CT diagnosis of 52 patients with lymphoma in abdominal lymph nodes

AIM： To assess CT manifestations and its diagnostic value for lymphoma in the abdominal lymph nodes （LALN）.METHODS： CT findings in 52 cases of LALN proved by surgery or biopsy, including Hodgkin＇s disease （HD） in 16 cases and non-Hodgkin＇s lymphoma （NHL） in 36 cases, were retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS：（1） CT manifestations based on distribution of the lesions of LALN： Solitary mass type was found in 10 cases, including solitary, round, uniform-density, enlarged lymph nodes in 3 cases; and multiple, enlarged lymph nodes fusing into singular Iobular mass in 7 cases. Thirty-feur cases of multiple-nodular type showed multiple, round, enlarged lymph nodes with uniform density and clear margins. Vessels-embedded signs, including mesenteric vessels, renal vessels, abdominal aorta or inferior vena cava, were seen in 6 cases, and duodenum-embedded signs were seen in 2 cases. Eight cases of diffuse type showed characteristic ＂cobblestone signs＂. （2） CT manifestations correlated with pathological type： CT manifestations of 12 cases of HD were different from those of 40 cases of NHL in distribution, size, quantity and fused lesion of enlarged lymph nodes. （3） Twenty-eight cases of 52 patients were accompanied with extra-nodal lymphoma in the abdomen, especially gastrointestinal lymphoma, which had characteristic CT findings. （4） In follow-up examinations, CT images showed uniform, heterogeneous or rim enhancement in 15 cases, and occasional calcifications accompanied with reduction of the lesion size and quantity in 12 cases, whereas the lesions disappeared in 3 cases after treatment.CONCLUSION： CT images show many characteristic manifestations valuable for qualitative diagnosis of LALN, and it is also helpful for pathological classification of LALN and therapeutic evaluation in follow-up of patients.

Effects of Selenium and Zinc on Renal Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis Induced by Fluoride in Rats

Objective To study the effects of selenium and zinc on oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cell cycle changes in rat renal cells induced by fluoride. Methods Wistar rats were given distilled water containing sodium fluoride （50 mg/L NaF） and were gavaged with different doses of selenium-zinc preparation for six months. Four groups were used and each group had eight animals （four males and four females）. Group one, sham-handled control; group two, 50 mg/L NaF; group three, 50 mg/L NaF with a low dose of selenium-zinc preparation （0.1 mg/kg Na2 SeO3 and 14.8 mg/kg ZnSO4 · 7H2O）; and group four, 50 mg/L NaF with a high dose of selenium-zinc preparation （0.2 mg/kg Na2 SeO3 and29.6 mg/kg ZnSO4 · 7H20）. The activities of serum glutathione peroxidase （GSH-Px）, kidney superoxide dismutase （SOD）, and the levels of malondialdehyde （MDA） and glutathione （GSH） in the kidney were measured to assess the oxidative stress. Kidney cell apoptosis and cell cycle were detected by flow cytometry. Results NaF at the dose of 50 mg/L increased excretion of fluoride in urine, promoted activity of urine γ -glutarnyl transpeptidase （ γ -GT）, inhibited activity of serum GSH-PX and kidney SOD, reduce kidney GSH content, and increased kidney MDA. NaF at the dose of 50 mg/L also induced rat renal apoptosls, reduced the cell number of G2/M phase in cell cycle, and decreased DNA relative content significantly. Selenium and zinc inhibited effects of NaF on oxidative stress and apoptosis, promoted the cell number of G2/M phase in cell cycle, but failed to increase relative DNA content significantly. Conclusion Sodium fluoride administered at the dose of 50 mg/L for six months induced oxidative stress and apoptosis, and changes the cell cycle in rat renal cells. Selenium and zinc antagonize oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cell cycle changes induced by excess fluoride.

The goal of this paper is to design a model-free optimal controller for the multirate system based on reinforcement ***-data control systems are widely used in the industrial production process and multirate sampling has attracted much attention in the study of the sampled-data control *** this paper,we assume the sampling periods for state variables are different from periods for system *** this condition,we can obtain an equivalent discrete-time system using the lifting ***,we provide an algorithm to solve the linear quadratic regulator(LQR)control problem of multirate systems with the utilization of matrix *** on a reinforcement learning method,we use online policy iteration and off-policy algorithms to optimize the controller for multirate *** using the least squares method,we convert the off-policy algorithm into a model-free reinforcement learning algorithm,which only requires the input and output data of the ***,we use an example to illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the model-free algorithm above mentioned.

Asymmetric association of rainfall and atmospheric circulation over East Asia with anomalous rainfall in the tropical western North Pacific in summer

It is well known that precipitation anomalies in the tropical western North Pacific （WNP） significantly affect circulation and rainfall in East Asia during summer. In this study, the authors further investigated this relationship, by examining the anomalies associated with positive and negative precipitation anomalies in the tropical WNP. The results suggest these anomalies are asymmetric between the enhanced and suppressed WNP rainfall. Positive precipitation anomalies over the WNP, in comparison with their negative counterparts, are more closely related to the meridional teleconnection pattern and rainfall anomalies along the East Asian rain belt. The implications of the results are discussed.

