Early detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) can be significantly enhanced through the use of flexible wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) sensors, potentially reducing CVD-related mortality. This paper introduces an ECG-on-Chip (EoC) solution tailored for flexible ECG sensors, incorporating novel features to address common challenges in wearable ECG technology. The EoC integrates a chopper-stabilized capacitively-coupled instrumentation amplifier (CS-CCIA),ensuring a high common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) and low noise performance. Performance is further boosted via a positive feedback loop (PFL) and a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with shared on-chip calibration logic, which enhances input impedance and minimizes gain variability to ensure consistent algorithm performance. Additionally, a secondary chopping technique is employed to further reduce noise, achieving an input-referred noise level of 454 nVrms. The embedded algorithm within the EoC is designed to extract clinically meaningful features, facilitating robust real-time arrhythmia analysis. Fabricated using a 0.18μm CMOS process, the EoC consumes 14.9μW with a supply voltage of 1.2 V. The algorithm’s efficacy has been validated over 0.4 million heartbeats, demonstrating a sensitivity of over 99.7%for R-peak detection and 98.3%for arrhythmia analysis. To demonstrate practical application, the EoC has been integrated with a commercial Bluetooth low energy (BLE)transceiver, forming a wireless arrhythmia monitoring sensor equipped with dry electrodes. This system consumes 292.04μW in arrhythmia-aware transmission mode, supporting 13 days of operation with a 30 mAh thin-film battery.

Application of Angular Momentum Theory to Constructing Basis Functions of Irreducible Representations of Icosahedral Group

A new method based on angular momentum theory was proposed to construct the basis functions of the irreducible representations(IRs) of point groups. The transformation coefficients, i. e., coefficients S, are the components of the eigenvectors of some Hermitian matrices, and can be made as real numbers for all pure rotation point groups. The general formula for coefficient S was deduced, and applied to constructing the basis functions of single-valued irreducible representations of icosahedral group from the spherical harmonics with angular momentum j≤7.

The effect of phase angle and wing spacing on tandem flapping wings

In a tandem wing configuration, the hindwing of- ten operates in the wake of the forewing and, hence, its per- formance is affected by the vortices shed by the forewing. Changes in the phase angle between the flapping motions of the fore and the hind wings, as well as the spacing between them, can affect the resulting vortex/wing and vortex/vortex interactions. This study uses 2D numerical simulations to in- vestigate how these changes affect the leading dege vortexes （LEV） generated by the hindwing and the resulting effect on the lift and thrust coefficients as well as the efficiencies. The tandem wing configuration was simulated using an incom- pressible Navier-Stokes solver at a chord-based Reynolds number of 5 000. A harmonic single frequency sinusoidal oscillation consisting of a combined pitch and plunge motion was used for the flapping wing kinematics at a Strouhal num- ber of 0.3. Four different spacings ranging from 0.1 chords to 1 chord were tested at three different phase angles, 0°, 90° and 180°. It was found that changes in the spacing and phase angle affected the timing of the interaction between the vor- tex shed from the forewing and the hindwing. Such an inter- action affects the LEV formation on the hindwing and results in changes in aerodynamic force production and efficiencies of the hindwing. It is also observed that changing the phase angle has a similar effect as changing the spacing. The re- suits further show that at different spacings the peak force generation occurs at different phase angles, as do the peak efficiencies.

Acid Phosphatase Activity May Affect the Tuber Swelling by Partially Regulating Sucrose-mediated Sugar Resorption in Potato

APase activity is involved in regulating many physiological and developmental events by affecting the resorption process. In this study, we investigate the role of APase activity in tuber development in potato. APase activities were mainly localized in cytoplasm, gaps among cells and stroma of amyloplasts of parenchyma cells at the stage of tuber swelling. AP1, encoding a putative APase, was also highly expressed in swelling tubers and a low level of expression was observed in elongated stolons and matured tubers. Inhibition of APase activity by applying Brefeldin A, an inhibitor of APase production and secretion, significantly suppressed the tuber swelling and moderately affected the stolon elongation and the tuberization frequency. During tuber development, sucrose serves as the main soluble sugar for long-distance transportation and resorption. Moreover, inhibition of APase activity by Brefeldin A markedly reduced the sucrose content in tubers and further decreased the starch accumulation, suggesting that the function of APase in regulating the tuber swelling might be at least partially mediated by the sugar resorption. Exogenous sucrose treatments further indicate the important role of sucrose-mediated sugar resorption in tuber swelling. These results suggest that the APase activity might affect the tuber swelling by partially regulating the sucrose-mediated sugar resorption.

