Quantized neural networks (QNNs), which use low bitwidth numbers for representing parameters and performing computations, have been proposed to reduce the computation complexity, storage size and memory usage. In QNNs, parameters and activations are uniformly quantized, such that the multiplications and additions can be accelerated by bitwise operations. However, distributions of parameters in neural networks are often imbalanced, such that the uniform quantization determined from extremal values may underutilize available bitwidth. In this paper, we propose a novel quantization method that can ensure the balance of distributions of quantized values. Our method first recursively partitions the parameters by percentiles into balanced bins, and then applies uniform quantization. We also introduce computationally cheaper approximations of percentiles to reduce the computation overhead introduced. Overall, our method improves the prediction accuracies of QNNs without introducing extra computation during inference, has negligible impact on training speed, and is applicable to both convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural networks. Experiments on standard datasets including ImageNet and Penn Treebank confirm the effectiveness of our method. On ImageNet, the top-5 error rate of our 4-bit quantized GoogLeNet model is 12.7%, which is superior to the state-of-the-arts of QNNs.

A low MgO content in sinter is conducive to reduce the MgO content in blast furnace *** study investigated the effect of MgO content in sinter on the softening–melting behavior of the mixed burden based on fluxed *** the MgO content increased from 1.31 wt% to 1.55 wt%, the melting temperature of sinter increased to 1521℃.Such an increase was due to the formation of the high-meltingpoint slag *** reduction degradation index of sinter with 1.31 wt% MgO content was better than that of *** initial softening temperature of the mixed burden increased from 1104 to 1126℃ as MgO content in sinter increased from 1.31 wt% to 1.55 wt%, and the melting temperature decreased from 1494 to 1460℃.The permeability index(S-value) of mixed burden decreased to 594.46 kPa·℃ under a high MgO content with 1.55 wt%, indicating that the permeability was *** slag phase composition of burden was mainly akermarite(Ca_(2)MgSiO_(7)) when the MgO content in sinter was 1.55 wt%.The melting point of akermarite is 1450℃, which is lower than other phases.

High Expression of ERCC1 Is a Poor Prognostic Factor in Chinese Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Receiving Cisplatin-based Therapy

Objective： to determine the role of excision repair cross-complementing group 1 gene （ERCC1） and ribonucleotide reductase subunit M1 （RRM1） expression in predicting response and survival in Chinese patients with advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC） treated with platinum-based chemotherapy. Methods： Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded biopsy tissues were retrospectively obtained from 160 advanced NSCLC patients. mRNA expression levels of ERCC1 and RRM1 were determined by real-time PCR. Results： Associations between mRNA expression level of ERCC1 and RRM1 and clinic-pathologic parameters were analyzed. One handred and forty two （88.75%） specimens were successfully amplified. mRNA expression level of ERCC1 and RRM1 was negatively associated with tumor response. ERCC1 expression levels ranged from 0.01 to 78.79 [median 0.63, mean 4.25 and standard deviation （SD） 9.23] and RRM1 from 0.00 to 30.91 （median 0.63, mean 0.87 and SD 3.36）. By adopting cut-off values according to median expression levels, we found that MST in patients with low ERCC1 mRNA levels was significantly longer in overall population than in patients with higher levels （18.63 versus 13.69 months, log-rank 5.73, P=0.017）, but we did not found the survival benefit of the patients with low expression level of RRM1. （19.07 versus 14.88, log-rank 1.66, P=0.197）. Further, in the multivariable Cox regression model analysis we found that low level of ERCC1 expression, the presence of weight loss and target therapy, were significant prognostic factors for survival. Conclusion： ERCC1 expression is associated with patients’ survival in Chinese advanced NSCLC patients treated with platinum-based regimen and may serve as a biomarker in predicting tumor response and clinical outcome in the patient population.

Objective:To study the effects of the generation 4 polyamidoamine/vascular endothelial growth factor antisense oligodeoxynucleotide(G4PAMAM/VEGFASODN) compound on the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and its mRNA of breast cancer cells and on the inhibition of vascular endothelial cells. Methods:We examined the morphology of G4PAMAM/VEGFASODN compound and its pH stability,in vitro transfection efficiency and toxicity,and the expressions of VEGF and its mRNA. Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay was used to detect the inhibitory function of the compound on vascular endothelial cells. Results:The compound was about 10 nm in diameter and was homogeneously netlike. From pH 5 to 10,it showed quite a buffered ability. The 48-h transfection rate in the charge ratio of 1:40 was 98.76%,significantly higher than that of the liposome group(P<0.05). None of the transfection products showed obvious toxicity on the cells. The expressions of both VEGF protein and its mRNA after G4PAMAM/VEGFASODN transfection decreased markedly. Conclusion:With a low toxicity,high safety,and high transfection rate,G4PAMAM/VEGFASODN could be a promising gene vector. Specifically,it inhibits VEGF gene expression efficiently,laying a basis for further in vivo animal studies.

