Wear-resistant CoCrNi multi-principal element alloy at cryogenic temperature

Traditional high strength engineering alloys suffer from serious surface brittleness and inferior wear performance when servicing under sliding contact at cryogenic temperature.Here,we report that the recently emerging CoCrNi multi-principal element alloy defies this trend and presents dramatically enhanced wear resistance when temperature decreases from 273 to 153 K,surpassing those of cryogenic austenitic steels.The temperature-dependent structure characteristics and deformation mechanisms influencing the cryogenic wear resistance of CoCrNi are clarified through microscopic observation and atomistic simulation.It is found that sliding-induced subsurface structures show distinct scenarios at different deformation temperatures.At cryogenic condition,significant grain refinement and a deep plastic zone give rise to an extended microstructural gradient below the surface,which can accommodate massive sliding deformation,in direct contrast to the strain localization and delamination at 273 K.Meanwhile,the temperature-dependent cryogenic deformation mechanisms(stacking fault networks and phase transformation)also provide additional strengthening and toughening of the subsurface material.These features make the CoCrNi alloy particularly wear resistant at cryogenic conditions and an excellent candidate for safety–critical applications.

Causal relationship between hypertension and epilepsy:a mendelian randomization study

Background Recent studies suggest that hypertension may increase the risk of epilepsy onset,revealing intricate interactions between cardiovascular health and neurological disorders,thus emphasizing the significance of conducting further investigations into their connection.This study aimed to investigate the potential causality between hypertension,either in systolic or diastolic blood pressure,and epilepsy,using a Mendelian randomization strategy.Methods A two-sample Mendelian randomization design was used in this study.We extracted data from the UK Biobank,FinnGen,and the International Consortium of Blood Pressure,utilizing blood pressure-related single nucleotide polymorphisms as instrumental variables to evaluate the influence of hypertension on the risk of epilepsy.Inverse variance weighted,weighted median,and MR-Egger approaches were used for analysis.Results There was a potential association between hypertension,primarily in systolic blood pressure,and an elevated epilepsy risk,while the relationship between hypertension in diastolic blood pressure and epilepsy risk remained inconclusive.Sensitivity analyses suggest an absence of substantial heterogeneity and confounding effects,suggesting the reliability of our findings.Conclusions Our study lays the groundwork for further investigations into the mechanisms of this causal relationship,which may potentially involve vascular change,neuroinflammatory pathways,and alterations in cerebral blood flow,which are crucial for understanding the complex hypertension-epilepsy nexus.

A self-consistent and precise method to determine the time-dependent radiative albedo,i.e.,the ratio of the reemission flux to the incident flux,for an indirect-drive inertial confinement fusion Hohlraum wall material is proposed.A specially designed symmetrical triple-cavity gold Hohlraum is used to create approximately constant and near-equilibrium uniform radiation with a peak temperature of 160 eV.The incident flux at the secondary cavity waist is obtained from flux balance analysis and from the shock velocity of a standard sample.The results agree well owing to the symmetrical radiation in the secondary cavity.A self-consistent and precise time-dependent radiative albedo is deduced from the reliable reemission flux and the incident flux,and the result from the shock velocity is found to have a smaller uncertainty than that from the multi-angle flux balance analysis,and also to agree well with the result of a simulation using the HYADES opacity.

Hydrothermal hydrogenation/deoxygenation of palmitic acid to alkanes over Ni/activated carbon catalyst

