A one-step method was developed to create a highly biocompatible micropatterned surface on a diamond-like carbon(DLC)through irradiation with a nitrogen ion beam and thus enhance the biocompatibility of osseointegrated surfaces and biotribological performance of articular *** biocompatibility and biotribological mechanisms were analyzed in terms of the structure and morphology of *** was demonstrated that a layer enriched in sp^(3) C-N bonds was formed on the surface of the DLC after nitrogen ion beam ***,with an increase in the radiation dose,the content of sp^(3) C-N on the DLC surface increased significantly,and the biocompatibility was positively correlated with *** adhesion of the MC3T3 osteoblasts increased significantly from 32%to 86%under an irradiation dose of 8×10^(15) ions/cm^(2).In contrast,the micropattern had a significant negative effect on the adhesion of the osteoblasts as it physically hindered cell expansion and *** micropattern with a depth of 37 nm exhibited good friction properties,and the coefficient of friction was reduced by 21%at relatively high speeds.

In this study,the tribological characteristics of TiN,AlTiN,and AlTiCrN coatings sliding against a SUS420J1 stainless steel pin were investigated in atmospheric and vacuum *** coatings were deposited on SUS440C substrates using the arc-physical vapor deposition *** friction and wear behavior of the coatings were evaluated based on the systematic analyses of the friction coefficient data as well as the physical and chemical state of the wear *** results revealed that the friction coefficients of the SUS440C specimen and AlTiCrN coatings increased,whereas those of the TiN and AlTiN coatings decreased when the environment was changed from atmospheric to *** was confirmed that the formation of an oxide layer and adsorption of oxides on the surface were dominant factors that influenced the tribological behavior in the atmospheric *** the other hand,the compatibility,oxidation inhibition,and droplets of the surface mainly affected the frictional characteristics in the vacuum *** results of this work are expected to aid in the selection of proper coating materials for tribological systems operating in a vacuum.

Collective cell migration plays a critical role in physiological and pathological processes such as development,wound healing,and *** studies have demonstrated how various types of chemical,mechanical,and electrical cues dictate the collective migratory behaviors of *** an acoustic cue can be advantageous because of its noninvasiveness and biocompatibility,cell migration in response to acoustic stimulation remains poorly *** this study,we developed a device that is able to apply surface acoustic waves to a cell culture substrate and investigated the effect of propagating acoustic waves on collective cell *** migration distance estimated at various wave intensities revealed that unidirectional cell migration was enhanced at a critical wave intensity and that it was suppressed as the intensity was further *** increased migration might be attributable to cell orientation alignment along the direction of the propagating wave,as characterized by nucleus *** actin bundles indicative of a high traction force were observed in cells subjected to propagating acoustic waves at the critical *** device and technique can be useful for regulating cellular functions associated with cell migration.

Lymphangioma usually occurs in children and usually involves the skin. Mesenteric lymphangioma is extremely rare in adults. Typically, lymphangioma appears on computed tomography (CT) as a lower attenuation of a cystic mass, however, some cases appear to be a solid mass. We describe the CT and 18F-FDG positron emission tomography/CT appearance in a case of jejunal and mesenteric cavernous lymphangi-omatosis mimicking metastasis in an adult patient with rectal cancer.

BACKGROUND：Prothymosinα（PTMA）is a nuclear oncoprotein-transcription factor essential for cell cycle progression and *** was overexpressed in several human malignancies including hepatocellular carcinoma（HCC）.However,the prognostic significance of PTMA protein expression in HCC remains *** the present study,we evaluated PTMA protein expression by immunohistochemistry in order to elucidate the prognostic roles of PTMA in HCC ***： By immunohistochemistry, we investigated the expression of PTMA protein in tumor tissue from 226 HCC patients who underwent curative hepatectomy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate its predic- tive value for tumor recurrence and survival of patients. The median follow-up period was 120 months. RESULTS： PTMA expression was observed in 162 （71.7%） of the 226 HCC patients and was significantly associated with higher Edmondson grade, microvascular invasion, intrahe- patic metastasis, higher American Joint Committee on Cancer （AJCC） T-stage, and lower albumin level. PTMA expression was an independent predictor of early recurrence （P=0.001）. PTMA expression showed an unfavorable influence on recurrence- free survival （RFS）（P〈0.001）. Subgroup analysis showed that among patients with tumor size _〈5.0 cm （140 patients）, patients at AJCC T-stage I （95 patients） and patients with a-fetoprotein ≤20 ng/mL （83 patients）, the differences in RFS between PTMA- positive and PTMA-negative groups were also statistically sig- nificant （P=0.017, P=0.002 and P=0.002, respectively）. In addi- tion, PTMA expression was an independent predictor of shorter RFS （P=0.011）. PTMA expression showed an unfavorable influ- ence on overall survival （P=0.014）, but was not an independent predictor of shorter overall survival （P=0.161）. CONCLUSIONS： PTMA protein expression might be a novel predictor of early recurrence and RFS in HCC patients, even those at early stage or with a-fetoprotein-negative after curative hep

