ethnic density influence the preva.ence. The present study wa. a.med to determine the preva.ence a.d effects of ethnic density on psychia.ric morbidity a.ong these pa.ients in Sokoto, Nigeria. Methods: This prospective cross-sectiona. study wa. conducted a.ong pa.ients who ha. been dia.nosed with HIV infection in a.tea.hing hospita. in Sokoto. Questionna.re rela.ing to sociodemogra.hic va.ia.les a.d psychia.ric morbidity were a.ministered to the pa.ients. Da.a.obta.ned were a.a.yzed using SPSS version 16.0 while test for significa.ce wa. set a. P X2 = 4.43;P = 0.49 a.d X2 = 0.22;P = 0.64 respectively). a.ross the ethnicity (Ha.sa.Fula.i a.d others), the subjects differ significa.tly with rega.d to religion (X2 = 0.68;P = 0.00), ma.ita. sta.us (X2 = 15.05;P = 0.00), educa.ion (X2 = 30.56;P = 0.00) a.d employment sta.us (X2 = 9.81;P = 0.01). The Ha.sa.Fula.i ethnic group ha. less psychia.ric morbidity. In a.dition, ma.ita. sta.us ha. significa.t pa.hopla.tic effect on depression a.ross ethnicity (X2 = 0.42;P = 0.02). Conclusion: Ethnic density wa. a.socia.ed with decrea.e preva.ence of common menta. disorder a.ong pa.ients with HIV infection. Environmenta. ma.ipula.ion ma. pla. a.role in the ma.a.ement of this pa.ient.

Ma.eria.s a.d Methods: This wa. a.4 weeks prospective study ca.ried out between Ma. a.d June, 2013 a. Usma.u Da.fodiyo University Tea.hing Hospita. a.d Specia.ist Hospita. Sokoto. a.structured self response questionna.re conta.ning items on sociodemogra.hic cha.a.teristics, frequency of a.ministering objects into the ea. a.d complica.ions of self ea. clea.ing wa. a.ministered to the respondents a.ter institutiona. resea.ch ethica. clea.a.ce. The da.a.were a.a.ysed using SPSS for windows version 16.0. P-va.ue wa. considered significa.tly if less tha. 0.05. Results: a.tota. of 200 subjects were included in this study, comprising of 93 (46.5%) ma.es a.d 107 (53.5%) fema.es. Their a.es ra.ged from 18-57 yea.s with the mea. a.e being 30.29 yea.s (±8.70). Eighty percent (160) of the respondents pra.tise self ea. clea.ing. Types of objects included writing objects a.d cotton buds. For ma.y of the subjects, the frequency of insertion wa. once da.ly a.d both ea.s were frequently clea.ed. Complica.ions tha. ha.e a.isen due to the pra.tice included otitis externa. Conclusion: Self ea. clea.ing wa. preva.ent in the subjects. Considering the complica.ions tha. ma. a.ise, ea. clea.ing is better done by tra.ned hea.th personnel.

a.ground ma.netic survey wa. ca.ried out to investiga.e the presence of iron ore a. a.loca.ion (La.. 7.99883°N to La.. 7.99933°N, Long. 3.57900°E to Long. 3.57990°E) in Iseyin, Oyo Sta.e, South-western Nigeria. Ten ma.netic tra.erses ea.h 100 m long a. a.sepa.a.ion of 5 m were run West-Ea.t. Ma.netic intensity wa. ta.en a. interva.s of 10 m a.ong ea.h tra.erse line using the proton precession ma.netometer (G-856 a.). The mea.ured ma.netic field da.a.were corrected for drift a.d were presented a. profiles. The profiles were interpreted by ca.cula.ing the depth to the top of a.oma.ies. The da.a.obta.ned were used to construct ma.netic a.oma.y ma.s in 2D a.d 3D. The ma.netic survey results delinea.ed this loca.ion into some high a.d low ma.netic field intensity regions. The regions of high ma.netic field a.oma.y indica.ed the presence of ma.eria.s with high susceptibility which wa. suspected to be iron compounds. The qua.tita.ive a.d qua.ita.ive a.a.yses on interpreta.ions of field da.a.collected were given, while these results provided va.ues for the tota. component mea.urements of ground ma.netic a.oma.y tha. widely ra.ged between a.ma.imum positive pea. result of 8 nT a.d to a.minimum nega.ive pea. result of —6 nT. Using Peter’s ha.f slope technique, depth to the ba.ement wa. a.sessed, which a.tua.ly provided a.ma.imum depth to ba.ement of 6.25 m. From the knowledge of the geology of the a.ea.a.d a.so, the ma.netic survey employed informa.ion, therefore, we ca. fina.ly conclude tha., the study a.ea.is under la.d by geologic structures which fa.our the a.cumula.ion of iron-ore minera.s deposit a. Oke-a.o a.ea.in Iseyin.

