BACKGROUND Lymphangiomas are rare benign tumors most commonly found in children under 2 years of age;adult cases are extremely *** lymphangiomas represent less than 1%of all *** of their benign nature and possibility of spontaneous resolution,lymphangiomas are sometimes left untreated for long periods of ***,if they grow large enough to compress surrounding structures,retroperitoneal lymphangiomas may cause symptoms such as abdominal pain,nausea or *** report a case of a rapidly growing retroperitoneal lymphangioma in an adult,treated with complete surgical *** SUMMARY A 60-year-old female who was diagnosed with an intra-abdominal cystic mass(11 cm×9.5 cm)seven years ago presented to our hospital with symptoms of early satiety,nausea,and intermittent abdominal *** tomography(CT)scan confirmed interval enlargement to a 24 cm×22 cm-sized huge left retroperitoneal mass,causing left hydronephrosis by external *** was done via long midline *** to severe adhesion between the aorta and the medial border of the mass,the cyst was intentionally opened for fluid aspiration and size *** suture closure of the opening,we proceeded carefully with *** showed light yellowish serous *** mass was excised completely,and the pathology was consistent with cystic *** post-operative period was uneventful,and the patient was discharged without ***-up CT scan one month after surgery confirmed complete removal of the mass and decreased left *** Excision of the huge retroperitoneal cystic mass resulted in relief of the patient’s symptoms,originally caused by external compression,and also ruled out the possibility of malignancy.

BACKGROUND Non-secretory multiple myeloma(MM)is a rare condition that accounts for only 3%of MM cases and is defined by normal serum and urine immunofixation and a normal serum free light chain ***-secretory MM with multiple extramedullary plasmacytomas derived from endobronchial lesions is extremely rare and can be misdiagnosed as metastasis of solid *** SUMMARY A 36-year-old man presented with progressive facial swelling and nasal congestion with *** imaging studies revealed an endobronchial mass in the left bronchus and a large left maxillary mass with multiple destructive bone metastatic *** initially presented with lung cancer and multiple ***,pathologic reports showed multiple extramedullary plasmacytomas in the left maxilla and the left *** was no change in the serum and urine monoclonal protein levels,and no abnormalities were observed in laboratory examinations,including hemoglobin,calcium,and creatinine *** bone marrow was hypercellular,with 13.49%plasma *** patient was diagnosed with non-secretory MM expressed as multiple extramedullary plasmacytomas with endobronchial lesions in a rare *** therapy for symptomatic lesions with high-dose dexamethasone was started,and the size of the left maxillary sinus lesion dramatically *** the future,chemotherapy will be administered to control lesions in other *** We present a rare case of non-secretory MM with multiple extramedullary plasmacytoma with an endobronchial lesion.

Elucidating the evolution of long-period stacking ordered phase and its effect on deformation behavior in the as-cast Mg-6Gd-1Zn-0.6Zr alloy

Herein,the evolution of long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)phases in the as-cast Mg-6Gd-1Zn-0.6Zr(wt.%)alloy are investigated via transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and atom probe tomography(APT).The TEM results reveal that two types of LPSO phase(a bulky interdendritic phase and a plate-like matrix LPSO phase)are formed in the as-cast *** of the LPSO phases are confirmed to be of the 14H type,with a smaller proportion being of the 18R ***,the APT results reveal that the composition of the interdendritic LPSO phase is closer to that of the ideal 14H phase compared to the matrix LPSO phase,and both the interdendritic and matrix LPSO phases exhibit a Gd/Zn ratio of 2.5,thereby indicating a deficient Zn content compared to the ideal 14H phase(i.e.,1.3).In addition,the influence of the LPSO phases on the deformation behavior is investigated at different compressive plastic strains using electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)analysis to reveal twinning and slip behavior during *** results indicate that the LPSO phase induces additional work hardening in the late stage of deformation via the suppression of{1011}compressive twinning and the activation of non-basal slip systems.

Comparison of laser iridotomy using short duration532-nm Nd: YAG laser (PASCAL) vs conventional laser in dark irides

AIM: To evaluate the outcome of laser iridotomy using532-nm Nd: YAG laser(PASCAL) with short pulse duration and Nd: YAG laser compared to conventional combined laser ***: Retrospective, nonrandomized, comparative case series. Forty-five eyes of 34 patients underwent laser iridotomy. Twenty-two eyes underwent iridotomy using short duration PASCAL and Nd: YAG laser, and 23 eyes underwent iridotomy using conventional combined laser method. The average settings of PASCAL were60 μm and 700-900 m W with a short duration of 0.01 s to reduce the total applied energy. The conventional laser was 50 μm and 700-900 m W for 0.1s. After photocoagulation with these laser, the Nd: YAG laser was added in each group. Endothelial cell counts of preiridotomy and 2mo after iridotomy were measured and ***: All eyes completed iridotomy *** total energy used in the PASCAL group was 1.85 ±1.17 J. Compared to conventional laser 13.25 ±1.67 J, the energy used was very small due to the short exposure time of PASCAL. Endothelial cell counts were reduced by0.88% in the PASCAL group and 6.72% in the conventional laser group(P =0.044). The change in corneal endothelial cell counts before and after iridotomy was significant in conventional combined laser iridotomy group(P =0.004).CONCLUSION: Combined PASCAL and Nd:YAG laseriridotomy is an effective and safe technique in the dark brown irides of Asians. Furthermore, the short duration of exposure in PASCAL offers the advantages of reducing the total energy used and minimizing the corneal damage.