Objective： To investigate the antiproliferative effects of zinc-citrate compound on hormone refractory prostate cancer （HRPC）. Methods： HRPC cell line （DU145） and normal prostate cell line （RWPE-1） were treated with zinc, citrate and zinc-citrate compound at different time intervals and concentrations to investigate the effect of zinc-citrate compound. Mitochondrial （m）-aconitase activity was determined using aconitase assay. DNA laddering analysis was performed to investigate apoptosis of DU145 cells. Molecular mechanism of apoptosis was investigated by Western blot analysis of P53, P21w^fl, Bcl-2, Bcl-xL and Bax, and also caspase-3 activity analysis. Results： Treatment with zinc-citrate compound resulted in a time- and dose-dependent decrease in cell number of DU145 cells in comparison with RWPE-1. M-aconitase activity was significantly decreased. DNA laddering analysis indicated apoptosis of DU145 cells. Zinc-citrate compound increased the expression of P21wall and P53, and reduced the expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL proteins but induced the expression of Bax protein. Zinc-citrate compound induced apoptosis of DU145 cells by activation of the caspase-3 pathway. Conclusion： Zinc-citrate compound can induce apoptotic cell death in DU145, by caspase-3 activation through up-regulation of apoptotic proteins and down-regulation of antiapoptotic proteins.

We report a case of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(IPMN) originating from the ileal heterotopic pancreas in a patient with hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC). A 49-year-old woman had a past history of total colectomy and total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy due to colonic adenocarcinoma and endometrial adenocarcinoma 11 years ago. Her parents died from colonic adenocarcinoma and her sister died from colonic adenocarcinoma and endometrial adenocarcinoma. The clinician found an ileal mass with necrotic change and the mass increased in size from 1.7 cm to 2.2 cm during the past 2 years on computed tomography. It was surgically resected. Microscopically, the ileal mass showed heterotopic pancreas with IPMN high grade dysplasia. Immunohistochemical staining revealed positive reactivity for MLH1/PMS2 and negative reactivity for MSH2/MSH6. This is the first report of IPMN originating from the ileal heterotopic pancreas in a patient with HNPCC in the English literature.

Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative activity of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge.(SM)on the castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC)cell line DU-145 in vitro and in ***:Prostate cancer cell line(DU-145)and normal prostate cell line(RWPE-1)were treated with SM at different concentrations(3.125,12.5,25 and 50μg/mL)to investigate the antiproliferative *** laddering analysis was performed to investigate the apoptosis of DU-145 *** mechanism was investigated by Western blot analysis of p53,Bcl-2,prostate specific antigen(PSA),and androgen receptor(AR).Six-week-old male BALB/c nude mice were randomly divided into normal control group(n=101)and treated group(n=101)which administered 500 mg/kg SM for 2 *** volumes were ***:Treatment with SM resulted in a dose-dependent decrease in cell number of DU-145 cells in comparison with *** laddering analysis indicated the apoptosis of DU-145 *** with SM increased the expression of p53 and reduced the expression of Bcl-2 *** levels of PSA were considerably reduced in SM-treated group compared to the controls,and a decrease in AR expression was observed when cells were treated with SM in the same pattern as a reduction in *** the tumour xenograft study,SM given once a day for 2 weeks significantly inhibited tumour ***:SM might contribute to the anticancer actions such as induction of apoptosis and inhibition of proliferation of prostate cancer cells.

A flexible copper clad laminate(FCCL) was fabricated using electroless-and electro-Cu plating processes and the effects of pre-treatment time on the adhesion strength of the FCCL were evaluated based on interfacial *** neutralization and catalyst time were varied in the range of 0-20 min and 0.1-10 min,respectively,and the interfacial condition of the FCCL was characterized by atomic force microscopy(AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).It is observed that the peel strength increases significantly as the neutralization and catalyst time *** strength as high as 7.2-7.3 N/cm is obtained as the neutralization and catalyst time increase up to 20 min and 10 min,respectively,which is comparable to the strength achieved by the conventional laminating and sputtering *** improvements are probably due to an increase in the surface roughness of polyimide(PI),the activated surface condition,and the adsorption of palladium ions/atoms(Pd) on the PI surface which act as nucleation sites for Cu.