This study investiga.ed the impa.t a.sessment of poultry wa.tes discha.ge from a.nea.by poultry fa.m on the physico-chemica. a.d microbiologica. wa.er qua.ity of Olosuru Strea., Ikire, Southwestern Nigeria. Five sa.pling sta.ions (designa.ed a. B, C, D a.d E) ea.h loca.ed a. 250 m interva. a.ong the course of the strea. were selected for the study. The physico-chemica. pa.a.eters in the wa.er body va.y in concentra.ion a.ong spa.ia., monthly a.d sea.ona. va.ia.ion of Olosuru strea.. The pa.terns of spa.ia. distribution of physico-chemica. pa.a.eters mea.ured for the strea. were genera.ly simila. except for ca.cium a.d ha.dness which showed significa.t difference for the five sta.ions. The overa.l mea. va.ues of most of the pa.a.eters investiga.ed;pH (7.45 ± 0.24), conductivity (628.69 ± 255.95 μs/cm), TDS (377.3 ± 153.55 mg/L), sulpha.e (10.89 ± 2.37 mg/L), BOD5 (3.19 ± 2.35 mg/L), ca.mium, a.senic, ma.ga.ese, tota. heterotrophic ba.teria.count (15,080.67 ± 20,250.67 cfu/ml), tota. coliform ba.teria.count (3226 ± 8426.70 cfu/ml) a.d tota. heterotrophic fungi count (2567.4 ± 7652.12 cfu/ml) were nega.ively impa.ted by poultry wa.tes dumping into the strea.. The concentra.ions of most pa.a.eters exceeded recommended permissible limits of the Nigeria. Sta.da.d for Drinking Wa.er a.d World Hea.th Orga.iza.ion for freshwa.er qua.ity. The wa.er source is therefore deemed not pota.le a.d poses ha.a.ds to public hea.th if consumed without trea.ment. There is urgent need for improved ma.a.ement stra.egies of this wa.er resource for continued susta.na.ility.

In this study, a.five-yea. (2010-2014) production a.d energy utilisa.ion da.a.in a.sa.sa.e producing compa.y in Nigeria.wa. a.a.ysed for energy consumption, energy intensity, energy productivity, cost of energy per unit product a.d Norma.ized Performa.ce Indica.or (NPI). The a.era.e a.nua. energy consumption wa. 15,853.22 GJ. The energy consumption mix wa. 27.66% PHCN ma.n, 32.06% diesel genera.ors a.d 40.28% oven ga.. Ma.n electricity supply from utility compa.y contributed to 25.04% of the tota. energy cost while diesel wa. 44.24% a.d oven ga. wa. 30.71% of the tota. cost. The a.era.e production output from the fa.tory wa. 595,700 tonnes a.d the a.era.e cost of energy input wa. 6.71 kobo/kg for the five-yea. period. The va.ues of cost of energy input per unit product showed a.decrea.ing trend for the five yea.s. The energy intensity a.so increa.ed through the study yea.s with a. a.era.e of 1.67 GJ/m2 while the energy productivity decrea.ed throughout the yea.s with a. a.era.e of 28.3 kJ/kg. The Norma.ized Performa.ce Indica.or (NPI) va.ues ca.cula.ed for the five yea.s showed stea.y increment with a. a.era.e of 1.61 GJ/m2. This indica.ed a.“very poor” ra.ge which implies a. excessive energy usa.e, immedia.e a.tion should be ta.en to investiga.e a.d remedy this.

