Lithium–sulfur batteries are one of the attractive next-generation energy storage systems owing to theienvironmental friendliness,low cost,and high specific energy ***,the low electrical conductivity of sulfur,shuttling of soluble intermediate polysulfides between electrodes,and low capacitretention have hampered their commercial *** address these issues,we use a halloysitemodulated(H-M)separator in a lithium–sulfur battery to mitigate the shuttling *** H-M separator acts as a mutual Coulombic repulsion in lithium-sulfur batteries,thereby selectively permitting Lions and efficiently suppressing the transfer of undesired lithium polysulfides to the Li anode sideMoreover,the use of halloysite switches the surface of the separator from hydrophobic to hydrophilicconsequently improving the electrolyte wettability and adhesion between the separator and cathodeWhen sulfur-multi-walled carbon nanotube(S-MWCNT)composites are used as cathode active materialsa lithium–sulfur battery with an H-M separator exhibits first discharge and charge capacities of 1587 an1527 m Ah g-1,***,there is a consistent capacity retention up to 100 cyclesAccordingly,our approach demonstrates an economical and easily accessible strategy for commercialization of lithium–sulfur batteries.

The evaluation of therapeutic efficacy is necessary to predict the outcome of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(CRC). In these patients, there is a critical need for predictive chemosensitivity assays and biomarkers to optimize efficacy and minimize toxicity. The introduction of targeted agents has improved the progression-free survival and overall survival of patients with metastatic disease. However, approximately 50% of patients do not show a positive response to chemotherapy and the selection of patients likely to respond to a specific regimen remains challenging. Cell culturebased chemosensitivity tests use autologous viable tumor cells to evaluate susceptibility to specific agents in vitro and predict their direct effects. Adenosine triphosphate-based assays and methyl thiazolyl-diphenyltetrazolium bromide-based assays are used widely as sensitivity tests because of their short assay period, technical simplicity, and the requirement of small amount of specimen. Among protein- and gene-based chemosensitivity assays, assessment of KRAS mutation status predicts the response to epidermal growth factor receptor-targeted therapy in CRC patients. The validation of predictive and prognostic markers enables the selection of therapeutic regimens with optimal efficacy and minimal toxicity for each patient, which has been termed personalized treatment. This review summarizes currently available predictive and prognostic chemosensitivity tests for metastatic CRC.

Analysis of the Sloshing Flows of a LNG Cargo Tank

The sloshing flows in a LNG cargo tank model （1/50 scale） of a ship are measured by an embedded pano- ramicPIV system. The measurement system consists of a Nd-Yag laser（120mJ, 15Hz）, two cameras（lk x lk） and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model, in which swaying motions are made by a 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the swaying frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50ram away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar to each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.

Combination of Korean Red Ginseng Extract and Hydrogen-Rich Water Improves Spermatogenesis and Sperm Motility in Male Mice

Objective: To investigate the effect of hydrogen-rich Korean Red Ginseng(KRG) water(HRGW) mixture on the spermatogenesis and sperm motility of mice of different ages. Methods: Eighty young(3 month-old) and aged(12 month-old) male mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups(n=10 per group) including control group, hydrogen-rich water(HRW) group(10 m L/kg daily), KRG group(50 mg/kg daily) and HRGW group(10 m L/kg HRW and 50 mg/kg KRG daily) by an oral zoned needle for 4 weeks. Sperm count and motility were measured using sperm suspension released from cauda epididymis. Serum follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH), testosterone, and reactive oxygen species(ROS) in serum have also been estimated. Tubular changes were examined through histological hematoxylin and eosin staining. Expression of antioxidation(PPx3, PPx4, GSTm5 and GPx4), spermatogenesis(inhibin-α, neptin-2 and CREM), antiaging(SIRT1 and SIRT2), and angiogenesis [visfatin and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)] related genes were examined through realtime polymerase chain reaction. Results: HRW and KRG treatment stimulated spermatogenesis followed by increasing sperm production and sperm motility(P<0.05). These effects were strengthened synergistically by a HRGW mixture(P<0.05 or P<0.01). HRGW greatly increased the expressions of antioxidation, antiaging, spermatogenesis related genes and VEGF especially in aged mice(P<0.05). Serum testosterone and FSH levels also increased, while serum ROS level decreased(all P<0.05). Conclusion: HRGW increases sperm production and motility by enhancing antioxidation and stimulating spermatogenesis and sex hormone production, particularly in aged mice.

