Calbindin D-28K （CB）, a Ca2＋-binding protein, maintains Ca2＋ homeostasis and protects neurons against various insults. Hyperthermia can exacerbate brain damage produced by ischemic insults. However, little is reported about the role of CB in the brain under hyperthermic condition during ischemic insults. We inves- tigated the effects of transient global cerebral ischemia on CB immunoreactivity as well as neuronal damage in the hippocampal formation under hyperthermic condition using immunohistochemistry for neuronal nuclei （NeuN） and CB, and Fluoro-Jade B histofluorescence staining in gerbils. Hyperthermia （39.5 ＋ 0.2~C） was induced for 30 minutes before and during transient ischemia. Hyperthermic ischemia resulted in neu- ronal damage/death in the pyramidal layer of CA1-3 area and in the polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In addition, hyperthermic ischemia significantly decreaced CB immunoreac- tivity in damaged or dying neurons at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In brief, hyperthermic condition produced more extensive and severer neuronal damage/death, and reduced CB immunoreactivity in the hippocampus following transient global cerebral ischemia. Present findings indicate that the degree of reduced CB immu- noreactivity might be related with various neuronal damage/death overtime and corresponding areas after ischemic insults.

Background:Patients with burns present with different clinical features depending on the types of burn injury and burn patients with lower levels of vitamin D have worse prognoses and more *** study aims to investigate the association between vitamin D levels and burn factors according to each burn type in relation to early intensive rehabilitation therapy initiated for inpatients with ***:In this retrospective study,we enrolled 757 of 1716 inpatients who underwent rehabilitative therapy between May 2013 and April *** types were divided into flame burn,electrical burn and other burns,including scalding,contact and chemical ***,burned body surface area(BSA),wound healing time(WHT),length of hospital stay(LOS)and body mass index were analysed between vitamin D deficient and non-deficient patient groups using Student’s ttests,or Mann-Whitney U test and among three burn types using one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)or Kruskal-Wallis one-way *** relationship between vitamin D levels and burn factors was evaluated using Pearson’s or Spearman’s correlation coefficient tests,and multiple linear regression analysis in different burn ***:In total,88.9%patients were vitamin D deficient,and these patients had a larger burned BSA(p=0.015)and longer WHT and LOS(all p<0.001)than non-deficient *** BSA,WHT and vitamin D levels showed significant differences in their mean values according to three burn types(all p<0.001).WHT was a communal factor significantly associated with vitamin D levels in all three burn types(p<0.05).The WHT cut-off points to predict vitamin D deficiency were 55 days for flame burn(p<0.001)and 62.5 days for electrical burn(p=0.001).Conclusions:WHTacross all three burn typeswas a common factor associated with vitamin D levels for inpatients with burns who had undergone rehabilitative *** burn patients with vitamin D deficiency,even those with a low burned BSA percentage,showed prol

We report our experience with a synchronous case of gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST) and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct(IPNB) in anelderly woman with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1). A 72-year-old woman presented with a 2-mo history of right upper abdominal pain unrelated to diet and indigestion. Fourteen years earlier, she had been diagnosed with NF-1, which manifested as café au lait spots and multiple nodules on the skin. Computed tomography(CT) revealed a multilocular low-density mass with septation, and mural nodules in the right hepatic lobe, as well as a 1.7-cm-sized well-demarcated enhancing mass in the third portion of the duodenum. The patient subsequently underwent right hepatectomy and duodenal wedge resection. We present here the first report of a case involving a synchronous IPNB and GIST in a patient with NF-1. Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. It is known to be associated more frequently with men than women, particularly in the premenopausal age range. The goal of this study is to evaluate gender differences among Korean patients diagnosed with SBD. This study included 309 patients who visited our Sleep Clinic due to sleep-related symptoms and were diagnosed with SDB by overnight polysomnography (PSG). We analyzed age, gender, body mass index, various PSG indices including sleep stages, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and AHI ratio in rapid eye movement (REM) versus non-REM (NREM) sleep stages (R:N ratio). Of those 309 patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, 217 (70.2%) were men (mean age 51.05 ± 12.64 years) and 92 (29.8%) were women (mean age 64.53 ± 10.43 years). The mean AHI during total sleep time was 30.34 ± 21.17 in men and 21.47 ± 17.14 in women (P P P = 0.402). REM SDB with R:N ratio higher than 2.0 was more frequently observed in women than in men, 34.8% (32/92) of women, compared with 11.9% (26/217) in men (P 60 years old. These findings suggest the possibility of different pathophysiologic mechanisms of SDB between genders and also between NREM versus REM sleep, which can be partly explained by the influence of female sex hormones.

液态与固态酵素理化成分及抗氧化活性的研究

为了对比分析液态酵素与固态酵素这2类市场上常见的酵素产品的差异,以3种液态酵素和3种固态酵素为原料,对其理化成分、生物活性物质及其体外抗氧化活性进行了分析与比较。结果显示,液态酵素产品的总酸、还原糖、可溶性固形物、总酚、总黄酮、花青素含量均显著高于固态酵素,液态酵素超氧化物歧化酶(superoxide dismutase,SOD)活力较高,但差异很大,在193.23~1214.46 U/mL,显著高于固态酵素;2类酵素的蛋白酶、脂肪酶、α-淀粉酶活力均较低,液态酵素蛋白酶、脂肪酶活力显著高于固态酵素,而液态酵素几乎没有α-淀粉酶活力。不同酵素产品具有较强的抗氧化能力且差异较大,液态酵素1,1-二苯基-2-三硝基苯肼(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl,DPPH)自由基清除能力的IC 50值在5.65~21.08μL/mL,而固态酵素最小的IC50值为29.77μL/mL,液态酵素的抗氧化能力显著强于固态酵素。该研究为帮助人们了解不同状态的酵素产品品质,正确看待酵素产品提供了参考,对于促进酵素行业健康发展具有指导意义。

为了解岩性在天然气水合物分布中的作用, 利用岩矿鉴定、扫描电镜和能谱法对ODP204航次的 4个站位 10个钻孔共计 115个沉积物样品进行分析, 发现沉积物中矿物成分基本相近, 以粘土矿物为主, 含少量以石英为主的陆源碎屑。样品中含有丰富的硅藻和有孔虫等微体化石, 可形成硅藻粘土—硅藻土、有孔虫硅藻土或凝灰质硅质生物粘土。石英碎屑大多呈棱角状, 粒径小、含量少, 同时, 样品中可见透镜体、团块或旋涡状层状结构以及杂乱堆积的斑杂构造。上述特征表明沉积物为含有大量深海或半深海的浊流沉积物或其夹层。由于钻井岩心中有相当部分的天然气水合物样品分布在上述沉积物中, 推断这些浊流沉积物很可能是ODP204航次天然气水合物的有利储层。
