Genome-wide identification of the CONSTANS-LIKE(COL)family and mechanism of fruit senescence regulation by PpCOL8 in sand pear(Pyrus pyrifolia)

Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai‘Whangkeumbae'is a sand pear fruit with excellent nutritional quality and taste.However,the industrial development of pear fruit is significantly limited by its short shelf life.Salicylic acid(SA),a well-known phytohormone,can delay fruit senescence and improve shelf life.However,the mechanism by which SA regulates CONSTANS-LIKE genes(COLs)during fruit senescence and the role of COL genes in mediating fruit senescence in sand pear are poorly understood.In this study,22 COL genes were identified in sand pear,including four COLs(Pp COL8,Pp COL9a,Pp COL9b,and Pp COL14)identified via transcriptome analysis and 18 COLs through genome-wide analysis.These COL genes were divided into three subgroups according to the structural domains of the COL protein.Pp COL8,with two B-box motifs and one CCT domain,belonged to the first subgroup.In contrast,the other three Pp COLs,Pp COL9a,Pp COL9b,and Pp COL14,with similar conserved protein domains and gene structures,were assigned to the third subgroup.The four COLs showed different expression patterns in pear tissues and were preferentially expressed at the early stage of fruit development.Moreover,the expression of Pp COL8 was inhibited by exogenous SA treatment,while SA up-regulated the expression of Pp COL9a and Pp COL9b.Interestingly,Pp COL8 interacts with Pp MADS,a MADS-box protein preferentially expressed in fruit,and SA up-regulated its expression.While the production of ethylene and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)were increased in Pp COL8-overexpression sand pear fruit,the antioxidant enzyme(POD and SOD)activity and the expression of Pp POD1 and Pp SOD1 in the sand pear fruits were down-regulated,which showed that Pp COL8 promoted sand pear fruit senescence.In contrast,the corresponding changes were the opposite in Pp MADS-overexpression sand pear fruits,suggesting that Pp MADS delayed sand pear fruit senescence.The co-transformation of Pp COL8 and Pp MADS also delayed sand pear fruit senescence.The results of this study revealed that Pp COL8 can pl

This paper is concerned with the valuation of single and double barrier knock-out call options in a Markovian regime switching model with specific rebates.The integral formulas of the rebates are derived via matrix Wiener-Hopf factorizations and Fourier transform techniques,also,the integral representations of the option prices are constructed.Moreover,the first-passage time density functions in two-state regime model are derived.As applications,several numerical algorithms and numerical examples are presented.

Wildfire episodes have become more frequent and severe in recent years.1 Record-breaking fires devastated the Arctic,Amazon,and Australia in 2019–2020.This year,fires began in Canada in May and lasted for several months,resulting in an area burned of 16.5 million hectares by early September.This size is 6–7 times the annual fire area for a normal year in Canada.The favorable fire weather for burning and spread lasted for months(https://cwfis.***.nrcan.***.ca/maps/fw).Furthermore,most Canadian fires occur in remote regions far from firefighting facilities,causing fire extinction to be difficult.Unfortunately,such“unprecedented”fire events occurred routinely in boreal regions between 2020 and 2023,although the locations varied from year to year(Figure 1).

The pan-Arctic is confronted with air pollution transported from lower latitudes.Observations have shown that aerosols help increase plant photosynthesis through the diffuse radiation fertilization effects(DRFEs).While such DRFEs have been explored at low to middle latitudes,the aerosol impacts on pan-Arctic ecosystems and the contributions by anthropogenic and natural emission sources remain less quantified.Here,we perform regional simulations at 0.2o×0.2ousing a well-validated vegetation model(Yale Interactive terrestrial Biosphere,YIBs)in combination with multi-source of observations to quantify the impacts of aerosol DRFEs on the net primary productivity(NPP)in the pan-Arctic during 2001-19.Results show that aerosol DRFEs increase pan-Arctic NPP by 2.19 Pg C(12.8%)yr^(-1)under clear-sky conditions,in which natural and anthropogenic sources contribute to 8.9% and 3.9%,respectively.Under all-sky conditions,such DRFEs are largely dampened by cloud to only 0.26 Pg C(1.24%)yr^(-1),with contributions of 0.65% by natural and 0.59% by anthropogenic species.Natural aerosols cause a positive NPP trend of 0.022% yr^(-1)following the increased fire activities in the pan-Arctic.In contrast,anthropogenic aerosols induce a negative trend of-0.01% yr^(-1)due to reduced emissions from the middle latitudes.Such trends in aerosol DRFEs show a turning point in the year of 2007 with more positive NPP trends by natural aerosols but negative NPP trends by anthropogenic aerosols thereafter.Though affected by modeling uncertainties,this study suggests a likely increasing impact of aerosols on terrestrial ecosystems in the pan-Arctic under global warming.

The poor corrosion resistance of magnesiumlithium alloy surface works against its application in aerospace,automobile,electronics,etc.In this research,some kinds of non-toxic and non-polluting rare earth and silane(RE-Si)composite conversion coatings were built up on Mg-Li alloy surface,and formation process of coatings was investigated.The parameters for coating preparation were determined,including immersion time and temperature,pH value of conversion solution and curing time.The optimized technological parameters for preparation of RE-Si composite coating were finally confirmed.The influence of doping nanoparticles on RE-Si composite coating was also discussed,and the microstructure of coatings shows that the addition of nanoparticles can effectively improve the compactness and uniformity of composite coating.The corrosion resistance of specimens with RE-Si composite conversion coating is improved to a great extent compared with those of substrate or specimens with single rare earth(RE)conversion coating or with silane coating.The result also indicates that corrosion resistance of RE-Si composite coating doping with nanoparticles is further improved.Composition of the composite coatings was analyzed,and the effect of RE elements and silane on coating formation process was investigated.Corrosion resistance mechanism of composite coatings on Mg-Li alloy surface was discussed.

