simulated solar Microwave Radiation Blocks the Formation of Biofilms

The article presents the results of the experimental study that was devoted to determining the blocking influence of the solar microwave radiation on the process of biofilm formation in Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. The microwave generator that allows simulating microwave “splashes” of the sun in the frequency range (4.0 - 4.3 GHz) with the controlled intensity of radiation (from 50 μW/sm2 to 500 μW/sm2) was used for conducting this research. It is found out that the simulated solar radiation of the microwave range blocks the formation of the extracellular matrix by the opportunistic microorganisms. The results of this study confirm the hypothesis of the evolutionary nature of the leading role of the microwave radiation of the sun in the life processes of organisms. The technology of the exposure on the microorganisms that was used in the experiment opens up the real prospects for reducing the persistent potential of microorganisms and improving the efficiency of the bacterial infections treatment.

Prospective study of Infrared-Guided Patient setup for Fractionated Thoracic Radiation

Objective: The standard practice in fractionated radiation of using of visual alignment of tattoos with weekly portal imaging for radiation setup can miss setup errors. We previously reported on the feasibility of using an automated infrared-guided positioning system (iGPs) for daily radiation setup. In this study, we prospectively evaluate whether use of iGPs can improve daily setup errors for patients with thoracic malignancies. Methods: Multiple external infrared markers were placed on patients undergoing thoracic radiation at the time of simulation. Patients were immobilized using vacuum immobilization bag and wing-board. Patients were aligned for treatment using only the iGPs system. Daily portal images were then taken, and shifts in patient position were recorded. Differences between isocenter position using iGPs versus daily portal imaging were calculated. Results: Data were collected for 698 treatment sessions for 27 patients. We found that in 94.0%, 96.4%, and 93.7% of treatment sessions, isocenter position differed between iGPs and daily portal imaging by ≤5 mm in the left/right(L/R), anterior/posterior(A/P), and superior/inferior(s/I) directions, respectively. Isocenter position differed by 5 - 10 mm in 5.7% (L/R), 3.6% (A/P), and 5.9% (s/I) of treatment sessions, and by >10 mm in 0.3% (L/R), 0.0% (A/P), and 0.4% (s/I) of treatment sessions. Three-dimensional shifts were also calculated, with differences in isocenter position as follows: 94.9% ≤5 mm, 5.1% 5 - 10 mm, and 0.2% >10 mm. This compares favorably to our prior studies. Discussion: Daily treatment setup using an infrared-guided patient positioning system, correlates well with daily portal imaging and may help to improve daily treatment setup for patients with thoracic malignancies.

In the work, we offer a brief report by research results demonstrating correlations between energy status of peripheral blood lymphocytes and functional state of vital tissues mitochondria. Basing on our preliminary data, showing correlations between succinate dehydrogenase (sDH) activity in peripheral blood lymphocytes and speed or duration of pyridine nucleotides reduction in mitochondria of rat brain and liver tissues, we propose an idea of using cytobiochemical method of sDH estimation in peripheral blood lymphocytes for evaluation of tissue mitochondria status. The method could be successfully used in clinical practice for early revealing of energy metabolism disturbances that allows preventing disease development and optimizing the diseases therapy.

目的规范化引进达沃斯认知偏差评定量表（Davos Assessment of Cognitive Biases scale,DACOBs）并检验其信度和效度.方法经原作者授权,将英文版DACOBs经过翻译和回译后确定中文版（DACOBs-C）.采用方便抽样方法,选取符合DsM-Ⅳ精神分裂症诊断标准的患者102例（病例组）及某社区居民和在校大学生120名（对照组）完成DACOBs-C,进行项目分析、探索性因素分析和内部一致性检验.同时抽取部分患者完成认知偏差问卷（Cognitive Bias Questionnaire,CBQ）、贝克抑郁量表（Beck Depression Inventory,BDI）、Peter等的妄想问卷（Peters et *** Inventory,PDI）和精神症状评定量表（Psychotic symptoms Rating scale,PsYRATs）以检验效标效度.对病例组和对照组DACOBs-C总分进行独立样本t检验,以检验区分效度.结果（1）根据项目分析的结果,删除条目l、3、12;探索性因素分析中提取出7个因子,共解释方差54.04％,各条目的因子载荷均在0.42 ～***-C总分与CBQ抑郁-歪曲分量表评分呈正相关（r=0.55,P＜0.01）;与BDI总分呈正相关（r =0.61,P＜0.01）;与PDI各分量表评分均呈正相关（r=0.60、0.63、0.56、0.57,均P＜0.01）;与PsYRATs总分呈正相关（r=0.57,P＜0.01）.病例组DACOBs-C总分高于对照组[（139.23 ±33.33）分比（128.05 ±26.50）分,P＜0.05].（2）DACOBs-C的克朗巴赫α系数为0.92（P＜0.01）,7个因子的各个内部一致性克朗巴赫α系数为0.66 ～0.81,量表各因子与总分的相关系数为0.53 ～0.68,各因子间的相关系数为0.30 ～0.63.结论 DACOBs-C的信度、区分效度、结构效度均符合心理测量学要求,可以用于国内精神分裂症认知偏差的研究.