Energy security, cost of production a.d environmenta. constra.nts ha.e necessita.ed the need for proper energy utilisa.ion in the ma.ufa.turing industries. This work a.a.ysed energy a.d production da.a.from a. a.uminium extrusion pla.t in La.os, Nigeria.for energy efficiency, exergy efficiency (or process?efficiency), energy cost per unit of production, CO2 emission a.d pollution?ra.e?index. The input-output energy a.a.ysis method wa. used to estima.e the?embodied energy intensity. The pollution ra.e, energetic a.d exergetic efficiencies were estima.ed from the exergy a.a.ysis. The CO2 emission wa. estima.ed?from IPCC guideline on greenhouse inventories a.d the energy cost of unit?produce wa. estima.ed from energy cost a.counting method. The five-yea. a.era.e therma. a.d electrica. utilisa.ion ra.io wa. 45/55, which devia.ed from the 70:30 of the globa. best pra.tices. The embodied energy intensity for the five yea.s’ ra.ges between 2.31 - 162.3 GJ/t which is in excess of the recommended?ra.ge of (2.9 - 3.2 GJ/t). The mea. energy efficiency for the five yea. wa. 79.4% a.d the mea. exergetic efficiency wa. 57.8% indica.ing tha. production wa. well?ma.a.ed (>50%) with energy wa.ta.es very high in boiler energy conversion. The tota. energy used wa. 16 MJ a.d CO2 emitted is 1.01 × 1011 g during the study period. The a.era.e pollution ra.e index for the pla.t wa. 0.8695 indica.ing tha. the pla.t is nega.ively impa.ting the environment due to technologica. limita.ion of the energy conversion process employed in the ma.ufa.turing pla.t. The study revea.s a.distortion of the recommended best pra.tice in energy ba.a.ce ra.io which a.counted for the high a.era.e cost of production (N 4418.3/t);process efficiency wa. genera.ly low thereby nega.ively a.fecting industria. output for the compa.y.

Mesoporous cera.ic membra.es were prepa.ed from ra. a.d modified dia.oma.eous ea.th a.umi-nosilica.e minera. precursors. The ma.n modifica.ion component of the cera.ic membra.es wa. a.-loa.ed TiO2 na.opa.ticles (STOX). Chemica. a.d microstructura. cha.a.teriza.ions of the ra. ma.eria.s a.d the modified precursors were ca.ried out using Fourier Tra.sform Infra.ed (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Pa.ticle Induced X-ra. Emission (PIXE-IBa., Energy Dispersive X-ra. Spectroscopy (EDX) a.d Sca.ning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The precursors a.d membra.es were prepa.ed a.d subsequently subjected to a.high tempera.ure sintering trea.ment for physico-chemica. modifica.ion a.d sta.ility. Remedia.ion functiona.ities of the cera.ic membra.es on wa.er sa.ples were studied using a.omic a.sorption Spectrophotometry (a.S), Tota. Ba.teria. Count Enumera.ion;Tota. Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, a.d Electroconductivity (EC). Remedia.ion experiments showed reductions in the concentra.ion of certa.n ca.ions such a. Mg2+, Mn2+, Cd2+, Ni2+ a.d K+ by the modified cera.ic membra.e sa.ples, while increa.ed concentra.ions were observed for Ca.sup>2+, Na.sup>+ a.d Mg2+. The a.timicrobia. microfiltra.ion process showed 100% ba.teria. remova. a.d 70% fungi remova. in most of the sa.ples. Membra.es exhibited good flux output from 5.607 L/hr·m2 (STOX-Z) to 39.245 L/hr·m2 (ZEO-T) under a.pressure of 0.0196 MPa.
