This paper describes a multiple camera-based method to reconstruct the 3D shape of a human foot. From a foot database, an initial 3D model of the foot represented by a cloud of points is built. The shape parameters, which can characterize more than 92% of a foot, are defined by using the principal component analysis method. Then, using ＂active shape models＂, the initial 3D model is adapted to the real foot captured in multiple images by applying some constraints （edge points＇ distance and color variance）. We insist here on the experiment part where we demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method on a plastic foot model, and also on real human feet with various shapes. We propose and compare different ways of texturing the foot which is needed for reconstruction. We present an experiment performed on the plastic foot model and on human feet and propose two different ways to improve the final 3D shapers accuracy according to the previous experiments＇ results. The first improvement proposed is the densification of the cloud of points used to represent the initial model and the foot database. The second improvement concerns the projected patterns used to texture the foot. We conclude by showing the obtained results for a human foot with the average computed shape error being only 1.06 mm.

The fatigue properties of nickel-base Alloy 718 with fine- and grain-coarse grains were investigated. In the fine-grain alloy, the fatigue strength normalized by the tensile strength was 0.51 at 107 cycles. In contrast, the fatigue strength of the coarse-grain alloy was 0.32 at the same cycles, although the fatigue strengths in the range from 103 to 105 cycles are the same for both alloys. The fracture appearances fatigued at around 106 cycles showed internal fractures originating from the flat facets of austenite grains for both alloys. The difference in fatigue strength at 107 cycles between the fine- and coarse-grain alloys could be explained in terms of the sizes of the facets from which the fractures originated.

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy of continuous regional arterial infusion therapy （CRAI） with gabexate mesilate and antibiotics for severe acute pancreatitis （SAP）. METHODS： We conducted a prospective study on patients who developed SAP with or without CRAI. Out of 18 patients fulfilled clinical diagnostic criteria for SAP in Japan, 9 patients underwent CRAI, while 9 patients underwent conventional systemic protease inhibitor and antibiotics therapy （non-CRAI）. CRAI was initiated within 72 h of the onset of pancreatitis. Gabexate mesilate （2400 mg/d） was continuously administered for 3 to 5 d. The clinical outcome including serum inflammation-related parameters were examined. RESULTS- The duration of abdominal pain in the CRAI group was 1.9 =1：0.26 d, whereas that in the non-CRAI group was 4.3 ±0.50. The duration of SIRS in the CRAI group was 2.2 ± 0.22 d, whereas that in the non- CRAI group was 3.2 ± 0.28. Abdominal pain and SIRS disappeared significantly in a short period of time after the initiation of CRAI using gabexate mesilate. The average length of hospitalization significantly differed between the CRAI and non-CRAI groups, 53.3 ± 7.9 d and 87.4± 13.9 d, respectively. During the first two weeks, levels of serum CRP and the IL6/IL10 ratio in the CRAI group tended to have a rapid decrease compared to those in the non-CRAI group. CONCLUSION： The present results suggest that CRAI using gabexate mesilate was effective against SAP.

Magnetic properties and temperature dependence of electrical transportproperties of rare-earth-metal Dy-doped GaN thin film are experimentally studied with asuperconducting quantum interference device magnetometer and van der Pauw method. It was found thatthis thin nitride film has both semiconductor properties and ferromagnetism from 10 K to roomtemperature. The dopant-band (conducting band due to doping) electron conduction dominates thetransport properties of this film at low temperatures. These results indicate that Dy-doped GaN isan n-type ferromagnetic semiconductor at room temperature.

