Protein and peptide array chips are developed using photolithography method for the identification of ligands activities . We prepared a chitosan grafted glass chip for peptide synthesis and found that the chip had an ideal surface for peptide synthesis and protein binding assay as well. The modified surfaces were characterized by contact angle measurement, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). We synthesized various spacers on the glass chip using NVOC-β-alanine and NVOC-ε-aminocaproic acid by BOP/HOBT coupling method. Glioblastoma is the deadliest neoplasm with the worst 5-year survival rate among all human *** promotes autophagic cell death or blocks the induction of apoptosis in eukaryotic ***,we investigated whether varying levels of autophagic flux in glioblastoma lead to different efficacies of curcumin treatment using U87 MG and A172 human glioblastoma *** number of LC3 puncta,the number of cells with LC3 puncta and the level of LC3 Ⅱ,Atg5 and Atg7 protein were higher in U87 MG cells compared with A172 *** the cells were incubated with curcumin for 24 or 48 h,the percentage of cell death was higher in A172 cells compared with U87 MG *** the level of LC3 was lower,that of curcumin-induced LC3 was higher,in A172 cells than in U87 MG *** relative increases in cell death and LC3-mediated autophagy were greater under serum starvation in A172 cells compared with U87 MG ***-induced A172 cell death was reduced by serum *** both types of cells were transfected with LC3-GFP,the percentage of cell death was higher in A172 cells than that in U87 MG *** together,the data demonstrate that curcumin-mediated tumor cell death is regulated by the basal level of autophagic flux in different glioblastoma *** suggests that prior to the use of various curcumin therapeutics,the level of basal or induced autophagic flux should be carefully examined in tumor cells for the best efficacy.

Studies from the Far East have demonstrated that D2-dissection is superior to D0/1-dissection. The effect of postoperative chemoradiotherapy(CRT) after D2-dissection has not been accepted due to the lack of D2-dissection in Western countries, as well as the potential harmful effect of radiotherapy. In the current NCCN guideline, adjuvant chemotherapy alone is recommended in D2-dissected patients. However, three recent prospective randomized controlled trials in South Korea and China(ARTIST, NCC and Multicenter IMRT Trials) demonstrated that adjuvant CRT can be safely administered to D2-dissected patients with notable benefits. To identify the role of radiotherapy(RT) in the D2-dissected postoperative setting, clinical research attempts should include(1) identification of high-risk patients for loco-regional recurrence who might benefit from CRT;(2) modification of RT target volume based on the findings that failure patterns should be different after D1- and D2-dissection; and(3) integration of new RT techniques to decrease treatment-related toxicity. The present paper is a review of recent studies addressing these fields. Well-designed prospective randomized studies are needed to clearly define the role of adjuvant CRT in D2-dissected gastric cancer, however, future clinical studies should also focus on answering these questions.

AIM: To determine the clinicopathologic characteristics of surgically treated ulcerative colitis(UC) patients, and to compare the characteristics of UC patients with colitis-associated cancer(CAC) to those without CAC. METHODS: Clinical data on UC patients who underwent abdominal surgery from 1980 to 2013 were collected from 11 medical institutions. Data were analyzed to compare the clinical features of patients with CAC and those of patients without ***: Among 415 UC patients, 383(92.2%) underwent total proctocolectomy, and of these, 342(89%) were subjected to ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. CAC was found in 47 patients(11.3%). Adenocarcinoma was found in 45 patients, and the others had either neuroendocrine carcinoma or lymphoma. Comparing the UC patients with and without CAC, the UC patients with CAC were characteristically older at the time of diagnosis, had longer disease duration, underwent frequent laparoscopic surgery, and were infrequently given preoperative steroid therapy(P < 0.001-0.035). During the 37 mo mean follow-up period, the 3-yearoverall survival rate was 82.2%.CONCLUSION: Most Korean UC patients experience early disease exacerbation or complications. Approximately 10% of UC patients had CAC, and UC patients with CAC had a later diagnosis, a longer disease duration, and less steroid treatment than UC patients without CAC.