Glucose appears to have an antagonistic relationship with ethylene and ethylene and polyamines appear to play antagonistic roles in the abortion of seeds and fruits. Moreover, ethylene, spermidine, and spermine share a common biosynthetic precursor. The synchronous changes of them and the relationships with kernel set are currently unclear. Here, we stimulated maize （Zea mays L.） apical kernel set and studied their changes at 4, 8, 12, and 16 d after pollination （DAP）. The status of the apical kernels changed from abortion to set, showing a pattern similar to that of the middle kernels, with slow decrease in glucose and rapid decline in ethylene production, and a sharp increase in spermidine and spermine after four DAP. Synchronous changes in ethylene and spermidine were also observed. However, the ethylene production decreased slowly in the aborted apical kernels, the glucose and polyamines concentrations were lower. Ethephon application did not block the change from abortion to set for the setting apical kernels. These data indicate that the developmental change may be accompanied by an inhibition of adequate glucose to ethylene synthesis and subsequent promotion of spermidine and spermine synthesis, and adequate carbohydrate supply may play a key role in the developmental process.

Dripping and evolution behavior of primary slag bearing TiO2 through the coke packed bed in a blast-furnace hearth

To investigate the flow of primary slag bearing TiO2 in the cohesive zone of blast furnaces, experiments were carded out based on the laboratory-scale packed bed systems. It is concluded that the initial temperature of slag dripping increases with decreasing FeO content and increasing TiO2 content. The slag holdup decreases when the FeO content is in the range of 5wt%-10wt%, whereas it increases when the FeO content exceeds 10wt% . Meanwhile, the slag holdup decreases when the TiO2 content increases from 5wt% to 10wt% but increases when the TiO2 content exceeds 10wt%. Moreover, slag/coke interface analysis shows that the reaction between FeO and TiO2 occurs be- tween the slag and the coke. The slag/coke interface is divided into three layers： slag layer, iron-rich layer, and coke layer. TiO2 in the slag is reduced by carbon, and the generated Ti diffuses into iron.

Prokinetic effects of a ghrelin receptor agonist GHRP-6 in diabetic mice

AIM： To investigate the effects of a ghrelin receptor agonist GHRP-6 on delayed gastrointestinal transit in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. METHODS： A diabetic mouse model was established by intraperitoneal injection with alloxan. Mice were randomized into two main groups： normal mice and diabetic mice treated with GHRP-6 at doses of 0, 20, 50, 100 and 200 μg/kg ip. Gastric emptying （GE）, intestinal transit （IT）, and colonic transit （CT） were studied in mice after they had a phenol red meal following injection of GHRP-6. Based on the most effective GHRP-6 dosage, atropine was given at 1 mg/kg for 15 rain before the GHRP-6 injection for each measurement. The mice in each group were sacrificed 20 min later and the percentages of GE, IT, and CT were calculated. RESULTS： Percentages of GE, IT, and CT were significantly decreased in diabetic mice as compared to control mice. In the diabetic mice, GHRP-6 improved both GE and IT, but not CT. The most effective dose of GHRP-6 was 200 μg/kg and atropine blocked the prokinetic effects of GHRP-6 on GE and IT. CONCLUSION： GHRP-6 accelerates delayed GE and IT, but has no effect on CT in diabetic mice. GHRP-6 may exert its prokinetic effects via the cholinergic pathway in the enteric nervous system, and therefore, has therapeutic potential for diabetic patients with delayed upper gastrointestinal transit.

The Xi'an Proton Application Facility(XiPAF)is a facility dedicated to the experimental simulation of the space radiation *** facility uses a compact synchrotron as its final-stage *** synchrotron can accelerate a proton beam from 7 to 230 *** design results show that the radio frequency(RF) acceleration system should work in the frequency range of 1—6 MHz and provide a maximum voltage of >800 *** dilute the strong space charge effect during the injection period,we also aim to achieve multiharmonic acceleration.A compact RF acceleration system loaded with magnetic alloy cores has been designed and developed to fulfill these *** preliminary test results show that the system can work normally with a gap voltage of 800 *** a further RF power upgrade,the voltage can be improved to >1:2 kV.
