Dear Editor,DECREASE IN DNA METHYLATION1 （DDM1） is a chromatin remodeling protein required for maintenance of cytosine and histone H3K9 methylation in heterochromatin regions in the genome of Arabidopsis thaliana （Gendrel et al., 2002）. A ddm 1 mutant also increases the rate of meiotic recombination in euchromatic but not heterochromatic regions of A. thaliana （Melamed-Bessudo and Levy, 2012）, and changes the state of cytosine methylation of a gene flanked by a LINE element located in a region of euchromatin （Saze and Kakutani, 2007）. These studies indicate that the function of DDM1 is not limited to heterochromatin regions and show that it also acts on euchromatic regions in the genome, although the mechanism determining its target specificity remains obscure. Toward understanding the function of DDM1 in the maintenance of global epigenetic state of the genome in higher plants, we performed a genome-wide analysis of cytosine methylation in an antisense-mediated DDMl-knockdown rice line （asDDM1） that exhibits similar characteristics to that of ddml in A. thaliana （Higo et al., 2012; Habu et al., 2015）. Some intrinsic properties of rice genome differ greatly from those of A. thaliana, for example, the content of repeated sequences and their distribution, and therefore rice provides an opportunity to examine the effect of DDM1 deficiency on genomes with a higher content and broader distribution of repeats.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) has become widely accepted as a standard method of treatment for superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms because it enables en block resection even for large lesions or fibrotic lesions with minimal invasiveness, and decreases the local recurrence rate. Moreover, specimens resected in an en block fashion enable accurate histological assessment. Taking these factors into consideration, ESD seems to be more advantageous than conventional endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR), but the associated risks of perioperative adverse events are higher than in EMR. Bleeding after ESD is the most frequent among these adverse events. Although post-ESD bleeding can be controlled by endoscopic hemostasis in most cases, it may lead to serious conditions including hemorrhagic shock. Even with preventive methods including administration of acid secretion inhibitors and preventive hemostasis, post-ESD bleeding cannot be completely prevented. In addition high-risk cases for post-ESD bleeding, which include cases with the use of antithrombotic agents or which require large resection, are increasing. Although there have been many reports about associated risk factors and methods of preventing post-ESD bleeding, many issues remain unsolved. Therefore, in this review, we have overviewed risk factors and methods of preventing post-ESD bleeding from previous studies. Endoscopists should have sufficient knowledge of these risk factors and preventive methods when performing ESD.

Fossil rice phytoliths have been *** from a lateglacial to Holocene sequence of epicontinental sediments in the East China Sea that were probably transported by the Yangtze River from its middle and/or lower *** rice phytoliths *** in the sequence at about 13 900 *** BP and disappeared during the period of 13 000-10 000 *** BP,implying the earliest domesticated cereal crops of the world ever *** on the records of phytoliths,pollen, diatoms and foraminifera from the sequence,the climate between 13000 and 10 000 *** BP was notably colder(Younger Dryas).The coincidence of disappearance of domesticated rice phytoliths with cold climate conditions may suggest a great climatic influence on human activities during that *** and wetter conditions during the period 13900 to 13000 *** BP and after 10 000 cal. yr BP have probably favoured rice domestication in the area.

Growth rate has a direct impact on the productivity of nitride LED production. Atmospheric pressure growth of GaN with a growth rate as high as 10/zm/h and also *** growth of 1μm/h by using 4 inch by 11 production scale MOVPE are described. XRD of （002） and （102） direction was 200 arcsec and 250 arcsec, respectively. Impact of the growth rate on productivity is discussed.

One of the major challenges in the field of motors is to improve rotation ripples. There are several causes of rotation ripples. This paper focuses on variations of manufacturing of a stator coil and proposes a new technique called DTMM （dynamic multi-coils-motor three-phase matching） based on the conventional NSDEM （noise shaping dynamic element matching）. With DTMM, all the moving elements are shuffled while a single moving element is shuffled with NSDEM. Results show that the proposed system reduces the rotation ripple by 30% compared to the conventional PWM driving technology.

Apparent motion stimulus induces visual perception of smooth motion even though there is no speed information. We examined whether human brain response as measured by magnetoencephalography carries direction information in the visually presented apparent motion of a randomdot pattern in a similar manner as continuous motions that have speed and direction information. Although there was no significant effect of motion direction on the peak response latency and amplitude, mutual information entropy (IE) significantly increased after the motion onset at approximately 36 ms after the response latency in 41% of the evaluations. Detailed analysis of the data from five subjects who participated in both the present apparent motion and our previous coherent motion studies revealed that the maximum IE latency (delay) for apparent motion was significantly longer than that for coherent motion, although the mean maximum IE was the same. The results indicate that direction is represented in the response waveform evoked by apparent motion but the manner is different from that for coherent motion probably due to the distinct neural processes engaged only for the apparent motion perception. We consider that direction and speed can be processed separately in the human brain because direction information was generated without speed information for the perception of apparent motion.

Design of Intersample Response in a Hard Disk Control System

The present paper discusses a design method for the head position in a Hard Disk Drive （HDD） control system. In the HDD control system, the sampling interval of the head position is constrained because of the hardware specifications, but the hold interval of the control input is not constrained. In the present study, a multirate control system is designed, in which the sampling and the hold intervals are not equal. A multirate control law, which stabilizes a closed-loop system, is extended using newly introduced parameters such that the sample response of the plant output is maintained. Furthermore, intersample ripples in the steady state are eliminated using the new design parameters, which can be selected independently of the sample response. As a result, the intersample response can be improved independently of the sample response. The proposed method is applied to a benchmark problem of an HDD system, and its effectiveness is demonstrated.

As the society matures, customer requirements have become more varied. Services have been attracting increasing attention from industry and academic field as an effective mean to satisfy such varied customer requirements. In order to make a profit, it is important for companies to build and maintain long-term relationships with customers. Therefore, service providers should maintain their service quality and always satisfy their customers. To realize highly reliable product or services, in general, it is an effective approach to prevent failures from occurring in the use phase. Therefore, it is necessary that analysts identify the factors that could cause service failure and take appropriate measures against the target failure factor in advance. However, service failure factors are varied compared to physical products because service failures occur due to uncertainty elements such as human factors. In this study, we aim to enable service analysts to identify the critical failure factor from a number of failure factors. To achieve this, we identify complex failure factors and relationships among them from the viewpoint of the field where the service provided. This paper proposes a method for structuring the causal sequence between service failure factors by using a method of system modeling.