Background and Purpose: kimura’s Disease (KD) is a rare benign chronic eosinophlic inflammatory disorder, characterized by angiolymphoid proliferation with peripheral eosinophilia and elevated serum immunoglobulin E. Most lesions occur in the head and neck regions. To the best of our knowledge, the relationship between subcutaneous cheek lesion of KD and the surrounding structures including superficial musculoaponeurotic systems (SMAS) has never been reported. The purpose of this study was to describe MR imaging findings of cheek subcutaneous lesion of KD and adjacent SMAS. Materials and Methods: Seven cheek subcutaneous lesions of 5 patients histopathologically proved KD were evaluated. We retrospectively evaluated the MR imaging findings of subcutaneous lesions for signal intensity in each imaging sequence, the border of the lesions, and appearance of SMAS. Results: All cheek lesions were displacing normal fat tissue. These lesions showed ill-defined border (7/7), slightly high signal intensity on T1-weighted images (7/7), and intermediate (1/7) or high signal intensity (6/7) on T2-weighted images. Cheek lesions were enhanced by intravenous injection of gadolinium to signal intensity close to that of fat tissue (3/4), and in one case, the avid enhancement of the mass was seen (1/4). All lesions attached to the outer surface of SMAS, however, only one out of 7 lesions distributed below the SMAS without tearing of the layers. SMAS below the lesion showed high signal intensity on T2-weighted images in two lesions (2/7). Conclusion: KD should be included in the differential diagnosis when a cheek mass presents with non-specific signal intensities and irregular border, which attaches to but does not interrupt SMAS on MR imaging.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is a major chronic liver disease that can lead to liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and ultimately death. NAFLD is pathologically classified as non-alcoholic fatty liver(NAFL) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) based on the existence of ballooned hepatocytes,although the states have been known to transform into each other. Moreover,since the detection of ballooned hepatocytes may be difficult with limited biopsied specimens, its clinical significance needs reconsideration. Repeated liver biopsy to assess histological NAFLD activity for therapeutic response is also impractical, creating the need for body fluid biomarkers and less invasive imaging modalities. Recent longitudinal observational studies have emphasized the importance of advanced fibrosis as a determinant of NAFLD outcome. Thus,identifying predictors of fibrosis progression and developing better screening methods will enable clinicians to isolate high-risk NAFLD patients requiring early intensive intervention. Despite the considerable heterogeneity of NAFLD with regard to underlying disease, patient age, and fibrosis stage, several clinical trials are underway to develop a first-in-class drug. In this review, we summarize the present status and future direction of NAFLD/NASH research towards solving unmet medical needs.

Infants with congenital deafness caused by severe bilateral inner ear malformations frequently suffer from severe hearing loss and poor balance. Unfortunately, the use of hearing aids is usually ineffective in recovering hearing, necessitating cochlear implants. We report a case of a 6-year-old boy with congenital deafness and bilateral inner ear malformations(right side, incomplete partition type I [IP-I]; left side, common cavity deformity). Hearing aids had a remarkable effect in this patient, enabling sufficient and favorable hearing recovery such as to allow the patient to engage in daily conversations. Per-rotatory nystagmus was recorded on an electronystagmogram for both right and left rotations in a damped rotational chair test. It is rare for deaf children with severe bilateral inner ear malformation to demonstrate favorable development in hearing and good equilibrium function. Our findings suggest that auditoryevestibular hair cells in this patient may have been partially preserved despite IP-I in the right ear and common cavity deformity of the left ear.

Specimens of an oxide dispersion strengthened（ODS） ferritic steel（15 Cr-4 Al-0.6 Zr-0.1 Ti） are implanted with multiple-energy He ions at room temperature to create a damage plateau of 0.4 dpa for the average（corresponding to an He concentration of about 7000 appm） from the near surface to a depth about 1 um. The specimen is subsequently thermally annealed at 800°C for 1 h in a vacuum so that simple defects can be formed in the as-implanted state that has undergone significant recombination, meanwhile helium bubbles at nano-scale are formed. Hardness of the specimens are tested with the nano-indentation technique. A hardening by 25% is observed. Microstructures of the specimen after irradiation/annealing are investigated with transmission electron microscopy. Helium bubbles are generally located at dislocations and grain boundaries. Using the dispersed barrier strength model, the strength factor of helium bubbles in the ODS ferritic steel is estimated to be between0.1 and 0.26, which is close to that of helium bubbles in austenitic steels.
