A new separation algorithm based on contour segments and ellipse fitting is proposed to separate the ellipse-like touching grain kernels in digital *** image is filtered and converted into a binary image *** the contour of touching grain kernels is extracted and divided into contour segments (CS) with the concave points on *** next step is to merge the contour segments,which is the main contribution of this *** distance measurement (DM) and deviation error measurement (DEM) are proposed to test whether the contour segments pertain to the same kernel or *** they pass the measurement and judgment,they are merged as a new *** with these newly merged contour segments,the ellipses are fitted as the representative ellipses for touching *** verify the proposed algorithm,six different kinds of Korean grains were *** results showed that the proposed method is efficient and accurate for the separation of the touching grain kernels.

Artemisia capillaris Thunberg is a medicinal plant used as a traditional medicine in many cultures. It is an effective remedy for liver problems including hepatitis. Recent pharmacological reports have indicated that Artemisia species can exert various neurological effects. Previously, we reported a memory-enhancing effect of Artemisia species. However, the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effect of A. capillaris(AC) are still unknown. In the present study, we investigated the effect of an ethanol extract of AC on ischemic brain injury in a mouse model of transient forebrain ischemia. The mice were treated with AC for seven days, beginning one day before induction of transient forebrain ischemia. Behavioral deficits were investigated using the Y-maze. Nissl and Fluoro-jade B staining were used to indicate the site of injury. To determine the underlying mechanisms for the drug, we measured acetylcholinesterase activity. AC(200 mg·kg-1) treatment reduced transient forebrain ischemia-induced neuronal cell death in the hippocampal CA1 region. The AC-treated group also showed significant amelioration in the spontaneous alternation of the Y-maze test performance, compared to that in the untreated transient forebrain ischemia group. Moreover, AC treatment showed a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase activity in vitro. Finally, the effect of AC on forebrain ischemia was blocked by mecamylamine, a nonselective nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. Our results suggested that in a model of forebrain ischemia, AC protected against neuronal death through the activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

Flexible electronics offer a multitude of advantages, such as flexibility, lightweight property, portability, and high durability. These unique properties allow for seamless applications to curved and soft surfaces, leading to extensive utilization across a wide range of fields in consumer electronics. These applications, for example, span integrated circuits, solar cells, batteries, wearable devices, bio-implants, soft robotics, and biomimetic applications. Recently, flexible electronic devices have been developed using a variety of materials such as organic, carbon-based, and inorganic semiconducting materials. Silicon (Si) owing to its mature fabrication process, excellent electrical, optical, thermal properties, and cost efficiency, remains a compelling material choice for flexible electronics. Consequently, the research on ultra-thin Si in the context of flexible electronics is studied rigorously nowadays. The thinning of Si is crucially important for flexible electronics as it reduces its bending stiffness and the resultant bending strain, thereby enhancing flexibility while preserving its exceptional properties. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent efforts in the fabrication techniques for forming ultra-thin Si using top-down and bottom-up approaches and explores their utilization in flexible electronics and their applications. Flexible silicon manufacturing techniques are categorized into two main approaches: top-down and bottom-up depending on the process sequence. The top-down approach is a method of producing the bulk silicon wafer by scaling down it into nano/micro-sized structures. The bottom-up approach is a method of creating an intricate structure through precise control of small-scale atoms and molecules. Flexible silicon maintains the advantages of the bulk silicon such as electrical properties, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

This study investigates the effect of characteristics and distribution of Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates on the uniaxial tensile and three-point bending properties of extruded Mg alloys containing high Al *** extruded Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ91)alloy contains lamellar-structured Mg_(17)Al_(12)discontinuous precipitates along the grain boundaries,which are formed via static precipitation during natural air *** extruded Mg–11Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ111)alloy contains spherical Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates at the grain boundaries and inside the grains,which are formed via dynamic precipitation during *** to inhomogeneous distribution of precipitates,the AZ111 alloy consists of two different precipitate regions:precipitate-rich region with numerous precipitates and finer grains and precipitate-scarce region with a few precipitates and coarser *** AZ111 alloy exhibits a higher tensile strength than the AZ91 alloy because its smaller grain size and more abundant precipitates result in stronger grain-boundary hardening and precipitation hardening effects,***,the tensile elongation of the AZ111 alloy is lower than that of the AZ91 alloy because the weak cohesion between the dynamic precipitates and the matrix facilitates the crack initiation and *** bending,a macrocrack initiates on the outer surface of bending specimen in both *** AZ111 alloy exhibits higher bending yield strength and lower failure bending strain than the AZ91 *** bending specimens of the AZ91 alloy have similar bending formability,whereas those of the AZ111 alloy exhibit considerable differences in bending formability and crack propagation behavior,depending on the distribution and number density of precipitates in the *** bending specimens of the AZ111 alloy,it is found that the failure bending strain(ε_(f,bending))is inversely proportional to the area fraction of precipitates in the outer zone of bending specimen(A_(ppt)),with a relation
