Glycogen synthase kinase-3β inhibitor SB216763 promotes DNA repair in ischemic retinal neurons

Glycogen synthase kinase-3β(GSK-3β) has been shown to attenuate DNA damage in nerve cells, thereby enhancing neuronal survival under pathological conditions;however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. An in vitro serum-starvation retinal neuron model and in vivo ischemia/reperfusion retina injury rat model were established and treated with SB216763, a GSK-3β inhibitor. SB21673 decreased the formation of γ-H2 A histone family member X foci and enhanced the viability of ischemic retinal neurons. In addition, SB216763 upregulated expression of phosphorylated-CREB1, a ligase IV transcription factor, and significantly increased the transcriptional activity of ligase IV in ischemic retinal neurons. These results were confirmed in rat retinas following ischemia/reperfusion injury. Furthermore, we found that unlike lithium chlorine(a well-known direct inhibitor of GSK-3β), SB216763 inhibited GSK-3β activity by suppressing its phosphorylation. Taken together, our results suggest that GSK-3β inhibition enhances repair of DNA double-strand breaks by upregulating ligase IV expression in ischemic retinal neurons. A CuI coated Cu hybrid nanostructure by partial iodation of Cu nanowires was used as hole transport material(HTM) to enhance the charge transfer in inverted perovskite solar cells(PSCs). The outer CuI achieved efficient charge extraction, and the inner copper facilitated the extracted charges to be rapidly transferred, further improving the overall cell performance. Furthermore,we employed a mixture of [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester(PCBM) and ZnO nanoparticles as electron transport material(ETM) to achieve the fabrication of stable PSCs. The best efficiency was up to 18.8%. This work represents a fundamental clue for the design of efficient and stable PSCs using the chemical in-situ construction strategy for HTM and integration of PCBM and ZnO as ETM.

In this work, low-density electric current pulse （ECP） has been applied to submerged entry nozzle （SEN） and its effect on the morphology of the inclusion buildup and the distribution of the inclusions in slab has been explored. The results reveal that under the unique effects of ECP, part of small inclusions less than 10 μm is expelled through the boundary layer along the current direction to form dense inclusion buildup. This method is of great potential to prolong the service life of SEN and improve the quality of the steel product.

g-C_(3)N_(4)emerges as a promising metal-free semiconductor photocatalyst due to its cost-effectiveness,facile synthesis,suitable visible light response,and robust thermal ***,its practical application in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)is impeded by rapid carrier recombination and limited light absorption *** this study,we successfully develop a novel g-C_(3)N_(4)-based step-scheme(S-scheme)heterojunction comprising two-dimensional(2D)sulfur-doped g-C_(3)N_(4)nanosheets(SCN)and one-dimensional(1D)FeCo_(2)O_(4)nanorods(FeCo_(2)O_(4)),demonstrating enhanced photocatalytic HER *** engineered SCN/FeCo_(2)O_(4)S-scheme heterojunction features a well-defined 2D/1D heterogeneous interface facilitating directed interfacial electron transfer from FeCo_(2)O_(4)to SCN,driven by the lower Fermi level of SCN compared to FeCo_(2)O_(4).This establishment of electron-interacting 2D/1D S-scheme heterojunction not only facilitates the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers,but also enhances visible-light absorption and mitigates electron-hole pair *** structure analysis and density functional theory calculations corroborate that the carrier migration in the SCN/FeCo_(2)O_(4)photocatalyst adheres to a typical S-scheme heterojunction mechanism,effectively retaining highly reactive photogenerated ***,the optimized SCN/FeCo_(2)O_(4)heterojunction exhibits a substantially high hydrogen production rate of 6303.5μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1)under visible light excitation,which is 2.4 times higher than that of the ***,the conjecture of the S-scheme mechanism is confirmed by in situ XPS *** 2D/1D S-scheme heterojunction established in this study provides valuable insights into the development of high-efficiency carbon-based catalysts for diverse energy conversion and storage applications.

Effects of pressure on structure and dynamics of metallic glass-forming liquid with miscibility gap

The metallic liquid with miscibility gap has been widely explored recently because of the increasing plastic deformation ability of phase-separated metallic glass. However, the poor glass-forming ability limits its application as the structural materials due to the positive mixing enthalpy of the two elements. Since high pressure is in favor of the formation of the glass, the effect of pressure on the structural and dynamical heterogeneity of phase-separated CusoAgso liquid is inves- tigated by molecular dynamics simulation in the pressure range of 0-16 GPa. The results clearly show that the pressure promotes the formation of metallic glass by increasing the number of fivefold symmetry cluster W and dynamical relaxation time; meanwhile, the liquid-liquid phase separation is also enhanced, and the homogenous atom pAlrs show stronger interaction than heterogeneous atom pAlrs with increasing pressure. The dynamical heterogeneity is related to the formation of fivefold symmetry clusters. The lower growing rate of W at higher pressure with decreasing temperature corresponds to the slow increase in dynamical heterogeneity. The pressured glass with miscibility gap may act as a candidate glass with improved plastic formation ability. The results explore the structural and dynamical heterogeneity of phase-separated liquid at atomic level.

Nitrogen can increase the strength of steels without weakening the toughness and improve the corrosion resistance at the same time. Compared with conventional nitrogen-free die steels, a new type of nitrogen-containing die steel was developed with many superior properties, such as high strength, high hardness, and good toughness. This paper focused on the effects of heat treatment on the microstruc- tures and mechanical properties of the new type of nitrogen-containing die steel, which were investigated by the optimized deformation process and heat treatment. Isothermal spheroidal annealing and high-temperature quenching as well as high-temperature tempering were ap- plied in the experiment by means of an orthogonal method after the steel was multiply forged. The mechanical properties of nitro- gen-containing die steel forgings are better than the standard of NADCA #207-2003.

Most current lattice Boltzmann （LBM） models suffer from the deficiency that their parameters have to be obtained by fitting experimental results. In this paper, we propose a new method that integrates the molecular dynamics （MD） simulation and LBM to avoid such defect. The basic idea is to first construct a molecular model based on the actual components of the rock-fluid system, then to compute the interaction force between the rock and the fluid of different densities through the MD simulation. This calculated rock-fluid interaction force, combined with the fluid-fluid force determined from the equation of state, is then used in LBM modeling. Without parameter fitting, this study presents a new systematic approach for pore-scale modeling of multi-phase flow. We have validated this ap- proach by simulating a two-phase separation process and gas-liquid-solid three-phase contact angle. Based on an actual X-ray CT image of a reservoir core, we applied our workflow to calculate the absolute permeability of the core, vapor-liquid H20 relative permeability, and capillary pressure curves.

This paper proposes a simple and discriminative framework, using graphical model and 3D geometry to understand the diversity of urban scenes with varying viewpoints. Our algorithm constructs a conditional random field （CRF） network using over-segmented superpixels and learns the appearance model from different set of features for specific classes of our interest. Also, we introduce a training algorithm to learn a model for edge potential among these superpixel areas based on their feature difference. The proposed algorithm gives competitive and visually pleasing results for urban scene segmentation. We show the inference from our trained network improves the class labeling performance compared to the result when using the appearance model solely.