To evaluate patient preferences for sildenafil citrate or tadalafil （PDE-5 inhibitors available for the treatment of erectile dysfunction [ED]） and assess potential reasons for these preferences. Methods： This open-label study was conducted on Korean men taking sildenafil, at least 6 weeks prior to study entry, for ED. Following screening, patients continued sildenafil treatment for 4 weeks, then after a 1-week washout period, switched to tadalafil for 8 weeks. Patients then continued with their treatment of choice during an extension phase. Psychosocial factors （time concern, spontaneity, sexual self-confidence） were evaluated using Psychological and Interpersonal Relation- ship scales （PAIRs）, while timing of dose to sexual attempt patterns were assessed from patient diaries. Results： The present study enrolled 160 Korean men （mean age 55 years） with prior median sildenafil use of 585 days. During the extension phase, 73.7% of patients elected to take tadalafil, whereas 26.3% chose sildenafil （P 〈 0.001）. After switching from sildenafil to tadalafil, mean PAIRs time concern scores decreased from 2.54 to 2.42 （P = 0.002）, with no statistically significant differences observed between the sildenafil and tadalafil assessment phases in sexual spontaneity and self-confidence scores. sexual attempts made 〉 4 h to 〈 36 h post-dose occurred in 4.5% of patients during the sildenafil assessment phase compared with 17.5% during the tadalafil assessment phase. Conclusion： After experiencing both sildenafil and tadalafil, the majority of patients exhibited a preference for tadalafil. This preference might be influenced by psychosocial factors, such as decreased time concerns, and a broader window of opportunity available for sexual activity.

Problems of Rational Therapy for Epilepsy during Pregnancy

Epilepsy is one of the most frequent neurological disorders. In these circumstances, more than 25% of the patients are women of reproductive age. The aim of our research was to analyze the effectiveness and safety of antiepileptic therapy in women with epilepsy during pregnancy and to analyze the pregnancies’ outcomes. We included in our research 121 pregnancies of 101 women aged at the moment of childbearing about 26.9 ± 4.57 years old. Idiopathic forms of epilepsy were predominant among all causes—47.1% (р ses, 65.4% remained seizure-free from generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCs), including 69.6% of all idiopathic epilepsy cases and 68.6% among symptomatic ones. The antiepileptic drugs (AED) dosages were exceeding teratogenic level at the moment of conception in 54.7% of the cases. Worse control of epileptic seizures was associated with Benzobarbital (66.7%) and Lamotrigine (50.0%). Women with epilepsy did not receive specialized neurological therapy before conception in most cases, which leaded to the usage of AED teratogenic doses and less effectiveness of AED during pregnancy. It is necessary to plan the pregnancy and prescribe rational treatment for epilepsy starting at the stage of planning and during gestation in order to obtain a better seizures control and to decrease congenital disorders risk in fetus.

Literature review of type 2 diabetes mellitus among minority Muslim populations in Israel

This review surveys the literature published on the characteristics and implications of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) for the Arab andBedouin populations of Israel. T2 DM is a global health problem. The rapid rise in its prevalence in the Arab and Bedouin populations in Israel is responsible for their lower life expectancy compared to Israeli Jews. The increased prevalence of T2 DM corresponds to increased rates of obesity in these populations. A major risk group is adult Arab women aged 55-64 years. In this group obesity reaches 70%. There are several genetic and nutritional explanations for this increase. We found high hospitalization rates for micro and macrovascular complications among diabetic patients of Arab and Bedouin origin. Despite the high prevalence of diabetes and its negative health implications, there is evidence that care and counseling relating to nutrition, physical activity and self-examination of the feet are unsatisfactory. Economic difficulties are frequently cited as the reason for inadequate medical care. Other proposed reasons include faith in traditional therapy and misconceptions about drugs and their side effects. In Israel, the quality indicators program is based on one of the world's leading information systems and deals with the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes. The program's baseline data pointed to health inequality between minority populations and the general population in several areas, including monitoring and control of diabetes. Based on these data, a pilot intervention program was planned, aimed at minority populations. This program led to a decrease in inequality and served as the basis for a broader, more comprehensive intervention that has entered the implementation stage. Interventions that were shown to be effective in other Arabic countries may serve as models for diabetes management in the Arab and Bedouin populations in Israel.

AIM:To evaluate the prevalence of double negative(DN)sera and the mechanisms responsible for DN ***:sera of inflammatory bowel disease patients treated with infliximab(IFX)were tested for drug/antibodies to infliximab(ATI)trough levels and the proportion of DN results was compared between a commercially available double antigen ELIsA(with labeled IFX as the detection antibody)and an antilambda ELIsA(with anti-human lambda chain detection antibody).Repeat testing with lower than customary serum dilution(1:10)was *** with DN status were matched with IFX+/ATI-controls and were followed-up for subsequent development of nontransient ATI to investigate if DN status precedes ***:Of 67 sera obtained at time of loss of response,only 6/67(9%)were DN by anti-lambda ELIsA compared to 27/67(40%)with double antigen ELIsA(Psher’s Exact test).Of the latter27 sera,22%were also DN by anti-lambda ELIsA,whereas 44%were actually IFX positive(IFX+ATI-),30%were ATI positive(IFX-ATI+)and 4%were double positive(IFX+ATI+).Re-testing using a 1:10 dilution converted most DN results into IFX+and/or ATI+*** with DN status had shorter survival free of non-transient ATI compared with matched controls(log rank test,Pse patients,non transient ATI occurred before and after the event at which the DN serum was obtained,supporting the view that a DN result may represent aparticular time-point along the two curves of ATI titer rise and infliximab drug level ***:DN status may result from false negative detection of IFX or ATI by double antigen ELIsA,suggesting a transitional state of low-level immunogenicity,rather than non-immunological clearance.