AIM:To analyze the distribution of refractive status in school-age children with different corneal curvatures(CC)and the correlation between CC and refractive status.METHODS:A total of 2214 school-aged children of grade 4 in Hangzhou who were screened for school myopia were included.Uncorrected distance visual acuity(UCDVA),non-cycloplegic refraction,axial length(AL),horizontal and vertical corneal curvature(K1,K2)were measured and spherical equivalent(SE),corneal curvature radius(CCR)and axial length/corneal radius of curvature ratio(AL/CR)were calculated.UCDVA<5.0 and SE≤-0.50 D were classified as school-screening myopia.According to the different CCRs,the patients were divided into the lower corneal curvature(LCC)group(CCR≥7.92)and the higher corneal curvature(HCC)group(CCR<7.92).Each group was further divided into the normal AL subgroup and the long AL subgroup.The refractive parameters were compared to identify any differences between the two groups.RESULTS:Both SE and AL were greater in the LCC group(P=0.013,P<0.001).The prevalence of myopia was 38% in the LCC group and 44% in the HCC group(P<0.001).The proportion of children without screening myopia was higher in the LCC group(62%)than in the HCC group(56%).Among these children without screening myopia,the proportion of long AL in the LCC group(24%)was significantly higher than that in the HCC group(0.012%;P<0.001).The change of SE in the LCC group was less affected by the increase of AL than that in the HCC group.CONCLUSION:School-aged children in the LCC group have a lower incidence of screening myopia and longer AL.Low CC can mask SE reduction and AL growth to some extent,and the change of AL growth change more in children with low CC than high CC.Before the onset of myopia,its growth rate is even faster than that after the onset of myopia.

The rapid development of computational technology and the increasing energy demand have improved heat exchanger network(HEN)synthesis.The HEN synthesis involves several optimizations of matches,distributions of heat loads,and stream splitting of heat units.Thus,obtaining good results at high efficiency has been the main standard for evaluating the techniques in the research area of HEN synthesis.This paper first summarizes and analyzes the main contributions of the existing HEN synthesis techniques.To compare related data quantitively,information on ten typical cases is presented in this paper.Furthermore,recently improved solutions for commonly encountered existing literature cases demonstrate the evolution and competition trends in the field of HEN synthesis.The comparison data presented in this paper not only provide a useful reference for future research but also present the optimization directions.Based on the findings of this study,it is noted that there is still a large room for improvement,and current approaches are incapable of dealing with all HEN cases.Moreover,it is still difficult to escape a local optimum and overcome structural constraints when seeking the global optimum.As a follow-up to the current work,the parallel computing mode and adaptively coordinating the ratio of global and local searching abilities are major development trends for future investigation.

Bromine-Graphite Intercalation Enabled Two-Electron Transfer for a Bromine-Based Flow Battery

Br_(2)/Br^(−)is a promising redox couple in fl ow batteries because of its high potential,solubility,and low cost.However,the reaction between Br^(−)and Br_(2)only involves a single-electron transfer process,which limits its energy density.Herein,a novel two-electron transfer reaction based on Br^(−)/Br^(+) was studied and realized through Br^(+) intercalation into graphite to form a bromine-graphite intercalation compound(Br-GIC).Compared with the pristine Br^(−)/Br_(2)redox pair,the redox potential of Br intercalation/deintercalation in graphite is 0.5 V higher,which has the potential to substantially increase the energy density.Diff erent from Br_(2)/Br^(−)in the electrolyte,the diff usion rate of Br intercalation in graphite decreases with increasing charge state because of the decreasing intercalation sites in graphite,and the integrity of the graphite structure is important for the intercalation reaction.As a result,the battery can continuously run for more than 300 cycles with a Coulombic effi-ciency exceeding 97%and an energy effi ciency of approximately 80%at 30 mA/cm^(2),and the energy density increases by 65%compared with Br^(−)/Br_(2).Combined with double-electron transfer and a highly reversible electrochemical process,the Br intercalation redox couple demonstrates very promising prospects for stationary energy storage.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of rigid gas permeable contact lens(RGP-CL) on corneal morphological parameters and vision-related quality of life in keratoconus(KC) patients.METHODS: Totally 57 eyes of 30 KC patients who were followed-up for more than two years, including 17 RGP wearers(32 eyes) and 13 non-wearers(25 eyes) were retrospectively analyzed. Initial medical history and corneal topography were collected at baseline. Corneal topography, corneal aberration, optical coherence tomography, and vision-related quality of life questionnaires were performed at the last follow-up.RESULTS: According to corneal topography, increase of the flattest keratometric values was higher in RGP wearers than in non-wearers(P=0.038). The morphological parameters, including symmetry index of front corneal curvature(P=0.004) and Baiocchi-Calossi-Versaci index front(P=0.047), were lower in RGP wearers than in nonwearers. Vertical coma was smaller in RGP wearers than non-wearers in 3.0, 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 mm pupil diameters, respectively(P0.05).CONCLUSION: Long-term use of RGP does not worsen KC but may cause corneal epithelial remodeling to increase symmetry of corneal anterior surface, reduce corneal vertical coma and improve visual quality. However, RGP wearing causes a slight decrease in vision-related quality of life. The occurrence of ocular surface symptoms is mainly associated with environmental triggering factors.
