Chiral liquid crystals based on pillararene and supramolecular self-assembly-induced chirality amplification

Macrocyclic liquid crystals combine the unique property of liquid crystals and excellent supramolecular assembly ability of macrocyclic *** is a significant challenge to make rational use of the advantages of macrocyclic compounds to prepare new macrocyclic ***,a type of macrocycles with rigid pillar-shaped frameworks and easy-tofunctionalize property,are excellent building blocks to fabricate liquid crystal ***,the site-selective modification property of pillararene has been rarely exploited to tailor liquid crystal *** reported pillararene-based liquid crystal systems are almost prepared by per-functionalized ***,we report the regulation of chiral liquid crystal behaviors by different derivatization of *** and thermotropic liquid crystals with different chirality were obtained by self-assembly of pillararene with different numbers of cholesterol *** bridge between thermotropic liquid crystal and lyotropic liquid crystal based on pillararene is *** addition,the chirality of the mesogens can be amplified through supramolecular self-assembly driven by noncovalent *** on the different liquid crystal behaviors,the optical signal of the pillararene-based chiral liquid crystals was used to fabricate an information encryption *** work provides a simple strategy to regulate liquid crystal behaviors via pillararene-based mesogens and realizes information encryption through the combination of different types of liquid crystals.

Advanced nanoparticles in osteoarthritis treatment

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent degenerative joint disorder, affecting hundreds of millions of people globally. Current clinical approaches are confined to providing only symptomatic relief. Research over the past two decades has established that OA is not merely a process of wear and tear of the articular cartilage but involves abnormal remodelling of all joint tissues. Although many new mechanisms of disease have been identified in the past several decades, the efficient and sustainable delivery of drugs targeting these mechanisms in joint tissues remains a major challenge. Nanoparticles recently emerged as favoured delivery vehicles in OA treatment, offering extended drug retention, enhanced drug targeting, and improved drug stability and solubility. In this review, we consider OA as a disease affecting the entire joint and initially explore the pathophysiology of OA across multiple joint tissues, including the articular cartilage, synovium, fat pad, bone, and meniscus. We then classify nanoparticles based on their composition and structure, such as lipids, polymers, inorganic materials, peptides/proteins, and extracellular vesicles. We summarise the recent advances in their use for treatment and diagnosis of OA. Finally, we discuss the current challenges and future directions in this field. In conclusion, nanoparticle-based nanosystems are promising carriers that advance OA treatment and diagnosis. © 2024, Chinese Medical Multimedia Press Co Ltd. All rights reserved.

Bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides（TMDs） balance the high mobility of single layers with the high state density of multilayers and therefore have promising application prospects in high-performance electronics. However, the layer-controlled growth of 2D materials is still confronted with challenges such as poor repeatability between different labs and a limited understanding of the growth mechanism at the atomic scale. Herein, we report a new carbon-assisted chemical vapor deposition process that can realize the growth of WS2sheets with high yield, precise thickness controllability, and repeatability. We show that carbon can act as a reducing agent and catalyst that preferentially reacts with the WO3precursor to form intermediate WO3-xproducts with low-valence state W. The resulting oxycarbide gas has a low surface adsorption energy when deposited on the surface of as-grown WS2, which provides nucleation sites for the subsequent layer of WS2growth and leads to the vertical growth of WS2sheets. The growth mechanism is thoroughly investigated. Electrical transport measurements show that the produced bilayer WS2possesses a high carrier mobility(up to 58 cm2·V-1·s-1) and small subthreshold swing（estimated to be 148 mV/decade）,which are among the best reported results for TMDs produced using CVD.

