Electroacupuncture-induced neuroprotection against focal cerebral ischemia in the rat is mediated by adenosine A1 receptors

The activation of adenosine A1 receptors is important for protecting against ischemic brain injury and pretreatment with electroacupuncture has been shown to mitigate ischemic brain insult. The aim of this study was to test whether the adenosine A1 receptor mediates electroacupuncture pretreatment-induced neuroprotection against ischemic brain injury. We first performed 30 minutes of electroacupuncture pretreatment at the Baihui acupoint（GV20）, delivered with a current of 1 mA, a frequency of 2/15 Hz, and a depth of 1 mm. High-performance liquid chromatography found that adenosine triphosphate and adenosine levels peaked in the cerebral cortex at 15 minutes and 120 minutes after electroacupuncture pretreatment, respectively. We further examined the effect of 15 or 120 minutes electroacupuncture treatment on ischemic brain injury in a rat middle cerebral artery-occlusion model. We found that at 24 hours reperfusion,120 minutes after electroacupuncture pretreatment, but not for 15 minutes, significantly reduced behavioral deficits and infarct volumes. Last, we demonstrated that the protective effect gained by 120 minutes after electroacupuncture treatment before ischemic injury was abolished by pretreatment with the A1-receptor antagonist 8-cyclopentyl-1,3-dipropylxanthine（1 mg/kg, intraperitoneally）. Our results suggest that pretreatment with electroacupuncture at the Baihui acupoint elicits protection against transient cerebral ischemia via action at adenosine A1 receptors.

BACKGROUND Acupuncture promotes the recovery of gastrointestinal function and provides analgesia after major abdominal *** effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)remain *** To explore the potential effects of TEAS on the recovery of gastrointestinal function after gastrectomy and colorectal *** Patients scheduled for gastrectomy or colorectal resection were randomized at a 2:3:3:2 ratio to receive:(1)TEAS at maximum tolerable current for 30 min immediately prior to anesthesia induction and for the entire duration of surgery,plus two 30-min daily sessions for 3 consecutive days after surgery(perioperative TEAS group);(2)Preoperative and intraoperative TEAS only;(3)Preoperative and postoperative TEAS only;or(4)Sham *** primary outcome was the time from the end of surgery to the first bowel *** In total,441 patients were randomized;405 patients(58.4±10.2 years of age;247 males)received the planned *** time to the first bowel sounds did not differ among the four groups(P=0.90;log-rank test).On postoperative day 1,the rest pain scores differed significantly among the four groups(P=0.04;Kruskal–Wallis test).Post hoc comparison using the Bonferroni test showed lower pain scores in the perioperative TEAS group(1.4±1.2)than in the sham sti-mulation group(1.7±1.1;P=0.04).Surgical complications did not differ among the four *** TEAS provided analgesic effects in adult patients undergoing major abdominal surgery,and it can be added to clinical practice as a means of accelerating postoperative rehabilitation of these patients.

Criterion of Semi-Markov Dependent Risk model

A rigorous definition of semi-Markov dependent risk model is given. This model is a generalization of the Markov dependent risk model. A criterion and necessary conditions of semi- Markov dependent risk model are obtained. The results clarify relations between elements among semi-Markov dependent risk model more clear and are applicable for Markov dependent risk model.

On the Ricci Curvature of a Randers Metric of Isotropic S-curvature

We derive the integral inequality of a Randers metric with isotropic S-curvature in terms of its navigation representation. Using the obtained inequality we give some rigidity results under the condition of Ricci curvature. In particular, we show the following result： Assume that an n-dimensional compact Randers manifold （M, F） has constant S-curvature c. Then （M, F） must be Riemannian if its Ricci curvature satisfies that Ric 〈 -（n - 1）c^2.

Appropriate autophagy has protective effects on ischemic nerve tissue,while excessive autophagy may cause cell *** inflammatory response plays an important role in the survival of nerve cells and the recovery of neural tissue after *** studies have found an interaction between autophagy and inflammation in the pathogenesis of ischemic *** study outlines recent advances regarding the role of autophagy in the post-stroke inflammatory response as follows.(1)Autophagy inhibits inflammatory responses caused by ischemic stimulation through mTOR,the AMPK pathway,and inhibition of inflammasome activation.(2)Activation of inflammation triggers the formation of autophagosomes,and the upregulation of autophagy levels is marked by a significant increase in the autophagy-forming markers LC3-II and *** stimulates microglia and inhibits ULK1 activity by direct phosphorylation of p38 MAPK,reducing the flux and autophagy level,thereby inducing inflammatory activity.(3)By blocking the activation of autophagy,the activation of inflammasomes can alleviate cerebral ischemic *** can also regulate the phenotypic alternation of microglia through the nuclear factor-κB pathway,which is beneficial to the recovery of neural tissue after *** have shown that some drugs such as resveratrol can exert neuroprotective effects by regulating the autophagy-inflammatory *** studies suggest that the autophagy-inflammatory pathway may provide a new direction for the treatment of ischemic stroke.

Adjoining Batch Markov Arrival Processes of a Markov Chain

A batch Markov arrival process（BMAP） X^＊=（N, J） is a 2-dimensional Markov process with two components, one is the counting process N and the other one is the phase process J. It is proved that the phase process is a time-homogeneous Markov chain with a finite state-space, or for short, Markov chain. In this paper,a new and inverse problem is proposed firstly： given a Markov chain J, can we deploy a process N such that the 2-dimensional process X^＊=（N, J） is a BMAP？ The process X^＊=（N, J） is said to be an adjoining BMAP for the Markov chain J. For a given Markov chain the adjoining processes exist and they are not unique. Two kinds of adjoining BMAPs have been constructed. One is the BMAPs with fixed constant batches, the other one is the BMAPs with independent and identically distributed（i.i.d） random batches. The method we used in this paper is not the usual matrix-analytic method of studying BMAP, it is a path-analytic method. We constructed directly sample paths of adjoining BMAPs. The expressions of characteristic（D_k, k = 0, 1, 2· · ·）and transition probabilities of the adjoining BMAP are obtained by the density matrix Q of the given Markov chain J. moreover, we obtained two frontal Theorems. We present these expressions in the first time.

Impact of oxaliplatin and trastuzumab combination therapy on tumor markers and T lymphocyte subsets for advanced gastric cancer