To produce paraffin from hydrogenation/deoxygenation of palmitic acid,model compound of bio-oil obtained by hydrothermal liquefaction(HTL)of microalgae has been an attractive focus in recent years.In order to avoid energy-intensive separation process of water and bio-oil,it is of importance that deoxygenation upgrading of fatty acids under hydrothermal conditions similar to HTL process.Herein,it is the first time to explore the application of activated carbon(AC)-supported non-noble-metal catalysts,such as Ni,Co,and Mo,and so on,in the hydrothermal hydrogenation/deoxygenation of long-chain fatty acids,and the obtained Ni/AC-H(the Ni/AC was further H_(2)pre-reduced)is one of the best catalysts.In addition,it is found that the catalytic activity can be further improved by H_(2)pre-reduction of catalyst.Characterization results that are more low valences of nickel and oxygen vacancy can be obtained after H_(2)pre-reduction,thus significant promoting the deoxygenation especially the decarbonylation pathway of fatty acids.The total alkanes yield can reaches 95.9%at optimal conditions(280℃,360 min).This work confirmed that the low-priced AC-supported non-noble-metal catalysts have great potential compared with the noble-metal catalyst,in hydrothermal upgrading of bio-oil.

Effects of weaning on intestinal longitudinal muscle-myenteric plexus function in piglets

Weaning piglets usually suffer from severe diarrhea(commonly known as postweaning diarrhea,PWD)along with intestinal motility disorder.Intestinal peristalsis is mainly regulated by the longitudinal muscle-myenteric plexus(LM-MP).To understand the relationship between intestinal LM-MP function and the development of PWD,we compared the intestinal electrical activity,and the transcriptional profile of the LM-MP between 21-day-old piglets(just weaned,n=7)and 24-day-old piglets(suffered the most severe weaning stress,n=7).The results showed that 24-day-old piglets exhibited different degrees of diarrhea.A significant increase in the slow-wave frequency in the ileum and colon was observed in 24-day-old piglets,while c-kit expression in the intestinal LM-MPs was significantly decreased,indicating that PWD caused by elevated slow-wave frequency may be associated with loss of c-kit.The real-time quantitative PCR(RT-q PCR)and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(EliSA)showed that intestinal LM-MPs in 24-day-old piglets may undergo inflammation and oxidative stress.Significant increases in 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine and decreases in thioredoxin suggest that weaning may lead to DNA damage in the LM-MP of 24-day-old piglets.In addition,activating transcription factor 3 was significantly upregulated,indicating nerve damage in the LM-MP of 24-day-old piglets.The transcriptomic results showed that most of the differentially expressed genes in the ileal LM-MP after weaning were downregulated and closely related to the cell cycle process.Subsequent RT-q PCR analysis showed that the relative expression of p21 was upregulated,while the expression of cyclin A2,cyclin B1,and proliferating cell nuclear antigen was downregulated in the ileal and colonic LM-MP of 24-day-old piglets,suggesting that weaning may inhibit cell proliferation and cause G1/S cell cycle arrest in ileal and colonic LM-MP.In conclusion,weaning may lead to cell cycle arrest by causing DNA damage in the LM-MP,impairing intestinal motility regulation,and ultimately lea

Security-Reliability Tradeoff Analysis for Jamming Aided Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks

In this paper,we explore a cooperative decode-and-forward(DF)relay network comprised of a source,a relay,and a destination in the presence of an eavesdropper.To improve physical-layer security of the relay system,we propose a jamming aided decodeand-forward relay(JDFR)scheme combining the use of artificial noise and DF relaying which requires two stages to transmit a packet.Specifically,in stage one,the source sends confidential message to the relay while the destination acts as a friendly jammer and transmits artificial noise to confound the eavesdropper.In stage two,the relay forwards its re-encoded message to the destination while the source emits artificial noise to confuse the eavesdropper.In addition,we analyze the security-reliability tradeoff(SRT)performance of the proposed JDFR scheme,where security and reliability are evaluated by deriving intercept probability(IP)and outage probability(OP),respectively.For the purpose of comparison,SRT of the traditional decode-and-forward relay(TDFR)scheme is also analyzed.Numerical results show that the SRT performance of the proposed JDFR scheme is better than that of the TDFR scheme.Also,it is shown that for the JDFR scheme,a better SRT performance can be obtained by the optimal power allocation(OPA)between the friendly jammer and user.