Pedestrian trajectory prediction method based on the Social-LSTM model for vehicle collision

Techniques for predicting the trajectory of vulnerable road users are important to the development of perception systems for autonomous vehicles to avoid *** most effective trajectory prediction methods,such as Social-LSTM,are often used to predict pedestrian trajectories in normal passage ***,they can produce unsatisfactory prediction results and data redundancy,as well as difficulties in predicting trajectories using pixel-based coordinate systems in collision avoidance *** is also a lack of validations using real vehicle-to-pedestrian *** address these issues,some insightful approaches to improve the trajectory prediction scheme of Social-LSTM were proposed,such methods included transforming pedestrian trajectory coordinates and converting image coordinates to world *** YOLOv5 detection model was introduced to reduce target loss and improve prediction *** DeepSORT algorithm was employed to reduce the number of target transformations in the tracking *** Perspective Transformation(IPT)and Direct Linear Transformation(DLT)theories were combined to transform the coordinates to world coordinates,identifying the collision location where the accident could *** performance of the proposed method was validated by training tests using MS COCO(Microsoft Common Objects in Context)and ETH/UCY *** results showed that the target detection accuracy was more than 90%and the prediction loss tends to decrease with increasing training steps,with the final loss value less than 1%.The reliability and effectiveness of the improved method were demonstrated by benchmarking system performance to two video recordings of real pedestrian accidents with different lighting conditions.

A nonradical oxidation process initiated by Ti-peroxo complex showed high specificity toward the degradation of tetracycline antibiotics

Nonradical oxidation has received wide attention in advanced oxidation processes for environmental *** the relationship between material characteristics and their ability to initiate nonradical oxidation processes is the key to better material design and ***,a novel titanium-based metal-organic framework MIL-125-Ti/H_(2)O_(2) system was established to show a highly selective degradation efficacy toward tetracycline ***-125-Ti with the abundance of TiO6 octahedra units was found to effectively activate H_(2)O_(2) under dark conditions by forming an oxidative Ti-peroxo *** presence of the Ti-peroxo complex,confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometer,fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy characterizations,showed superior degradation(>95%removal rate)of oxytetracycline hydrochloride(OTC),doxycycline hydrochloride,chlortetracycline hydrochloride,and *** functional theory calculations were performed to assist the elucidation on the mechanism of H_(2)O_(2) activation and antibiotics *** MIL-125-Ti/H_(2)O_(2) system was highly resistant to halogens and background organics,and could well maintain its original catalytic activity in actual water *** retained the ability to degrade 75%of OTC within ten test *** study provides new insight into the nonradical oxidation process initiated by the unique Ti-peroxo complex of Ti-based MOF.

Dielectric Constant Calculation of Poly(vinylidene fluoride)Based on Finite Field and Density Functional Theory

In this study,we proposed a novel method that integrates density functional theory(DFT)with the finite field method to accurately estimate the polarizability and dielectric constant of *** approach effectively accounts for the influence of electronic and geometric conformation changed on the dielectric *** validated our method using polyethylene(PE)and polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)as benchmark materials,and found that it reliably predicted their dielectric ***,we explored the impact of conformation variations in poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)on its dielectric constant and *** resulting dielectric constants ofα-andγ-PVDF(3.0)showed excellent agreement with crystalline PVDF in *** findings illuminate the relationship between PVDF’s structural properties and its electrical behavior,offering valuable insights for material design and applications.

Adhesion property of AlCrNbSiTi high-entropy alloy coating on zirconium:experimental and theoretical studies

Experimental scratch tests and first-principles calculations were used to investigate the adhesion property of AlCrNbSiTi high-entropy alloy(HEA)coatings on zirconium *** HEA and Cr coatings were deposited on Zr alloy substrates using multi-arc ion plating technology,and scratch tests were subsequently conducted to estimate the adhesion property of the *** results indicated that Cr coatings had better adhesion strength than HEA coatings,and the HEA coatings showed *** special quasi-random structure approach was used to build HEA models,and Cr/Zr and HEA/Zr interface models were employed to investigate the cohesion between the coatings and Zr substrate using first-principles *** calculated interface energies showed that the cohesion between the Cr coating and the Zr substrate was stronger than that of the HEA coating with *** contrary to Al or Si in the HEA coating,Cr,Nb,and Ti atoms binded strongly with Zr *** on the calculated elastic constants,it was found that low Cr and high Al content decreased the mechanical performances of HEA ***,this study demonstrated the utilization of a combined approach involving first-principles calculations and experimental studies for future HEA coating development.
