Improving grain quality is a primary objective in contemporary rice *** modern rice breeding has developed two different types of rice,eating and sake-brewing rice,with different grain characteristics,indicating the selection of variant gene alleles during the breeding *** the critical importance of promptly and efficiently identifying genes selected in past breeding for future molecular breeding,we conducted genome scans for divergence,genome-wide association studies,and map-based ***,we successfully identified two genes,OsMnS and OsWOX9D,both contributing to rice grain *** encodes a mannan synthase that increases the white core frequency in the endosperm,a desirable trait for sake brewing but decreases the grain appearance ***9D encodes a grass-specific homeobox-containing transcription factor,which enhances grain width for better sake ***,haplotype analysis revealed that their defective alleles were selected in East Asia,but not Europe,during modern *** addition,our analyses indicate that a reduction in grain mannan content during African rice domestication may also be caused a defective OsMnS allele due to breeding *** study not only reveals the delicate balance between grain appearance quality and nutrition in rice but also provides a new strategy for isolating causal genes underlying complex traits,based on the concept of“breeding-assisted genomics”in plants.

Background and purpose To analyse the long-term risk of ischaemic stroke and the clinical effects of antithrombotics on the risk of haemorrhagic stroke in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(Sle).Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted using a population-based database taken from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research *** with Sle between 2000 and 2008 were registered and matched with two controls by the index date,age,gender and Charlson Comorbidity Index(CCI).These subjects were followed until either stroke event or 31 December *** HRs(aHRs)for strokes were estimated with Cox regression models,and the cumulative incidence of ischaemic stroke was analysed by log-rank test and Kaplan-Meier survival *** In total,8310 patients with Sle and 16620 patients without Sle were *** general,patients with Sle had higher rates of ischaemic stroke(5.4%vs 3.3%)and haemorrhagic stroke(1.5%vs 0.6%)than in *** multivariate analysis adjusted to age,gender,CCI,urbanisation level and antithrombotics uses,aHRs of all strokes,ischaemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke were 1.73(95%CI:1.54 to 1.94),1.65(95%CI:1.45 to 1.87)and 2.24(95%CI:1.71 to 2.95),respectively,in patients with *** with Sle were significantly more likely to suffer ischaemic stroke than patients without Sle,even 10 years after Sle diagnosis(6.12%vs 3.50%,plet use increased the risk of haemorrhagic stroke in Sle group(aHR=1.74,95%CI:1.18 to 2.57).Conclusions Patients with Sle are at greater risk of developing ischaemic stroke that lasts for 10 *** should be carefully administered to prevent cardiovascular events in patients with Sle due to the risk of haemorrhagic stroke.

随着人工智能民主化的发展,深度神经网络已经被广泛地应用于移动嵌入式设备上,例如智能手机和自动驾驶领域等.随机计算作为一种新兴的、有前途的技术在执行机器学习任务时使用简单的逻辑门而不是复杂的二进制算术电路.它具有在资源(如能源、计算单元和存储单元等)受限的边缘设备上执行深度神经网络低能耗、低开销的优势.然而,之前的关于随机计算的工作都仅仅设计一组模型配置并在固定的硬件配置上实现,忽略了实际应用场景中硬件资源(如电池电量)的动态改变,这导致了低硬件效率和短电池使用时间.为了节省电池供电的边缘设备的能源,动态电压和频率调节技术被广泛用于硬件重配置以延长电池的使用时间.针对基于随机计算的深度神经网络,创新性地提出了一个运行时可重配置框架,即RR-SC,这个框架首次尝试将硬件和软件的重配置相结合以满足任务的时间约束并最大限度节省能源.RR-SC利用强化学习技术可以一次性生成多组模型配置,同时满足不同硬件配置(即不同的电压/频率等级)下的准确率要求.RR-SC得到的解具有最好的准确率和硬件效率权衡.同时,多个模型配置运行时在同一个主干网络上进行切换,从而实现轻量级的软件重配置.实验结果表明,RRSC可以在110 ms内进行模型配置的轻量级切换,以保证在不同硬件级别上所需的实时约束.同时,它最高可以实现7.6倍的模型推理次数提升,仅造成1%的准确率损失.

Hysteresis and Multi-state Behavior of Counterflow Flame in a Blowing Cylindrical Burner

This study focuses on flame hysteresis over a porous cylindrical burner. The hysteresis results from different operation procedure of the experiment. Gradually increasing inflow velocity can transform the envelope flame into a wake flame. The blow-off curve can be plotted by determining every critical inflow velocity that makes an envelope flame become a wake flame at different fuel-ejection velocities. In contrast, decreasing the inflow veiocity can transform the wake or lift-off flame into an envelope one. The reattachment curve can be obtained by the same method to explore the blow-off curve, but the intake process is reverse. However, these two curves are not coincident, except the origin. The discrepancy between them is termed as hysteresis, and it results from the difference between the burning velocities associated with both curves. At the lowest fuel-ejection velocity, no hysteresis exists between both curves owing to nearly no burning velocity difference there. Then, raising the fuel-ejection velocity enhances hysteresis and the discrepancy between the two curves. However, as fuel-ejection velocity exceeds a critical value, the intensity of hysteresis almost keeps constant and causes the two curves to be parallel to each other.

Acute lung injury （ALl） or acute respiratory distress syndrome （ARDS） can be associated with various disorders. Recent investigation has involved clinical studies in collaboration with clinical investigators and pathologists on the pathogenetic mechanisms of ALl or ARDS caused by various disorders. This literature review includes a brief historical retrospective of ALI/ARDS, the neurogenic pulmonary edema due to head injury, the long-term experimental studies and clinical investigations from our laboratory, the detrimental role of NO, the risk factors, and the possible pathogenetic mechanisms as well as therapeutic regimen for ALI/ARDS.

Degree of nutrient consumption as an aging index of upwelling or vertically mixed water in the northern Taiwan Strait

In order to determine the relative aging status of upwelled or vertically mixed water in the northern Taiwan Strait, a recently developed method of calculating the degree of nutrient consumption (DNC) was employed. Upwelling was detected at a water depth of about 75 m in summer. Bottom waters in the aphotic zone and newly-upwelled waters in the euphoric zone were found to be low in terms of their DNC. In general, a low DNC was noted alongside the other traditional upwelling indicators, such as lower temperature and degree of oxygen saturation, but higher salinity, apparent oxygen utilization, nutrient contents and chlorophyll-a. Enhanced vertical mixing, but without an apparent upwelling signal, was detected near the same location in winter.
