BACKGROUND Breast cancer in young women has been shown to have an aggressive behavior and poor *** To evaluate the outcomes of young hormone receptor(HR)-positive patients with breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC),and the oncologic efficacy of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH)*** This retrospective study involved a prospectively enrolled *** included patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer who were treated with NAC followed by curative surgery at the Samsung Medical Center and Samsung Changwon Hospital between January 2006 and December *** patients with HR-positive and human epidermal grow factor 2(HER2)-negative breast cancer,we analyzed the characteristics and oncology outcomes between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** Among 431 patients with NAC and HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer,78 were 35 years old or younger,and 353 patients were older than 35 *** median follow-up was 71.0 *** was no statistically significant difference in disease free survival(DFS,P=0.565)and overall survival(P=0.820)between the patients equal to or younger than 35 years and the patients older than 35 *** two groups differed in that the GnRH agonist was used more frequently in the group of patients equal to or younger than 35 years than in the other group(52.4%vs 11.2%,Pyounger than 35 years,patients treated with the GnRH agonist had better DFS(P=0.037).CONCLUSION Administration of GnRH agonists might improve the DFS rate of HR-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer in the equal to or younger than 35 years group of patients with NAC.

Development of Value-Added Chocolate with Oat and Evaluation of Its Physiological Properties

Human Rhinoviruses in Korean with Acute Low Respiratory Tract Infections

Human rhinovirus (HRV) must be viewed as a significant etiological agent of acute low respiratory tract infections (ALRIs) in infants and young children. The present study has been carried out to investigate the prevalence of recently identified respiratory viruses and determine the phylogenetic composition of HRV strains. In total, 923 nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPAs) collected from hospitalized patients with ALRIs between January and December 2010 (453 females and 470 males) at five referral hospitals in Seoul were tested for respiratory viruses. Viruses were detected by RT-PCR (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) in 501 (54.3%) of the 923 positive samples obtained. Overall, HRV was detected in 7.9%, ADV in 10.2%, IFV in 21.9%, RSV in 3.6%, hMPV in 2.7%, HCoV in 2.5%, HEV in 1.6%, HBoV in 1.6%, and PIV in 2.4% of the samples. HRV infections occurred throughout the year, with peaks in January, May, July, and November of 2010. Phylogenetic analyses using the VP4/VP2 cording region showed that among the 27 isolates with HRV, 14 (52%) were infected with species A, 2 (7%) were infected with species B, and 11 (41%) were infected with the strains from HRV-C. HRV-C sequences are genetically distinct, sharing only 32% to 33% of their amino acids with HRV-A and HRV-B, while retaining 46% to 100% identity with each other. HRV-A, B, and C were co-circulating in children hospitalized with ALRIs in Korea in 2010. These findings indicated that HRV-C was the important causative agent of HRV associated with ALRIs.

Influence of roads on small rodents population in fragmented forest areas, South Korea

The road effect on small rodent population is investigated at 8 fragmented forest areas in the Baekdudaegan mountain range, South Korea in September 2001. We especially focused on the distribution and body condition of small rodents near the roads. Korean field mouse (Apodemus peninsulae) seems to be more sensitive to the existence of a road than striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius). Korean field mouse prefers interior forest area to around road. Striped field mouse is a habitat generalist and has wide distributional range around road, but Korean field mouse is forest-inhabiting species and their distribution is limited in forest area. These results suggest the effect of road is different on each small rodent species and their habitat preferences.

利用粳稻品种间杂交组合"龙锦1号/香软米1578"的196份F3家系,对糙米中Fe、Se、Zn、Cu、Mn、Ca、Mg、K、Na和P等10种矿质元素含量的变异及其相关性进行了分析。10种矿质元素在F3家系间均有较大的变异,其中Na含量变异最大,Zn含量变异最小,变异系数分别为77.69%和12.04%。各矿质元素含量的变异系数大小顺序为Na>Se>Cu>Fe>Mg>Mn>Ca>P>K>Zn。不同矿质元素含量也有较大的差异,F3家系群各矿质元素含量平均值高低排序为P>K>Mg>Ca>Fe>Mn>Zn>Na>Cu>Se。糙米中10种矿质元素含量在F3家系群中均表现为正态分布,为由多基因控制的数量性状。Zn与Fe、Cu,Mn与Mg、Ca、K、P,Ca与Mg、K、Na、P,Mg与K、P,P与K、Na含量呈显著或极显著正相关,而Fe与Se、Mn与Na、Mg与Na含量呈显著或极显著负相关。Mn、Ca、Mg、K、P含量与其他矿质元素含量间的相关关系较Fe、Se、Cu、Zn含量与其他矿质元素含量间的相关关系更为密切。