Cumulative incidence and risk factors for pouch adenomas associated with familial adenomatous polyposis following restorative proctocolectomy

BACKGROUND The emergence of restorative total proctocolectomy has significantly reduced the lifetime colorectal cancer risk associated with familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP).However,adenomas may develop in the ileal pouch over time and may even progress to *** evaluated the cumulative incidence,time to development,and risk factors associated with ileal pouch *** To evaluate the cumulative incidence,time to development,and risk factors associated with pouch *** In this retrospective,observational study conducted at a tertiary center,95 patients with FAP who underwent restorative proctocolectomy at our center between 1989 and 2018 were consecutively *** mean follow-up period was 88 *** Pouch adenomas were found in 24(25.3%)patients,with a median time of 52 mo to their first *** adenomas were detected in most patients(95.9%).There were no high-grade dysplasia or *** the 24 patients with pouch adenomas,13 had all detected adenomas *** the 13 patients who underwent complete adenoma removal,four(38.5%)developed *** 11(45.8%)patients with numerous polyps within the pouch,seven(63.6%)exhibited progression of pouch *** cumulative risks of pouch adenoma development at 5,10,and 15 years after pouch surgery were 15.2%,29.6%,and 44.1%,*** colorectal polyposis(with more than 1000 polyps)was a significant risk factor for pouch adenoma development(hazard ratio,2.49;95% confidence interval:1.04-5.96;P=0.041).CONCLUSION Pouch adenomas occur at a fairly high rate in association with FAP after restorative proctocolectomy,and a high colorectal polyp count is associated with pouch adenoma development.

Tamsulosin-induced life-threatening hypotension in a patient with spinal cord injury:A case report

BACKGROUND Tamsulosin,a selectiveα1-adrenergic receptor antagonist,is commonly used for treating neurogenic bladder in patients with spinal cord injury(SCI).No severe adverse events have been described with such tamsulosin *** our knowledge,we report the first case of severe life-threatening hypotension as an adverse effect of tamsulosin in a person with ***,we report this case to inform that this severe adverse effect of tamsulosin can occur when treating patients with *** SUMMARY A 59-year-old woman was diagnosed with cervical spinal cord myelopathy and was classified as American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale D,neurological level of injury *** she suffered from voiding difficulty due to neurogenic bladder,we prescribed *** vital signs remained stable,but occasional hypotensive symptoms followed *** reduced the dose of tamsulosin,but after administering tamsulosin for 9 d,she experienced lifethreatening hypotension with no evidence of hypovolemic shock,neurogenic shock,cardiogenic shock,or septic shock.A hypotensive condition induced by tamsulosin was the suspected cause,and her symptoms could be associated with adverse effects of *** symptoms resolved after stopping tamsulosin,and no other reason was found,we concluded that tamsulosin was the cause of her *** Caution for severe hypotension is needed when administering tamsulosin for neurogenic bladder in a patient with SCI.

Photonic crystal(PhC)phosphor,in which the phosphor material is periodically modulated for an enhancement in color-conversion efficiency via resonant absorption of excitation photons,is a paradigm-shifting structural phosphor ***-dimensional(2D)square-lattice PhC phosphor is currently considered the most advanced platform because of not only its high efficiency,but also its immunity to excitation *** the present study,two major modifications are made to further improve the performance of the 2D PhC phosphor:increasing the refractive index contrast and planarizing the *** index contrast is improved by replacing the PhC backbone material with TiO_(2)whereas the surface planarization is achieved by removing excessive colloidal quantum dots from the *** comparison with the reference phosphor,the upgraded PhC phosphor exhibits~59 times enhanced absorption(in simulations)and~7 times enhanced emission(in experiments),both of which are unprecedentedly *** results not only brighten the viability and applicability of the PhC phosphor but also spur the phosphor development through structural engineering of phosphor materials.

Advanced heterolytic H_(2) adsorption of K-added Ru/MgO catalysts for accelerating hydrogen storage into aromatic benzyltoluenes

Herein,we report a highly active K-added Ru/MgO catalyst for hydrogen storage into aromatic benzyltoluenes at low temperatures to advance liquid organic hydrogen carrier *** hydrogenation activity of Ru/K/MgO catalysts exhibits a volcano-shaped dependence on the K content at the maximum with 0.02 wt%.This is in good agreement with the strength and capacity of H_(2) adsorption derived from basicity,despite a gradual decrease in the textural property and the corresponding increase in the Ru particle size with increasing the K *** functional theory calculations show that heterolytic hydrogen adsorption properties(strength and polarization)are facilitated up to a specific density of K on the Ru–MgO interface and excessive K suppresses heterolytic H_(2) adsorption by direct interaction between K and hydrogen,assuring the hydrogenation activity and H_(2) adsorption capability of Ru/K/MgO ***,the Ru/K/MgO catalyst,when K is added in an optimal amount,is highly effective to accelerate hydrogen storage kinetics at low temperatures owing to the enhanced heterolytic H_(2) adsorption.
