One of important challenges in condensed-matter physics is to realize new quantum states of matter by manipulating the dimensionality of materials,as represented by the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity in atomic-layer pnictides and room-temperature quantum Hall effect in *** sition-metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)provide a fertile platform for exploring novel quantum phenomena accompanied by the dimensionality change,since they exhibit a variety of electronic/magnetic states owing to quantum *** we report an anomalous metal-i nsulator transition in duced by three-dimensional(3D)-two-dimensional(2D)crossover in mono layer 1T-VSe2 grown on bilayer *** observed a complete insulating state with a finite energy gap on the entire Fermi surface in monolayer 1T-VSe2 at low temperatures,in sharp contrast to metallic nature of *** surprisingly,monolayer 1T-VSe2 exhibits a pseudogap with Fermi arc at temperatures above the charge-density-wave temperature,showing a close resemblanee to high-temperature *** similarity suggests a common underlying physics between two apparently different systems,pointing to the importance of charge/spin fluctuations to create the novel electronic states,such as pseudogap and Fermi arc,in these materials.

Laser interference lithography is an attractive method for the fabrication of a large-area two-dimensional planar scale grating,which can be employed as a scale for multi-axis optical encoders or a diffractive optical element in many types of optical ***,optical configurations such as Lloyd's mirror interferometer based on the division of wavefront method can generate interference fringe fields for the patterning of grating pattern structures at a single exposure in a stable *** the fabrication of a two-dimensional scale grating to be used in a planar/surface encoder,an orthogonal two-axis Lloyd's mirror interferometer,which has been realized through innovation to Lloyd’s mirror interferometer,has been *** addition,the concept of the patterning of the two-dimensional orthogonal pattern structure at a single exposure has been extended to the non-orthogonal two-axis Lloyd’s mirror ***,the optical setup for the non-orthogonal two-axis Lloyd's mirror interferometer has been optimized for the fabrication of a large-area scale *** this review article,principles of generating interference fringe fields for the fabrication of a scale grating based on the interference lithography are reviewed,while focusing on the fabrication of a two-dimensional scale grating for planar/surface *** of the pitch of the fabricated pattern structures,whose accuracy strongly affects the performance of planar/surface encoders,is also an important task to be *** this paper,major methods for the evaluation of a grating pitch are also reviewed.

Many industrial products made from fossil fuels cause the problems of global warming,depletion of fossil fuel resources and decrease of the land by *** this report,the amounts of CO2 emissions as the environmental load and the specific energy consumptions as the depletion of fossil fuel resources of biodegradable plastics and conventional plastic as food trays are compared using life cycle assessment *** amount of CO2 emission of PHB(poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate)) tray was the smallest among those of trays of other *** specific energy consumption of SPCL(starch/polycaprolactone) was the smallest among those of trays of other *** clearly reveals that the utilization of the biodegradable plastics is an effective way of alternatives of the conventional plastics.

High Resolution Clinometers for Measurement of Roll Error Motion of a Precision Linear Slide

This paper proposes a new method for measurement of the roll error motion of a slide table in a precision linear slide. The proposed method utilizes a pair of clinometers in the production process of a precision linear slide, where the roll error motion measurement will be carried out repeatedly to confirm whether the surface form errors of slide guideways in the linear slide are su ciently corrected by hand scraping process. In the proposed method, one of the clinometers is mounted on the slide table, while the other is placed on a vibration isolation table, on which the precision linear slide is mounted, so that influences of external disturbances can be cancelled. An experimental setup is built on a vibration isolation table, and some experiments are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Due to the rapid development of applications of artificial intelligence and robotics in recent years, the necessity of reasoning and decision making with uncertain and inaccurate information is increasing. Since robots in the real world are always exposed to behavioral inaccuracies and uncertainty arising from recognition methods, they may occasionally encounter contradictory facts during reasoning on action decision. Paraconsistent logic programming is promising to make appropriate action decisions even when an agent is exposed to such uncertain information or contradictory facts, but there has been no implementation of this programming to the best of our knowledge. We propose a resolution algorithm for the 3-valued paraconsistent logic programming system QMPT0 and its implementation on SWI-Prolog. We also describe an application of the 3-valued paraconsistent logic programming regarding agent decision making.

The feasible resolution of angular displacement measurement by an optical angle sensor based on laser autocollimation is *** the sensor sensitivity while maintaining the noise level of the sensor signal as low as possible is necessary to achieve high-resolution angular displacement *** this paper,the contribution of each component,such as a photodiode,a trans-impedance amplifer,and an analog-to-digital converter in the optical angle sensor,to the noise level of the sensor signal is frst estimated on the basis of theoretical *** feasible sensitivity of the optical angle sensor is also estimated in numerical *** sensitivity of a photodiode element at the edge of its photosensitive area is evaluated in experiments to realize the estimation of the angle sensor *** results are applied to the numerical *** infuences of the measurement laser beam diameter,the spot diameter of the focused laser beam on the photosensitive area,and the focal length of the collimator objective of the optical angle sensor are also consid-ered in the numerical ***,a prototype optical setup is *** are performed to demonstrate that a compact optical angle sensor based on laser autocollimation with a collimator objective having a focal length shorter than 100 mm can achieve a resolution beyond 0.001 arc-second with a bandwidth of 1 *** resolution is better than those achieved by commercial autocollimators employing an image sensor or a position-sensitive *** industrial contribution of this paper lies in the detailed breakdown of noise components in the readout signal of an angle sensor in a practical condition and the systematic estimation of its feasible resolution as well as its sensitivity.

A subloading-friction model is formulated to describe the smooth transient variation from static friction to kinetic friction,the recovery to static friction after the sliding velocity decreases,and the accumulation of sliding displacement under the cyclic loading of contact *** the past relevant studies,however,the model formulation used for simulations is limited to the hypoelastic-based plasticity framework,and the validation of the model is limited to simulations of the test data for metal-to-metal *** this study,the formulation of the subloading-friction model based on a hyperelastic-based plasticity framework is *** the fields of civil,geotechnical,agricultural engineering,and terramechanics,the interaction between soils and metals is critical,as reflected in construction and agricultural machinery,foundation piles,and retaining *** validity of the model for describing the friction between various sands and metals is verified by simulations of the experimental data under monotonic and cyclic loadings.

The rotating stall in a centrifugal compressor with a vaneless diffuser was investigated both experimentally and numerically with focus on the effect of the internal flow field within the impeller on the diffuser *** numerical analysis,the boundary layer separation at the impeller outlet was found to play an important role in the expansion and rotation processes of the diffuser *** particular,the expanded boundary layer separation near the hub side at the outlet of the main blade(M.B.)suction surface passage was considered to be the main cause of the expansion and rotation processes.A longitudinal vortex existed at the throat of the ***,and the mass flow rate in the *** was significantly reduced by the blockage *** addition,the longitudinal vortex induced the rolling up flow near the hub side at the impeller ***,the boundary layer separation expanded.

Neuroinflammation in the brain is thought related to the emergence of various psychoses,although the identifying regional significance,the involvement of immune-cells and lymphocytic activity,and ways for the therapeutic recovery are under the effort of *** recently revealed that the cerebellar acute inflammation causes the symptoms manifested in mood disorders or developmental disorders,which were associated with hyperexcitability due to immune-triggered plasticity and the overconnectivity between the inflamed cerebellum and prefrontal cortex(Yamamoto et al.,2019).