Characterization of Zm26Sub5 and Its Potential Roles in Regulating Pollen Fertility of S-CMS in Maize

Mitochondrial orf355-orf77 and the nuclear fertility restorer locus Rf3/rf3 mutually control the fertility of male gametes in CMS-S in maize （Zea mays L.）. A fragment of gene Zm26Sub5 was identified through cDNA-AFLP from a set of Rf3/rf3 near-isogenic lines in a previous study. In the present study, real-time PCR analysis revealed that Zm26Sub5 expression levels were much higher in pollen of S-Mo17Rf3Rf3 than in pollen of S-Mo17rf3rf3, and also higher than in fresh leaves, mature leaves, and roots of both S-Mo17Rf3Rf3 and S-Mo17rf3rf3. In silico cloning of full-length cDNA was successfully implemented. Gene Zm26Sub5 was 1 451 bp in size, of which 1 329 bp encoded a protein with 443 amino acids. The structure of this gene was analyzed by comparing its full length cDNA to homologous genomic DNA sequence （GenBank accession： Ac209463.3）. Subsequent sequence analysis led to sub cellular localization of protein ZM26SUB5, and construction of a phylogenetic tree. In silico mapping indicated that Zm26Sub5 was located on chromosome 5 and closed to a reported starch-filled pollen ratio QTL. ZM26SUB5, therefore might have potential roles in repressing mitochondrial PCD which is associated with sterile activity in pollen in S-type cytoplasm.

A robust QRS detection and accurate R-peak identification algorithm for wearable ECG sensors

This paper presents a robust QRS detection algorithm that is capable of detecting QRS complexes as well as accurately identifying R-peaks. The proposed bilateral threshold scheme combined with QRS watchdog greatly improves the detection accuracy and robustness, resulting in consistent detection performance on 9 available ECG databases. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm achieves good results on the datasets from both QTDB healthy database and MITDB arrhythmia database, i.e. the sensitivity of99.99% and 99.88%, the precision of 99.98% and 99.88%, and the detection error rate of 0.04% and 0.31%,respectively. Furthermore, it also outperforms many existing algorithms on six other ECG databases, such as NSTDB, TWADB, STDB, SVDB, AFTDB, and FANTASIADB.

An interface shear damage model of chromium coating/steel substrate under thermal erosion load

The Cr-plated coating inside a gun barrel can effectively improve the barrel’s erosion resistance and thus increase the service ***,due to the cyclic thermal load caused by high-temperature gunpowder,micro-element damage tends to occur within the Cr coating/steel substrate interface,leading to a gradual deterioration in macro-mechanical properties for the material in the related *** order to mimic this cyclic thermal load and,thereby,study the thermal erosion behavior of the Cr coating on the barrel’s inner wall,a laser emitter is utilized in the current *** the help of in-situ tensile test and finite element simulation results,a shear stress distribution law of the Cr coating/steel substrate and a change law of the interface ultimate shear strength are *** have shown that the Cr coating/steel substrate interface’s ultimate shear strength has a significant weakening effect due to increasing *** this study,the interfacial ultimate shear strength decreases from 2.57 GPa(no erosion)to 1.02 GPa(laser power is 160 W).The data from this experiment is employed to establish a Cr coating/steel substrate interface shear damage *** this model is used to predict the flaking process of Cr coating by finite element *** simulation results show that the increase of coating crack spacing and coating thickness will increase the service life of gun barrel.

Pretreatment of metallurgical sewage via vacuum distillation driven by low-temperature exhausted gas from steel plants

The metallurgical sewage has very complex component and a significant environmental perniciousness and needs high treatment costs. In addition, too much low-temperature waste heat is emitted owing to the lack of suitable users. Considering these concerns, a low-temperature-driven pretreatment method via vacuum distillation was proposed to treat the sewage from the metallurgical production. It uses the sensible heat carried by low-temperature exhausted gases to drive the distillation of sewage. The distilled water can be reused into the process as new water supply, while the enriched wastewater is discharged into the sewage treatment center for subsequent treatment. Converter dust removal sewage was chosen to perform an experimental observation. The variations of chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, suspended solids, electrical conductivity, and pH of the condensate under different vacuum degrees and evaporation rates were mainly investigated. It can be found that the quality of the condensate gets better under certain conditions, which validates the feasibility of the proposed approach. Furthermore, by comprehensively analyzing the water quality indices and their influencing factors, the optimal vacuum degree was suggested to be controlled between 0.07 and 0.09 MPa, and the best evaporation rate was between 40 and 60%.

Non-enzymatic Glucose Biosensor Based on Cu/SWNTs Composite Film Fabricated by One-step Electrodeposition

Based on the adsorption of copper ions on single-walled carbon nanotubes（SWNTs） in electrolyte, Cu/SWNTs nanocomposite film was initially prepared on indium-doped tin oxide（ITO） substrate by one-step electrodeposition. This method may provide a versatile and facile pathway to fabricate other SWNTs-supported metal composite films. Electrochemical experiments revealed that the obtained Cu/SWNTs/ITO electrode offered an excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of glucose and could be applied to the construction of non-enzymatic glucose biosensor. The linear range of the sensor was 1.0×10–6 to 6.0×10–4 mol/L and the response time was within 2 s. Particularly, its sensitivity reached as high as 1434.67 μA？L？mmol–1？cm–2, which was superior to any other non-enzymatic glucose biosensor based on copper-carbon nanotubes electrode reported previously.