The neuroprotective function of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF) in ischemic stroke was rarely *** study aimed to investigate the effects of early treadmill exercise on recovery from ischemic stroke and to determine whether these effects are associated with the expression levels of MIF and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) in the ischemic area.A total of 40 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to the ischemia and exercise group [middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)-Ex,n = 10),ischemia and sedentary group(MCAO-St,n = 10),sham-surgery and exercise group(Sham-Ex,n= 10),or sham-surgery and sedentary group(Sham-St,n = 10).The MCAO-Ex and MCAO-St groups were subjected to MCAO for 60 minutes,whereas the Sham-Ex and Sham-St groups were subjected to an identical operation without *** in the MCAO-Ex and Sham-Ex groups then ran on a treadmill for 30 minutes once a day for 5 consecutive *** reperfusion,the hanging time tested by the wire hang test was longer and the relative fractional anisotropy determined by Mri was higher in the peri-infarct region of the MCAO-Ex group compared with the MCAO-St *** expression levels of MIF and BDNF in the peri-infarct region were upregulated in the MCAO-Ex *** MIF and BDNF levels were positively correlated with relative fractional anisotropy changes in the peri-infarct *** was no significant difference in the levels of MIF and BDNF in the peri-infarct region between the Sham-Ex and Sham-St *** study demonstrated that early exercise(initiated 48 hours after the MCAO) could improve motor and neuronal recovery after ischemic ***,the increased levels of MIF and BDNF in the peri-infarct region(penumbra) may be one of the mechanisms of enhanced neurological function *** experiments were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee in Asan Medical Center in South Korea(2016-12-126).

Formation of spherical alloy microparticles in a porous salt medium

This study describes the development of a one-pot strategy to produce spherical alloy microparticles for advanced near-net-shape manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing and powder injection molding. The Al Si12 eutectic alloy(ca. 12 wt% Si) system was chosen as the model with which the main experiments were carried out. The proposed process synergistically integrates a few common,low-cost processing techniques including the mixing of Al micrometer size particles with silicon and sodium chloride, heat-treating the mixture at temperatures of 650–810°C, and the dissolution of salt in water to produce spherical Al Si12 alloy particles without the need to rely on costly melting and atomizing techniques. This new process can use laow-cost source Al and Si powders as the raw materials to produce10–200 um-sized spherical particles of Al Si12. The Ansys-CFX computational fluid dynamics software was used to analyze the flow behavior of Al Si12 liquid droplets and particle size refinement in the narrow voids of the sample.

Tailoring of Mechanical Properties of Indirect Hot Stamping Steel Tubes by Laser Assisted Local Rapid Heating

The effect of laser assisted local heating on the mechanical properties of a hot stamping steel tube was in vestigated. A heated region with a spiral shape was generated on the surface of the tube by combining the linear movement of the laser and the rotation of the tube. The results of axial crush tests show that the laser assisted local heating can be effectively used to modify the mechanical performance of the tube. A microstructural analysis confirms that the laser locally induces a martensitic phase transformation in the heated region and results in inhomogeneous microstructures alon- the length of the tube.

The micro structure and properties of as-cast Zr-2.5Nb-1X(X=Ru,Mo,Ta and Si) alloy are screened to explore novel biomedical zirconium alloys for magnetic resonance *** micro structure and phase transformation were characterized using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM)and transmission electron microscope(TEM).Hardness test,magnetic detection and electrochemical corrosion measurements are taken to present *** results show that all alloys consist of α-Zr,β-Zr and ω-Zr.α-Zr and β-Zr mainly exist in the form of parallel and intersecting plates,and nanoscale ω-Zr is dispersed in β-Zr ***,blocky ω-Zr with needle-like α-Zr is only found in plate-free blocks of Zr-2.5Nb-1Mo/Ru *** orientation relationship(OR) between α-Zr and ω-Zr follows [1120]_α//[1101]_ω and(0001)_α//([1011]_ω 011)_ω.Combining this OR with the OR between β-Zr and ω-Zr,the transformation relationship between β-Zr/ω-Zr and α-Zr is also ***-2.5Nb-1Ru alloy with high corrosion potential(-0.500 V),low corrosion rate(0.949 μm·year^(-1)) and low magnetic susceptibility(92×10^(-6)) shows great potential to be a novel biomedical implant with magnetic resonance imaging *** on the experimental results,the possible relationship among alloying elements,micro structure and properties has been established in these Zr-2.5Nb-1X alloys.

Decreasing Trend in Summer Precipitation over the Western Sichuan Basin since the 1950s

Changing precipitation in the densely populated Sichuan basin may have a great impact on human life. This study analyzes the change in summer precipitation since 1951 over the western Sichuan basin, one of the regions of the heaviest rainfall in China, by using two datasets provided by the Chinese Meteorological Data Center. The results indicate that summer (from June to September) precipitation over the western Sichuan basin shows a significantly decreasing trend. The summer precipitation over this region has decreased by about 20% since the 1950s, with a rate of decrease of about 40 mm per decade.

Revisiting Asymmetry for the Decaying Phases of El Ni?o and La Ni?a

This study investigated the relationship be- tween the asymmetry in the duration of El Nifio and La Nina and the length of their decaying phases. The results suggested that the duration asymmetry comes from the long decaying ENSO cases rather than the short decaying ones. The evolutions of short decaying El Nino and La Nina are approximately a mirror image with a rapid decline in the following summer for the warm and cold events. However, a robust asymmetry was found in long decaying cases, with a prolonged and re-intensified La Nina in the following winter. The asymmetry for long decaying cases starts from the westward extension of the zonal wind anomalies in a mature winter, and is further contributed to by the air-sea interaction over the tropical Pacific in the following seasons.
