Wintertime suspended sediment simulation in the Huanghai and East China Seas

A simulation of suspended sediment movement relating to tidal and wave forcing during a winter monsoon in November 1983 in the Huanghai and East China Seas continental shelf is attempted by using the model describing the cohesive/non-cohesive sediment resus-pension generated by interactions between currents and *** simulation showed that sediment concentration was increased by resuspension at shallow depths during the strong storm conditions due to high bottom stress interacted between currents and waves. This result is in general agreement with observations in horizontal distribution of suspended sediment distribution. At three current meter mooring positions off the southern Shandong Peninsula resuspension occurred only at a depth of 22 m,nearest coastal position and at deeper parts at depths of 51 and 80 m wave-current interaction effects were not significant. It has shown that the present model simulation demonstrated the capability of reproduction of suspended sediment movement under wintertime extreme event reasonably well.

This study aimed to utilize micro-computed tomography （micro-CT） analysis to compare new bone formation in rat calvarial defects using chitosan/fibroin-hydroxyapatite （CFB-HAP） or collagen （Bio-Gide） membranes. Fifty-four （54） rats were studied. A circular bony defect （8 mm diameter） was formed in the centre of the calvaria using a trephine bur. The CFB-HAP membrane was prepared by thermally induced phase separation. In the experimental group （n= 18）, the CFB-HAP membrane was used to cover the bony defect, and in the control group （n= 18）, a resorbable collagen membrane （Bio-Gide） was used. In the negative control group （n= 18）, no membrane was used. In each group, six animals were euthanized at 2, 4 and 8 weeks after surgery. The specimens were then analysed using micro-CT. There were significant differences in bone volume （BV） and bone mineral density （BMD）（P〈O.05） between the negative control group and the membrane groups. However, there were no significant differences between the CFB-HAP group and the collagen group. We concluded that the CFB-HAP membrane has significant potential as a guided bone regeneration （GBR） membrane.

This article describes a local error estimator for Glimm＇s scheme for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws and uses it to replace the usual random choice in Glimm＇s scheme by an optimal choice. As a by-product of the local error estimator, the procedure provides a global error estimator that is shown numerically to be a very accurate estimate of the error in L1 （R） for all times. Although there is partial mathematical evidence for the error estimator proposed, at this stage the error estimator must be considered ad- hoc. Nonetheless, the error estimator is simple to compute, relatively inexpensive, without adjustable parameters and at least as accurate as other existing error estimators. Numerical experiments in 1-D for Burgers＇ equation and for Euler＇s system are performed to measure the asymptotic accuracy of the resulting scheme and of the error estimator.

In this paper, the modified slip/fracture activation model has been used in order to understand the mechanism of ductile-brittle transition on the R-plane of sapphire during ultra-precision machining by reflecting direction of resultant force. Anisotropic characteristics of crack morphology and ductility of machining depending on cutting direction were explained in detail with modified fracture cleavage and plastic deformation parameters. Through the analysis, it was concluded that crack morphologies were mainly determined by the interaction of multiple fracture systems activated while, critical depth of cut was determined by the dominant plastic deformation parameter. In addition to this, by using proportionality relationship between magnitude of resultant force and depth of cut in the ductile region, an empirical model for critical depth of cut was developed.

Bimetallic Fe/Ni-based metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)with different Fe/Ni ratios were coated on TiO_(2)nanorods(NRs),and the performances of the heterojunction photoanodes in photoelectrochemical water splitting were *** bandgaps and band positions of the MOFs could be modulated by changing the ratio of the Fe and Ni *** ideal band alignment was achieved between the TiO_(2)NRs and bimetallic MOFs with an optimum ratio of[Fe]/[Ni]=0.25/0.75,which allowed efficient light absorption and charge *** coating of NH_(2)-MIL(Fe)-88 layer on the TiO_(2)NRs decreased the photocurrent density by 33%.In comparison,TiO_(2)/NH_(2)-MIL(Ni)-88 showed a modest improvement in photocurrent density(0.85 mA·cm^(−2)at 1.23 V vs.a reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE)).When bimetallic NH_(2)-MIL(Fe_(0.25)Ni_(0.75))-88 was coated on the TiO_(2)NRs,the photocurrent density reached 1.56 mA·cm^(−2),which was an efficiency enhancement of 3.2 *** mechanism underlying high photoelectrochemical performance was investigated.

Advancements in diagnostic systems for metastatic cancer over the last few decades have played a significant role in providing patients with effective treatment by evaluating the characteristics of cancer *** the progress made in cancer prognosis,we still rely on the visual analysis of tissues or cells from histopathologists,where the subjectivity of traditional manual interpretation *** paper presents the development of a dual diagnosis and treatment tool using an in vitro acoustic tweezers platform with a 50MHz ultrasonic transducer for label-free trapping and bursting of human breast cancer *** cancer cell detection and classification,the mechanical properties of a single cancer cell were quantified by single-beam acoustic tweezers(SBAT),a noncontact assessment tool using a focused acoustic ***-mimicking phantoms and agarose hydrogel spheres(AHSs)served to standardize the biomechanical characteristics of the *** on the analytical comparison of deformability levels between the cells and the AHSs,the mechanical properties of the cells could be indirectly measured by interpolating the Young’s moduli of the *** a result,the calculated Young’s moduli,i.e.,1.527kPa for MDA-MB-231(highly invasive breast cancer cells),2.650kPa for MCF-7(weakly invasive breast cancer cells),and 2.772 kPa for SKBR-3(weakly invasive breast cancer cells),indicate that highly invasive cancer cells exhibited a lower Young’s moduli than weakly invasive cells,which indicates a higher deformability of highly invasive cancer cells,leading to a higher metastasis ***-cell treatment may also be carried out by bursting a highly invasive cell with high-intensity,focused ultrasound.

AIM:To evaluate long-term clinical course of BuddChiari syndrome(BCS) and predictive factors associated with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and ***:We analyzed 67 patients with BCS between June 1988 and May *** diagnosis of BCS was confirmed by hepatic venous outflow obstruction shown on abdominal ultrasound sonography,computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,or *** median follow-up period was 103 ± 156 [interquartile range(IQR)] ***:The median age of the patients was 47 ± 16(IQR) *** diagnosis,54 patients had cirrhosis,25(37.3%) Child-Pugh class A,23(34.3%) Child-Pugh class B,and six(9.0%) patients Child-Pugh class *** the follow-up period,HCC was developed in 17 patients,and the annual incidence of HCC in patients with BCS was 2.8%.Patients in HCC group(n = 17) had higher hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG) than those in non-HCC group(n = 50)(21 ± 12 mmHg vs 14 ± 7 mmHg,P = 0.019).The survival rate of BCS patients was 86.2% for 5 years,73.8% for 10 years,and 61.2% for 15 *** patients with BCS and HCC,survival was 79% for 5 years,43.1% for 10 years,and 21.5% for 15 ***:The incidence of HCC in patients with BCS was similar to that in patients with other etiologic cirrhosis in South *** HVPG is expected to provide additional information for predicting HCC development in BCS patients.