Comprehensive Analysis of the Role of Forkhead Box J3(FOXJ3)in Human Cancers

Forkhead box J3(FOXJ3)is a member of the forkhead box(Fox)family.Recently,increasing evidence has revealed the relationship between Fox family members and cancer.FOXJ3 is involved in various types of cancer,including lung cancer,tongue squamous carcinoma,and prostate cancer;however,a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of FOXJ3 remains lacking.Here,we explored the function of FOXJ3 across cancers using online websites and databases including TIMER2.0,Sanger Box,UALCAN,GEPIA2.0,c Bio Portal,CancerSEA,STRING,Bio GRID and Metascape to analyze the role of FOXJ3 in cancers.Abnormal expression of FOXJ3 was found in various tumors.The genetic alteration percentage in tumors was determined,and elevated FOXJ3 expression was found to be associated with worse overall survival in brain lower grade glioma(LGG),liver hepatocellular carcinoma(liHC),sarcoma(SARC)and thyroid carcinoma.Elevated FOXJ3 expression was related to worse prognosis with disease-free survival in adrenocortical carcinoma,LGG and liHC.FOXJ3 expression was related to immune infiltration in several cancers.Enrichment analysis showed that histone modification,the TGF-βsignaling pathway,and chromatin organization were the top three enriched ontology clusters of the top 100 similar genes of FOXJ3.Our pancancer analysis provides comprehensive insights into FOXJ3 from the perspective of bioinformatics in different cancers,where it serves as a potential biomarker for prognosis,especially in LGG and liHC.FOXJ3 is also correlated with immune infiltrates in certain human tumors.

This study aimed to determine the regulatory mechanism of dietary zinc lactate (ZL) supplementation on intestinal oxidative stress damage in a paraquat (PQ)-induced piglet model. Twenty-eight piglets (mean body weight 9.51±0.23 kg) weaned at 28 d of age were randomly divided into control, ZL, PQ, and ZL+PQ groups (n=7 in each group). The ZL-supplemented diet had little effect on growth performance under normal physiological conditions. However, under PQ challenge, ZL supplementation significantly improved average daily gain (Plity. ZL supplementation also enhanced the expression of antioxidant and antiinflammatory factor-related genes and decreased inflammatory cytokine expression and secretion in PQinduced piglets. Furthermore, ZL treatment significantly inhibited the activation of constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) signaling (Pling and gut microbiota.

Thermochemical splitting of CO_(2) on perovskites for CO production: A review

Energy supply dominated by fossil energy has been and remains the main cause of carbon dioxide emissions,the major greenhouse gas leading to the current grave climate change challenges.Many technical pathways have been proposed to address the challenges.Carbon capture and utilization(CCU) represents one of the approaches and thermochemical CO_(2) splitting driven by thermal energy is a subset of the CCU,which converts the captured CO_(2) into CO and makes it possible to achieve closed-loop carbon recirculation.Redox-active catalysts are among the most critical components of the thermochemical splitting cycles and perovskites are regarded as the most promising catalysts.Here we review the latest advancements in thermochemical cycles based on perovskites,covering thermodynamic principles,material modifications,reaction kinetics,oxygen pressure control,circular strategies,and demonstrations to provide a comprehensive overview of the topical area.Thermochemical cycles based on such materials require the consideration of trade-off between cost and efficiency,which is related to actual material used,operation mode,oxygen removal,and heat recovery.Lots of efforts have been made towards improving reaction rates,conversion efficiency and cycling stability,materials related research has been lacking-a key aspect affecting the performance across all above aspects.Double perovskites and composite perovskites arise recently as a potentially promising addition to material candidates.For such materials,more effective oxygen removal would be needed to enhance the overall efficiency,for which thermochemical or electrochemical oxygen pumps could contribute to efficient oxygen removal as well as serve as means for inert gas regeneration.The integration of thermochemical CO_(2) splitting process with downstream fuel production and other processes could reduce costs and increase efficiency of the technology.This represents one of the directions for the future research.