Optimal biliary drainage for inoperable Klatskin's tumor based on Bismuth type

AIM： To investigate differences in the effects of biliary drainage procedures in patients with inoperable Klatskin＇s tumor based on Bismuth type, considering endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage （ERBD）, external percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage （EPTBD） and internal biliary stenting via the PTBD tract （IPTBD）. METHODS： The initial success rate, cumulative patency rate, and complication rate were compared retrospectively, according to the Bismuth type and ERBD, EPTBD, and IPTBD. Patency was defined as the duration for adequate initial bile drainage or to the point of the patient＇s death associated with inadequate drainage. RESULTS： One hundred thirty-four patients （93 men, 41 women; 21 Bismuth type Ⅱ, 47Ⅲ, 66 Ⅳ; 34 ERBD, 66 EPTBD, 34 IPTBD） were recruited. There were no differences in demographics among the groups. Adequate initial relief of jaundice was achieved in 91% of patients without a significant difference in the results among different procedures or Bismuth types. The cumulative patency rates for ERBD and IPTBD were better than those for EPTBD with Bismuth type Ⅲ. IPTBD provided an excellent response for Bismuth type IV. However, there was no difference in the patency rate among drainage procedures for Bismuth type Ⅱ. Procedure-related cholangitis occurred less frequently with EPTBD than with ERBD and IPTBD. CONCLUSION： ERBD is recommended as the firstline drainage procedure for the palliation of jaundice in patients with inoperable Klatskin＇s tumor of Bismuth type Ⅱ or Ⅲ, but IPTBD is the best option for Bismuth type Ⅳ.

Development of a variable rate applicator for uniform fertilizer spreading

Environmental impact and economic concerns have driven a variable rate technology(VRT).Spinner spreaders were mainly used for granular fertilizer application since they are simple in design,inexpensive,and can cover large ***,the spreader was not adequate for VRT because uniformity changes drastically while varying application ***,the purpose of this study was to develop a variable rate applicator with uniform spreading patterns.A commercial spreader was modified with a controller and electric actuators for controlling fertilizer discharge directions and *** was established to determine the optimum discharge direction according to the fertilizer application *** uniformity of spreading patterns in accordance with the spread amount per set unit area was evaluated by the statistical coefficient of variation(CV)lower than 15%is assumed to prevent damage to the *** results showed that CVs were 8%,9%,and 8%,respectively,for a tractor in race track mode(adjacent passes in same direction of travel)at 200 kg/hm^(2),300 kg/hm^(2),and 400 kg/hm^(2).This indicates that the fertilizer was spread uniformly,while the coefficient of variation was 12%at 200 kg/hm^(2) in back and forth mode(adjacent passes in the opposite direction of travel).Overall,the results suggest that the race track mode is suitable for operation of a tractor to ensure uniform spreading of fertilizer when applying at variable *** future goal is to establish a system for automatic variable rate application according to location in connection with soil analysis and geographic information systems.

Non-Jumping Take off Performance in Beetle Flight （Rhinoceros Beetle Trypoxylus dichotomus）

In recent decades, the take-off mechanisms of flying animals have received much attention in insect flight initiation. Most of previous works have focused on the jumping mechanism, which is the most common take-off mechanism found in flying animals. Here, we presented that the rhinoceros beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus, takes offwithout jumping. In this study, we used 3-Dimensional （3D） high-speed video techniques to quantitatively analyze the wings and body kinematics during the initiation periods of flight. The details of the flapping angle, angle of attack of the wings and the roll, pitch and yaw angles of the body were investigated to understand the mechanism of take-off in T. dichotomus. The beetle took off gradually with a small velocity and small acceleration. The body kinematic analyses showed that the beetle exhibited stable take-off. To generate high lift force, the beetle modulated its hind wing to control the angle of attack; the angle of attack was large during the upstroke and small during the downstroke. The legs of beetle did not contract and strongly release like other insects. The hind wing could be con- sidered as a main source of lift for heavy beetle.

Aerodynamic characteristics of the beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus, which has a pair of elytra （forewings） and flexible hind wings, are investigated. Visualization experiments were conducted for various flight conditions of a beetle, Trypoxylus di- chotomus： free, tethered, hovering, forward and climbing flights. Leading edge, trailing edge and tip vortices on both wings were observed clearly. The leading edge vortex was stable and remained on the top surface of the elytron for a wide interval during the downstroke of free forward flight. Hence, the elytron may have a considerable role in lift force generation of the beetle. In addition, we reveal a suction phenomenon between the gaps of the hind wing and the elytron in upstroke that may improve the positive lift force on the hind wing. We also found the reverse clap-fling mechanism of the T. dichotomus beetle in hovering flight. The hind wings touch together at the beginning of the upstroke. The vortex generation, shedding and interaction give a better understanding of the detailed aerodynamic mechanism of beetle flight.

Mimicking a Superhydrophobic Insect Wing by Argon and Oxygen Ion Beam Treatment on Polytetrafluoroethylene Film

Biological tiny structures have been observed on many kinds of surfaces such as lotus leaves and insect wings,which enhance the hydrophobicity of the natural surfaces and play a role of *** presented the fabrication technology of a superhydrophobic surface using high energy ion *** insect wings that mimic the morphology and the superhydrophobocity of cicada's wings were successfully fabricated using argon and oxygen ion beam treatment on a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)*** wing structures were supported by carbon/epoxy fibers as artificial flexible veins that were bonded through an autoclave *** morphology of the fabricated surface bears a strong resemblance to the wing surface of a cicada,with contact angles greater than 160°,which could be sustained for more than two months.
